That, to me, is >because she is an artist that has in no way hit her stride yet Have you heard the Jewelstock tapes perchance? >her writing is very much a hit-and-miss operation. I think she writes things >very instinctively. She's not the kind of artist that spends months slaving >over one song Agree with you there >I think she's writtenvery few songs that could be considered "amazing" or >"brilliant" ...on her released albums. Check out: Nicotine Love, Nikos, Jessica, Emily, Here When Gone, Boy Needs a Bike, Down So Long(original), Louisa and Her Blue Guitar, etc >as far as your comments about Spirit... Pieces of You isn't that much better. Never said it was. I agree it's mixed, and that her best work, by far, is unreleased. But at least it was pure, something Spirit was not. >In terms of writing, Pieces ofYou has ONE song that I would consider verging on >"amazing".. and that's Amen. Other than that there's nothing special I disagree there, though I think you're right on about Amen. I think Foolish Games(album version only, not the Batman and Robin version) is great, same for Who Will Save Your Soul. Especially lyrically. And Daddy packs a nice little punch as well. The short little folky songs work fine, Adrian is a nice story song, Painters is weak, Don't is generic(but better live), etc etc. >Spirit is essentially a more polished version of the same thing...there is no >Amen... but there's a handful of decent songs (down so long, barcelona, do you, >absence of fear, enter from the east) that show improvement in song writing (I >think) Down So Long is decent, not as amazing as it was originally, but still a nice song. Absence of Fear, the arrangement hurts it badly. I think the real masterpiece on that album though is "Do You." Especially lyrically. But it's rock arrangement is pretty cool as well. Would love to hear it acoustic. >Oh,and the performance at Woodstock was basically a shortened version of that >"mediocre" tour that you were talking about, minus the acoustic section >(which was varied quite extensively every night). I disagree. That tour rarely saw the inclusion of songs like "Race Car Driver" and "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone." Those two plus "Down" and "Down So Long," without a lot of the Spirit-based filler that clogged up fuller sets. And as for the "acoustic section" that "varied extensively"? Come on. The acoustic section was often one song, sometimes two. And it varied between a few different songs. It was like a bad tease. >Nobody wants to hear you rant, and completely destroy the opinions of others Sure they do, why do you think Dennis Miller's HBO show does so well? Come to think of it, Chris Rock's as well. Later, Sean Yes, I'm wondering why I'm posting so much lately also. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 01:30:39 EDT From: FolkChick69@aol.com Subject: [EDA] gerrits jewel page and comment about "new" jewel can someone please send me the link to this page? i really need to get there heh ;) another comment : About the "new" jewel... theres only one Jewel, and she may change her hair style, she may start using a few more diff. beats and stuff in her music, she may get her tongue pierced, but shes Jewel! our angel, and we need to support her, and keep up the love, cuz you guys are all amazing, and so is she!! duh, and its just... everyone changes somehow... sometime... and maybe jewel thinks its time for a change... but I think shes just peachy now ;) Always brynn the folkie angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 07:41:35 EDT From: Minnie822@aol.com Subject: [EDA] shadow's play hey angels-- I haven't been hear for a while, and i just heard shadow's play for the first time on leno. i don't know if i like it or not, but i'm sure with time it'll grow on me... the earth angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 13:31:54 GMT From: "Darwin Cuenca" Subject: [EDA] looking for mp3 of Face of Love performed in Breast Cancer Foundation hi there angels, i really like the song face of love but the version in her joy album was very different for what i expected. i really like her version of face of love when she sang it few years ago in a Breast Cancer Foundation show, but i just only heard it over real audio so im asking if u have in mp3 format of this song, pls. email me privately. thanks. btw, when will be the released of rosie o' donell christmas album? i heard that face of love was included in the album. thank again. darwin sleeping angle ;-) I'd rather see the world from another angle. You seem to be equating "rarely played" with "played every night". What kind of stupid shit is that? Then Sean says <> I have tapes of almost half the shows on that tour and most acoustic sets were between 4 to 7 songs, not "often one song, sometimes two" as you say. Another case of you talking shit to support your argument. Then Sean says <> Sean says acoustic sets varied between a few different songs. Does a few mean two Sean? Three? Ten? Fifty? On tapes I have these songs in the acoustic set portion of shows from that tour. Apparently these are some of those few you were talking about? Pieces Of You, Cold Song, Louisa & Her Blue Guitar, Dont, Morning Song, Enter From The East, Passing Time, I Thought I Saw You Last Night, Sometimes It Be That Way, Grey Matter, Innocence Maintained, Carnivore, Does Anyone Believe in Love Anymore, Per la gloria adorarvi, Angel, Fat Boy, Too Darn Hot, Happy Ending, Dolphin & Wolf, Everything Breaks, My Body Is Changing, Kiss The Flame, Little Sister, Old Lovers House, Last Dance Rodeo, So Close To Heaven, Satelite, Weeping Tree, Sue Lee Song.... Thats just what I have from that tour trading tapes with you guys and I dont even have half the shows on that tour! I guess thats a few songs to Sean or just another example of talking shit to help him intimidate others who have different opinions. <<>Nobody wants to hear you rant, and completely destroy the opinions of others. Sure they do, why do you think Dennis Miller's HBO show does so well? Come to think of it, Chris Rock's as well.>> Here you tell the truth. You enjoy destroying the opinions of others and it seems to all of us that you consider massive exageration and lies to be fair game when doing it. Its one thing to have a friendly debating of opinions and another to enjoy destroying others opinions with your lies for the fun of it. Doing that adds nothing to a good discussion and says so much about you. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2000 00:45:30 +0800 From: Barry Howarth Subject: [EDA] Re: jewel-digest V5 #353 Hi Angels, I think Louise's idea of another Christmas collection is great. Nothing much was done for Jewel's birthday this year, so Christmas is a good time to do something for her to thank her for the recent shows (that some of you lucky people particularly on the west coast of the US have seen) and for the great new songs she's been performing lately. And raising money for HGH projects is something we know she would appreciate. I'm sure many of you will support this great idea and those who don't want to be in it don't have to. And now's the time to start. I'm sure Alan will help with getting an address to send the donations to and with letting us know what project the money could go to. If we got a thousand people on the list to each give $5 or $10 that would go a long way in the Third World. Of course, we Australians would have to give more (in our own currency, seeing the bottom is dropping out of it due to the speculators in the money market). Still, I'll be in it. i hope a lot of you will too. Thanks, Louise (again). Her concert at last years pinkpop, was nice to see a photo from in the book .... I think i really felt the book pretty amazing. you can really see that jewel invested a lot of time in the writing, editing and illustrations of the book.. it's my favourite, i am a dutch fan and for me this book is better understandable than her book a nigh without armor. bye michiel a dutch Jewelfan http://www.jewelkilcher.myweb.nl Jewel Impala -a dutch tribute site for Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 15:53:15 EDT From: JewelKGirl@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Attention Michigan EDAs!! Hi everybody! I'm kinda new on the list. I just joined, but I have been on it before. I never posted, so none of you probably know me. I am 18 years old and I attend a local community college in Battle Creek, MI. I have been a Jewel lover since about the time of Christmas in 1998... so roughly 1 1/2 years. I fell in love with her music when I saw her live in Detroit, MI in Aug. 1999. I have collected many of her cds, books, photos, and her video. She's basically what I look up to. She has a phenomenal (sp?) voice. She has inspired me to sing and pick up guitar. Someday I hope to write a few of my own songs. And someday I hope to be on stage with just me and my guitar. Hopefully not too big of a stage!! She has also inspired me to keep up my environmental habits of recycling and help keeping the Earth clean. I just wanted to give a little background information on myself before I ask my question. Does anyone here live in Michigan? Preferrably around the lower south central penisula? I mean around Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Lansing....? I would really like to get together and have a little group to talk about Jewel and play. I would really like to jam guitar! Thank you so much! Mike...I hope you are still enforcing your demerit system. Does the word "shit" really need to come up every other sentence or so? You would think on a list entitled "Everyday Angels" that people would hold each other in a higher regard, and exhibit a little bit of maturity. Just my opinion, not a lie, and not just for the fun of it. I hope this says a lot about me, expecting much more from the EDAs. Do you think Jewel or Lenedra would take pride in reading the stuff that is being said lately? I personally do not like the songs, but at least when someone else has a differing opinion, I don't use a foul mouth and a harsh tongue, and stoop to middle school name calling in rebutal. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 20:33:45 EDT From: PoPoVaTwiLiGhT@aol.com Subject: [EDA] ok enough please!! ok angels enough of all this arguing already!!!
