It says: "and fame, all you maidens, it don't exist too long". This doe not make sense. It should be " and feign all you maidens, but don't resist too long". That is, pretend to resist, but don't overdo it, girls. Some other parts that, at a glance, are wrong too are: "You're no longer human, you're an insatiable ho." Surely it should be "hole" (like a black hole that sucks in everything and nothing come back from). And I hear "velvety" rather than "velveteen". Take care, Barry Howarth ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2000 01:36:45 -0400 From: Miguel Gonzalez Subject: [EDA] Jewel and the Pronoun http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Awful/Archive2000/001019d.html Jewel and the Pronoun Sweet songstress Jewel used a surprisingly sultry trick to lasso rodeo champ Ty Murray. No shocker that Jewel can seem irritatingly innocent, but the chick was simply cheeky when she met the horsey hunk. In an interview with Fox Sports from the Laughlin Shootout in Nevada, Ty told the tawdry tale of how he happened to hook up with his singing sweetie. As Ty knew Jewel is a big fan of all things country, T.M. explained that he sent her rodeo tickets. And when he and Jewel finally met, she batted her babies and inquired, "So, do you wanna fuck?" Not a tactic that usually leads to long-term love--a roll in the back of the Dodge, maybe. But in this case, the line seems to have worked--the two are reportedly engaged. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2000 07:54:46 +0200 From: "Emilie" Subject: [EDA] CDTD : song question Hi angels, I just finished reading Chasing Down the Dawn, needless to say I loved it :-) Does anyone know what is the song Jewel is talking about on page 131 ??? the song everyone agreed was a hit material but Jewel didn't like. It is a pretty stupid letter. Although it represents the sentiments of a lot of people in Alaska. Jewel is mocked regularly in skits, plays, and on the radio. Not that you can really blame people who've been brushed aside so much. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I saw this in my Anchorage Daily News this morning. The jewel letter is actually a result of Sara Waisanen as we know. But she's a comedian in Alaska. We've got a seasonal show called the Whale Fat Follies in Spenard and Alice Welling regularly rips Jewel a new one there. Personally I think it's pretty funny. Seeing as how Jewel has snubbed us one too many times. But I mean really, it's just all in jest. Here's what the article said : Let us enchant you (with audio clips) 'Jewel' and 'Martha' grace Alaskans with their presence (Published October 15, 2000) Alaska's been in the news again lately, and not just because of our record Permanent Fund dividend checks. First we were blessed when that doyenne of domesticity, Martha Stewart, filmed an episode of her television show on the Last Frontier that aired recently on Channel 2. (She only got as far as Southeast, but there's always next year.) And did you notice that Alaska's homegrown warbler Jewel has a new book out? We couldn't help but notice -- the publisher sent us a copy. Was Martha's visit truly a good thing? Is Jewel's writing as precious as her name? We provided a tape of the show and a copy of the book to Alice Welling and Sara Waisanen, a pair of local performers who have a gift for parody and, it turns out, creative writing. They got into character, and their characters "wrote" about their latest projects. Humorist and actor Welling regularly performs Stewart skits in shows at the Fly By Night Club. Her "Martha Goes Camping" routine, from the club's latest CD, has been getting national airplay on Dr. Demento's radio show. Waisanen brought down the house at a recent poetry slam with her dead-on impersonation of Jewel reading poetry by, of course, Jewel. Waisanen, who recently earned a master's degree in acting, says she may reprise the performance at the next slam. That is, unless the Kilchers find her first. • Read Welling's "From Martha" • Read Waisanen's "From Jewel" _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I disagree with this... i think it is "It dont exist to long" meaning, you may only get one chance at it, and by the time your ready for another, the fame has died, and it has moved on. The Song is all about taking a chance. "So search all you miners, you hunters of dreams, look in the allyways for what you know is not what it seems," That is literally saying chase down the dream, and take the chance when you have it. "Its the last rodeo" its hte last chance.. it wont come back again. this is just what i think it means. anyone else have a take? I don't understand why they would have to be photocopied! Why not just use the original pictures and names? I mean, can we really not part with a picture? Anybody who really wants to be a part of this project should just send a picture that they either have doubles of (or negetives to get another copy) or have no trouble parting with, that way you can use original pictures. I had never even *thought* that when the idea was brought up it would be with photocopies and not with real pictures, besides, it would be an even HUGER pain the the rear if the person who received them had to be bothered mailing them back to everyone. I think having real pictures, like what I thought was happening, would be even more special to Jewel, and there is NO reason at all why we would have to take photocopies of our written names! If we can't part with our name written on a piece of paper, there's some problem! ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2000 11:52:17 -0700 From: "~*~Sandy~*~" Subject: Re: [EDA] Last Dance Rodeo I agree with Jess, for more than one reason! I'm looking for more. (I only have two) If you happen to have a killer picture of Jewel on the sidelines, (not singing or anything like that), I'd love to use it for my Jewel e-Cards section. The 1996 Alaska State Fair advertised that Jewel was playing before they booked her. When they did try to book her she was already committed to the Neil Young tour that summer. So then everyone in Alaska was pissed off at Jewel when they really should have been pissed off at the idiots who advertised her without booking her. Things like this happen all the time. Anyone in Alaska that is still pissed off at Jewel for not playing that concert can blow it out thier frozen behinds. My opinion of course! :) Dee ps. Maybe the lyrics have changed, but both versions I have are VERY clear, and in both Jewel sings "feign all you madiens, but dont resist too long" and the versions I have she sings " lest you look behind you and see your own shadow is gone", instead of "at least look behind you..." But she has been known to change lyrics in the past, so who knows?Personly, I like the "feign" line better. And who's to say for the website, someone on the J-team didn't transcribe the lyrics?
