It suprised me for a while but you realize, this is quite natural! I think that all artists go through a phase where they decide they wanna be a little kooky or creative, and stretch themselves a bit. Here's the key word; they try to be D I F F E R E N T. Different is a painful word for some people! But anyway, a lof of artists like to try new stuff out after they've established themselves. Greendays new album is has some totally off the wall stuff (listen to "Misery") and it sounds totally kick. Radiohead....well Radiohead is Readiohead, 'nuff said. U2 is an excellent example, they went off the deep end throughout the 90's, I mean Joshua Tree and then Achung Baby...I mean it was like like, is this the same band? (Their new album comes out Halloween!! BUY IT!!) and we got stuff like "One" and "Mysterious Ways" out of those adventures. (I watched Net Aid again, remember when Jewel and Bono sang together? Oh, so touching!!!) What I'm trying to say is that this could be a good thing, kids! Or maybe a bad thing, it's all in how we, the loving fans, digest this new music. Personally "Shadows Play" was excruciatingly boring. Why wasn't JEWEL behind that guitar? And personally, I would give my prized gerbil collection for a YWMFM II. But I think "Serve the Ego" is awesome!! So there you have it. Jewel's gonna throw us some curve balls, we should at least take a swing. ~~Richard The Formerly El Nino Drenched Angel ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Oct 2000 03:14:39 EDT From: GWJewelGrL@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Shadows Play bashing i dont think this is the i love Jewel mailing list either....its a list for people to get together and discuss an artist and music of an artist that they enjoy. I am not saying how i feel about the song, however i do believe that people are entitled to say whether or not they like a song, it is more pertinent then whether or not they like the clothes she is wearing (especially to the list) and if people really dont like it, maybe itll be good for jewel to see what the reaction to the song was from the list to decide whether or not to market it. Jewel is human, and if someone doesnt like a song, they shouldnt be like well i respect her anyway...its not like she is a goddess and we should all bow down to her and hold back our opinions because it is jewel and just say i respect the new path she is taking. If someone doesnt like the song they should say, i really think this song isnt good and that this is not really the right musical area for her style and she should stay in the genre she works in, or try experimenting with some other music style. I agree that there is sometimes too much ass kissing on this list, and if one were famous they would find it to be irritating....you are held up to this greater than thou type position. Then many people treat this list like it is a jewel shrine...and no matter what she does it has to be great, and she is perfect and could never do anything wrong....SHE IS HUMAN. I think for once this list is being put to some use to serve its purpose, to discuss music, and to determine how we feel about it. And you state that we are entitled to our own opinions.....but the way you say it and express your argument is that we are entitled to our own opinions as long as we keep them sustained and to ourselves. What is the purpose of a discussion list if you dont facilitate discussion? I've planning on it for over a month, and it's my friend (the singer's) birthday. I feel like someone ran over me twice, but I still want to go more than anything! It reminds me of a couple of years ago when I went to go see a Jewel concert in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve. I had a terrible head cold, and the lady behind me kept blowing her noise maker every five seconds in my ear. It was special...But, I'm still glad I went. Jewel rocked her way through my tylenol induced fuzziness ;) I was just wondering if anyone else had funny "Sick Stories" to share about going to see a Jewel concert or anyone else's concert for that matter. Just wanted to introduce a new thread. And, hey, it beats debating her appearance and whether people love her too much or not enough, etc ;) Ciao for now, Sari ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Oct 2000 14:11:20 -0700 (PDT) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Hotel=20Angel?= Subject: [EDA] Lyrics please Hi Everyday Angels :) Can anyone please tell where I can get the lyrics to songs such as 'Damn the Daisies', 'Stephenville', 'Shadows Play', 'Violet Eyes'??? Ahh.... remember Pop? Huge difference between that and their earlier stuff.... I went to one of their concerts on that tour though, and it kicked ass! I swear, they played "rain gods" or something, because the concert was outside, and in synch with the beginning to Discoteque, there was a huge clasp of thunder, and it began pouring. The rain STOPPED once again, eight in sync with the END of the song.... it was creepy. anywho....
