Happy autumn! Well I just got finished taping the tonight show and the song she performed was very nice and her performance was lovely yet im beginning to fell the spirit of Joan rivers surge into my body and i feel like i must make comments on her appearance (OF COURSE this my PERSONAL opinion and any disagreements should be made via MY PERSONAL email address and not be bothered by the list) thank you for indulging me but im just covering my tracks! so anyway along with the comments well first off she started singing and the first thing i noticed was the high hair, looks like she got into a fight with a blow dryer and a can of hairspray, Lol but you know what they say "the higher the hair the closer to God"! second I noticed that Jewel was being a little leggy tonight, if you didn't know it, it almost looked like a maternity dress , just think "jewel with a bun in the oven"! :) hehe everything else was very nice , she got many chances to talk about Ty considering the whole panty hose conversation and during the Chat with Jay I kinda sensed that she wasn't feeling to chatty tonight, many lulls in the conversation, other than those completely superficial points her appearance was wonderful , (much better than letterman) Anyways that's my 2 cents! Shadows Play? Well, hopefully Jewel doesn't play this song anymore. The cheese from this song was oozing out of my television set. I think Jewel had good intentions in mind and was trying for a somewhat jazzy old school feel, a la Phoebe Snow or Tony Bennett with Diana Krall, but she didn't achieve her goal. Instead this came off as bad karaoke. Better luck next time. She's kinda doing a genre hopping thing right now. So next I'm expecting maybe a big hair '80s power ballad, a la Heart. Or perhaps a little hip hop, a throwback to Jewel's middle school days as Swiss Miss. Anyway, that was my take on the Tonight Show. Also, she seemed even more snobby than usual. She made some sort of snide comment to James VanDerBeek and was talking about her boyfriend in a way that seemed demeaning to women, like she adored him so much and he would take of her and protect her and shit like that, like he was such a patriarchal manly man or something because he rides bulls for a living. I found it unsettling from someone who once claimed in "I'm Sensitive" that she wanted a "sensitive man." Subject: [EDA] the "new" Jewel Haha...aka the "confused" Jewel. Anyway...first we get a bluesy/jazzy/African drumming thing, then a bossa nova/latin/lounge act thing with the big 80's hair going on. Haha. Funny that Jewel herself made fun of that very hair style a few years back. Oh well. Serve the Ego is alright...I like it better than Shadows Play. Neither were that great, but I guess she's just experimenting with different styles right now in between her releases. Maybe we'll see something heavier soon...that would be cool. I'd like to see Jewel with the distortion, even bigger hair, and guys backing her with even bigger hair, and more makeup! haha...at least that would be quite entertaining. :-) And no one send any flames about this e-mail cause I could care less, to be honest. I'm sitting here laughing and I think this isn't anything to take all too seriously anyway. It's just my opinion, so deal. Right Sean? ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Oct 2000 17:13:09 -0400 From: Scott Evans Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel at the Copa(I mean Leno) >Better luck next time. I kinda agree. I am not too into her jazzy stuff, but its more personal interest in that style of jazz. NOT her talent or anything like that. I think it is great that she is expanding her horizons and trying new stuff. That is how musicians stay alive in themselves and don't feel burned out. We all know Jewel bores easily, and I want her to still feel the spark for music. I know there will be something l like. Break ME is the most beautiful song ever from her. I love the Oxygen version.
