Thanks for asking Jake! :-) As the EveryDay Angels Foundation is focused on action and personal involvement rather than fundraising, we do not actively seek monetary donations. However, we do have operational costs, such as annual California and federal filing fees, phone bills and volunteer activity expenses. So far, these costs have been covered by donations from generous individuals and groups, including Higher Ground for Humanity. If anyone would like to make a tax deductible monetary contribution, it would certainly be appreciated, and with our third fiscal year having come to a close last week, quite timely as well. Donations can be made payable to "The EveryDay Angels Foundation" and sent to: The EveryDay Angels Foundation PO Box 123 East Petersburg, PA 17520 For more information email us at EDAFinfo@aol.com. They did the theme song to the first series of "Zoe, Duncan, Jack And Jane". I recently got their album - and it's a great CD! I think they deserve to do better. I also think that Letters To Cleo are good - they did the music for 10 Things I hate About You, didn't they? - -- MB _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. You know, I saw (and heard of) Rusted Root for the first time in August of last year. They opened at Jewel's concert (at Pine Knob) and I'll tell you, it was one of the best bands I've ever heard. I really liked their style. I don't remember much of their show because I was so excited and jumpy waiting for Jewel, but what I do remember of it was good. It was kind a funny because not many of the people were there to see Jewel. Most of them went to see Rusted Root. We were talking to these people in front of us and they were like "who's Jewel?" That's when we realized almost everyone was there for Rusted Root. Well, I'm done babling. It was just story I thought was kind of interesting. There is another band that I really like called Dave Arthur and the Round Table Band that are also big band style and have some great originals- I think they are from Oklahoma. Although Robbie Williams has extreme popularity in Europe, I think he is totally underappreciated in the US-- there are a lot of people who don't know who he is, and I think he is really talented-- not to mention sexy : ) - -- chrissy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 03 Nov 2000 10:59:22 -0500 From: Shannon Mackie Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: underrated artists As for underrated artists, check out squirrel nut zippers, cibo matto, liz phair, and I agree with the person that said Fiona Apple. I assume you didnt know her last name cause you didnt write it in. yeah, my friend saw her recently in an old shut down theater. She said it rocked. I appreciate non-commercial bands all the way even tho im not a fan of Ani's style. Dar Williams is someone I've seen. I think she's sooooo cool. It's very Europop and mainstream, not even dance music, it's just kinda poetic. I like Ayumi Hamasaki and Faye Wong (aka Wong Fei aka Shirley Wong). The former is Japanese, the latter is Chinese. They both have sung themes for video games and stuff. They're very poppy and have wonderful voices. I guess I like Sixpence None the Richer, and Letters to Cleo. After their movie themes, nothing really happened. Like, yuck. And what else... I dunno. I'll probly think of a lot right after I send this stupid message. ===== ~*Liz*~ the Misplaced Angel HARMLESS & SHAMELESS PLUGS (if you can, check 'em out!) OK I have just had the wildest night!!....The Poltz Concert here was soo awesome! I was @ a very small venue here In Baton Rouge and I Had planned to go with My Mom & her Girlfriend, so we get there around 9:30 and Steve is gonna start @ 10:45 well were sitting there in the booth and about 20 minutes rolls by and i look behind me and Steve is walking in the door with a couple of his friends and i look toward him and my being kinda starstruck gives him a thumbs up and i say "hi Steve" and he mutters a hey back to me, well he sits there with his friends awhile as i overhear him say "I like this place, that guy over there even knew my name!" i was like Kewl! at least he did see me, well about another 10 minutes goes by and i get up to go to the bathroom and as i walk in Steve is walking out, he stops me and says "i wouldn't go in there its smells wore that a chevron station!, I almost threw up" i was like really?...and so i go and come back out and i was like .. Steve you were right, so he says can i sit at yall's booth with you ?. and i was like sure!..so were sitting at the both and the lady that was on before him came was singing and we introduced ourselves to him and we made small talk and told him about telling all of you about the show and he was like "give me a hug" so i gave him like a half hug and he was like "no i mean a real hug so like he grabbed me and gave me a big OLE bear hug i was like OK?!?!?" so anyway he tells us some nasty humorous stories about himself and i was basically going crazy cause he is just talking to us like he knew us forever, so he leaves for a bit to get another DRink...(LOL) it was Guinness and jamison whiskey ALL night for Steve, so anyways he ask me how my Mom and girlfriend know each other and i just bursted out "they're Lesbians" and he was like Kewl LESBIAN POWER! and bought my Mom and her girlfriend a round of drinks so anyways he is getting really fidgety and he really is ready to play so he sings my poster "TO Wesley, Thanx fer loanin me yur muther 2nite, luv Steve Poltz, PS merry XMas" and he writes my name down on his hand in sharpie so he will remember to put me on the guest list tomorrow night at the Burns Concert , hopefully he remembers out of his Drunken stuper! :) Anyway he talked with us some more and managed to hug me a couple more times and he takes the stage, which is like 3 feet away from us so anyways..heres his set list...by he way he sounded great!: 1. unknown .. i forgot to start writing them down at the beginning! 2. ABCD song 3. Good Morning, "waking up with you" 4.YWMFM (followed by the story of how the title of his CD came about AKA the David Cassidy Story) 5. Hitch hiker Joe 6. ?? some song he is learning and practicing so he can sing to His Mom Winnie @ thanksgiving, I forgot the name of it. 7. I'm Gonna water you everyday, and he added my name into the verses, it was funny ! 8. Impala ( which he dedicated to my Mom the cool lesbian!) 9. Waterfalls-by this time he was sooo drunk he mentioned everyone's heads floating about the room & he couldn't coherently sing the whole rap @ the end of it so he made up his own! 10. Starwars Song he sang a couple impromptu "made up songs" in between and he also sang the songs that are on the soundtracks to Notting Hill & Jack Frost, but i don't remember in which order he sang them, anyway, after he got of stage I told him by and again he hugged me!..he is a huggin kinda guy (exp. when he is drunk) So I had a GREAT night tonight, and im excited about tomorrow night, I don't think this was the booze talking cause he like looked at me straight in the face and told me that if I wanted to I could sit next to the stage & sell the rugburns Merch...so hopefully everything works out tomorrow night!!! Night everyone its 2 am and Steve is still out partying yet I have to go to work early tomorrow morning...bummer but I just wanted to pass the good vibes to everyone! Luv ya's, Wesllow ~the Redstick Indigo Angel~ PS Steve actually knew that in Indian Redstick means baton Rouge.kewl! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Nov 2000 07:20:57 EST From: Sean1781@aol.com Subject: [EDA] NJC: Underrated Bands Hey Angels, Here are some more bands that have to be mentioned. Not all of them are underrated, but oh well. The Clash - Great band."London Calling" has to be one of the greatest albums of all time. The whole record, double record actually, from front to back is just awesome. And "Super Black Market Clash" for some of their rarer tunes and dubs.(dub is an old reggae term. It's basically just a tripped out remix of a song) The Stooges - This was Iggy Pops band before he went solo. They had 2 albums."The Stooges" and "Funhouse".Then they got a new guitarist and were called Iggy and The Stooges and released "Raw Power".Funhouse is an amazing album.Way ahead of it's time.Same with Raw Power.Though the mixes on Raw Power are pretty bad so the songs sound kind of odd.The record label wouldn't release it unless David Bowie (a friend of Iggys) mixed it.Bowie is a great musician but for some reason he can't mix for shit.Funhouse is probably my favorite of the three. Oh yeah...Iggys real name is James Jewel Osterberg. :-) Sonic Youth - Amazing band.Incredible musicians. They've been around since 1982, 83' and have a ton of albums.I'd say "Goo" is probably my favorite.Their guitar work is mind boggling.Nirvana toured with them for a while. They were one of Kurt Cobains favorite bands. Nirvana - Just the bomb.Every album genius.Incesticide and In Utero are probably my favorites. They also have a million unreleased songs.I used to collect imports and bootlegs of them back in the day for the rare stuff. But now you can find most of it on Napster. Oh GOD!!...I said it didn't I !!? lol. His voice still blows my mind.Noone could ever let out a wail like Kurt. His scream could knock down a wall. Wow, I'm going on a mission here. Sorry, I'm almost done. :-) Bob Marley and The Wailers - Great songwriters.Great band. and I'm not talking about that new shit with rap artists remixing the songs. That's a disgrace. I'm talking about real roots reggae...Wailers style.Alot of other reggae bands are great too, but don't get much recognition.Toots and The Maytals, Dennis Brown (his "Visions" album is amazing), Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Lee Perry and The Upsetters (probably the greatest dub tunes ever), Augustus Pablo, Burning Spear. Led Zeppelin - No household should be without them.Probably the greatest band of all time.(aside from Jewel, but you can't really compare the two). Every song is a masterpiece.and every member of the band is the best at what they do.Simply incredible.I don't think they're human actually.Aliens sent them here to mess with us. lol. Pink Floyd - Amazing. Every album is a work of art.If you don't own them, go out and buy every album you can find.It needs to be done.Same with Zeppelin actually. Jimi Hendrix - The master.(well, Jewel is the master... I guess he's the master jr.) If you don't have any I'd buy the compilation "The Ultimate Experience".All Along The Watchtower, Hey Joe, Voodoo Child, Little Wing, Stone Free, Red House, Gypsy Eyes.... awesome. Dave Mathews - I just recently bought the Live At Luther College with Tim Reynolds. Excellent album. Radiohead - I know everyone has been talking about them lately, but they are pretty good.I only have one album...Ok Computer. I'm really getting into it though.Good band. Alright, time for me to shut up now.Sorry for writing a novel. Later everyone, Sean ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #386 ***************************
