About the record > sales... I have to present you this past news from my > webpage... THEY SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES! I'm afraid your figures are not quite correct. Firstly gold and platinum awards are generally based on number of albums shipped to shops and not on actual sales. This does cause confusion when people start quoting these sorts of figures. Pieces Of You having gone 11-times platinum in the US would probably have sold around 8 to 9 million copies. > *Okay, so if my maths are right... it would be 1 (for > Australia), plus 1 (for New Zealand), plus 1/2 (for > Spain), plus 1/2 (for Holland), plus 1/2 (for Japan), > plus 1/2 (for Indonesia), plus 1/2 (for The > Phillipines) and plus 1/2 (for Signapore). That would > be 5 million copies... around March 29... pretty good. > So sorry Chris you are wrong, the figures speak for > themselves* Only the US awards platinum discs after sales of 1 million. For other countries the figure is far smaller. An album achieves platinum status in Australia when it sells 70,000 albums, and it's even less in New Zealand. Holland is about 50,000 and Japan around 100,000 for a gold disc, I'm unsure about the other countries, but they are tiny music markets. I believe Spirit has gone platinum in Japan now, and double platinum in Australia, but even so the total international sales are still not going to be much above 1 million. > 4. Jewel blows Britain away A bit of an exaggeration from Atlantic Records headline writer. > By Name and by Nature > > Jewel > > Royal Albert Hall, London > > by Nigel Williamson > > *this speaks for itself... Jewel made an impact in > Britain* I don't disagree that Jewel has made some impact in Britain, but only for very few people. By the way Nigel Williamson is probably one of Jewel's biggest fans amongst the UK press. He awarded Spirit 5 stars when it was released. But he was the only journalist (as far as I know) to do so. > > Also her two previous releases Pieces Of You (1995) > and Spirit (1998) have sold over 19 million copies > combined! I'd dispute this figure, possibly somebody confusing shipped versus sold cds and confusing the figures for platinum in international markets. > Okay, take care angels, and remeber it's not all about > record sales... :) I agree, but it would be nice to hear Jewel on the radio occasionally. She was also interviewed for about 10 seconds talking about her new book and some stories in it regarding Ty Murray. She looked and sang beautiful as always. Also, I got the new Self magazine with Jewel on the cover, and she again looks stunning. So I guess I am goin to do it. But I do not have the technology to make this available on a CD, so we are going to have to settle for a tape. (Unless someone can make some mp3s and put them on a cd) So if you have any of the following songs, please email me privately and we will work something out. Also, if you think I am leaving out a new song that should be included, please let me know: Serve the Ego Until the Fall Shadows Play Does Anybody Believe in Love(from one of her recent acoustic concerts) Rosie and Mick Stephenville (I have this one) Break Me(I have this one) Violet Eyes(I have this one) something vegabond? I know there are a few others... Please email me as soon as you can if you have any of these songs (perferably good quality). If you have it on video tape, see if you can record it onto an audio tape. Also, if anyone wants to volunteer to make some mp3s, I'm sure everyone would be most appreciative. I'd like to get this finished soon so onlyoffer to help if you are really planning on following through with it. Thanks. Jodi THe rare, new jewel mining angel PS I will probably need another volunteer to make JCards and suggestions for a title. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #434 ***************************
