Like I have mentioned twice before i am a New Angel and I still have no Idea what I am doing here. I love Jewel and I love her music....It calms me when I am angry Gives me hope when all My hope is gone....Revives my soul when I am about to give up and even makes me Cry over some of the roads I have taken. I would like to know a few things about this mailing list if someone could take a few minuites to answer my questions. First I was wondering if anyone could help me pick out a angel name for myself and Secondly I was wondering if i could send things like poems and stories and things that I have recieved to all of you even if it has nothing to do with JEwel. And the last thing I was curiouse about was why everyone is fighting? Thanks for your time Nina (unknown Angel) Ps...Shawna email me Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 20:48:05 -0500 From: Greg Dunn Subject: [EDA] Re: sean's comments Hehehe! Sean, every time you post it's not only timely but it stirs up the complacent among us and forces people to THINK. Bravo! I haven't posted in a while, (Sorry Mike!) mostly because my zillion other pursuits have stolen me away and forced me to be less active online than once before. Just briefly, I've been a member of this list since about day 10 (er, March 1995?) and have had the pleasure of watching Jewel's career and her fans swell from invisible to staggeringly influential. When she first played in Indianapolis, there were two people waiting outside after her too-short acoustic set, and I got to spend a few precious minutes chatting with this vivacious young lady. Last time I saw her, a year ago, you couldn't get close to the tour bus. :-) Anyway... >Have you heard the Jewelstock tapes perchance? Now there was a once-in-a-lifetime show. I'll never forget that stunning performance and the evening of magic that it occupied. I think we were all blown away by the raw power of Jewel's emotional delivery that night, and we all wandered around afterward going, "Can you BELIEVE that?". I remember Liz Clark and I standing behind the theater waiting for Jewel to say goodbye to her boyfriend, and when we finally approached her, she was pleasantly amused at how polite we had been, not charging her the moment she came out the back door. :-) I have to say, the list was very very depressed when it was learned that all the great music she committed to tape around that time was tossed aside as "not representative of her current direction", in favor of the more marketable but less astonishingly evocative tracks that ended up on _Spirit_. IMHO her live, predominantly acoustic shows still beat anything she's ever committed to tape, even when she waters down the emotional content for the tours (I mean, could the average concertgoer -- typically not an EDA -- withstand two and a half hours like Jewelstock? My brain was jello after that) her shows are pretty entertaining. >...on her released albums. Check out: Nicotine Love, Nikos, Jessica, Emily, >Here When Gone, Boy Needs a Bike, Down So Long(original), Louisa and Her Blue >Guitar, etc I'd like to add "Moon Over Austin", "His Pleasure Is My Pain" and "All The Animals", which bring me near to tears when I listen to that evening's show. Just literally amazing. And who will ever hear them, unless they have an Angelfood tape? :-( > >Nobody wants to hear you rant, and completely destroy the opinions of others > >Sure they do, why do you think Dennis Miller's HBO show does so well? Come to >think of it, Chris Rock's as well. LOL. Every time Sean posts, it seems to provoke a few people into statements like this. I remember some grand and loud discussions with himi on this list back in '96 and '97, which usually ended up with everyone laughing and apologizing after the stones finally stopped zinging around. Get this, folks: Sean is one of the BIGGEST Jewel fans I've ever known; he's proved it many times in the past. Sure, sometimes he's a little abrasive, but he almost never speaks without forethought and a valid point. I sometimes disagree with his point, but you know, it gets me thinking, and sometimes I end up with a better appreciation for the subject afterward. I love spirited discussions, but let's not slide into name-calling again...
