Lets accept the fact that "our" lil' angel is grown up and so has her music, and as her fans we should respect her progress and a talented artist as well as a humanitarian. And that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Peace to all! Spenser ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Oct 2000 00:52:46 EDT From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: [EDA] NJC: Join EDAs in fighting hunger this holiday season! Well, if anyone is interested in some positive action on this list (instead of rehashing the same old tired confrontational b.s. from the usual suspects), I'd like to suggest an "angelic" project for this holiday season to add to the mix... While the suggestion to donate money as an EDA group is a commendable one, I strongly recommend us doing something a bit more personal that might produce more immediate, measureable results. Inspired by the philosophies and sensibilities of Jewel, The Everyday Angels Foundation (EDAF) was created by list EDAs to channel some of our good intentions and energies into making a difference in the world around us. Some of our most successful efforts have involved helping local foodbanks. We've volunteered as a group many times at Second Harvest affiliate foodbanks across the country, with as many as two dozen EDAs spending a morning helping their community, then sharing some quality time together at a video arcade -- or whatever local "fun" event that could be arranged. These volunteer days have already been held in Massachusetts, New Jersey and California, and there are 47 other states we could help in. Here's the plan: *** STEP 1: Go online to the Second Harvest website and find out if there is a local foodbank or pantry near you. The Second Harvest network is extensive, and they all need help AFTER the rush of Thanksgiving week volunteers has passed, usually during the first two weeks of December. browse---> http://www.secondharvest.org/foodbanks/foodbanks.html *** STEP 2: Let the EDAF know that you want to join the project. If you want to coordinate a local EDA volunteer event, great. If you just want to meet other EDAs and see what this volunteer thing is all about, email us and we'll hook you up with others in your area. Get your friends and family to go as well, it's actually quite fun! email---> edafinfo@aol.com *** STEP 3: We'll help out at as many of the foodbanks across the US (and the world, if any international EDAs are up for it) as possible. As we've done in the past with the "everyday acts of kindness" and blood donation projects, the EDAF will compile your stories and forward the results to the Higher Ground for Humanity folks, and ask that they share it with Jewel and Lenedra. I'm sure it will make all our holidays a bit brighter, and show that the EDA spirit is alive and kicking in the year 2000. share---> ourselves Along the way, I'm sure we'll all enjoy ourselves, and the new friends we meet as a result of doing it! :-) It's funny, but the EDAs who have volunteered at foodbanks in the past always seem to feel privileged to do so. NOT that they felt self-important about helping their less fortunate neighbors, but that they found themselves in a situation where they suddenly realized that simple things like having food was much more important than the silly things they usually worried about. Trust me, it opens your eyes and puts some things in perspective... Just an idea, angels. Comments? Any interest?
