One was a guy, pretty tall, wearing white sweat pants and probably a jacket, although i don't remember. You had a bunch of pictures with you, i think. the other person was a girl wearing jeans and a pair of sneakers. you might have had a backpack also. Anyway, you guys were there together and i never would have though to say anything, but the strangest thing happened. i waited outside for Jewel until some time after 4 o'clock and then i walked to my car, drove around the city a little, and headed to a friends house in Queens. Well, on my way through Queens, i happened to pass the two of you standing on the side of the road. It was weird. Anyway, I just wanted to find out who the two of you were and say hi. - -katherine ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Hello Jewelfans, I just have been watching Jewel on Letterman in Holland and i have to tell you this song is so different to any performed song Jewel done lately. I really was thinking that Jewel was singing a new-age style song. I recently attended accoustic concerts in CA and they were pretty amazing after i had seen her last year with band in Europe. I guess this is just a new way for Jewel of singing. Does anybody know if the bandmembers on the song Save the ego were familiar artists to Jewel, or were they part of the Letterman show ?????? Is the song Shadow play a same kind of song // I haven't heard this song yet. So any information would be nice. I would recommend Jewel to sing songs like Does anybody believe in love (just with the same passion as she done at the CA concerts i have seen) , i think than her fans will be even more exicted . I just wanted to add my $0.02 to the list about the new songs! I think they are totally awesome.. if this is considered "Jewel going in a new direction" then I guess I'll be following right along with her... "Serve the Ego" can do without the backup singer(s).. and I imagine on the album (if it's included, will have Jewel on back-up/accompaniment which will sound really rad)... :-) "Shadows Play" is really cool too! It's loungey, which is awesome.. I feel like I'm at an open-mic coffeehouse type thing which is a lot of fun for me, so, this is fitting! :-) Should be interesting if this is on the new album, cause there will be a wide range of songs on it which is gonna be wicked! I hope Jewel plays another new song on Leno on Wednesday! 2 for 2 so far! Also, has anyone heard any rumors on when a new album may be released? It's interesting that she is "testing" the new songs on TV shows as opposed to at her live shows.. not a really common practice amongst artists, but good considering if she decides not to use these on the next album, there'll be good recordings of them to have as opposed to an audience recorded show, which can sometimes be "sub-standard".. Anyway.. that's how I feel about it.. not that it matters too much... just hope that there's others who agree with me cause I see a lot of people kinda scratching their head's going, "What's Jewel thinking with these new songs?! That doesn't sound like the Jewel of old" and so on.. I don't know, I really like them!! later, Morgan the angel who likes the new songs... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 03:28:10 -0700 From: "maria cristina silud sitoy" Subject: [EDA] happy birthday.. I think Jewel should play what she wants to play, and I'm glad she is experiementing with different styles. She can do so much more than that folkie genre she is stereotyped as doing. As for Serve the Ego, Its not new age... it has alot of percussion in it, and its very fluid. Shadows Play is FAR from new-age..... it's JAZZ!! One of the best types of music is Jazz! I think people would be more excited to hear Jewel sing other songs besides the stereotyped-jewel-music. Because then they can see Jewel is FAR more diverse than You Were Meant For Me and Foolish Games. cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus - ----- Original Message ----- From: Michiel van Gorkum To: Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2000 1:46 AM Subject: [EDA] Jewel singing new age songs ??? > Hello Jewelfans, > > I just have been watching Jewel on Letterman in > Holland and i have to tell you this song is so > different to any performed song Jewel done lately. > > I really was thinking that Jewel was singing a new-age > style song. Shadows Play is a really cool loungey MOR kind of song which suits Jewel's voice perfectly, I'm sure most of you will agree with me on that one :)... It's a love song and is a tiny bit like Fiona Apple in some points, especially vocally during the chorus. And Serve The Ego... I can't stop listening to this song - I'm hooked! Like absolutely nothing I've heard before and probably my favorite of all the new songs we've heard this year by Jewel. I don't think this is a 'new direction', but just a really good little experiment by Jewel. The beat is really African-sounding, the singing is really relaxed and sort of slurred sounding in parts, and the 'underneath the disco lights' bit is a cool uplifting kind of part. The lyrics are funny, they don't always seem to go together but if you just look at it a bit like an abstract painting, it all seems to make sense in a way... It's simplistic, not in the same way as Jewel's acoustic stuff, but in a really unique way. And it's really catchy. Already one of my favorite :). Also, Jodi, I got the Rare Angels tape in the post today! Thankyou, it's really good! Second, don't you come in here and tell me what to do. I didn't label anyone, and how dare you chastise someone for calling an unspecific person stupid and then say we wouldn't know the difference between spider bait and regurgitator, which is pretty much the exact same insult (and has nothing to do with the point you were trying to make). Nothing I said was rude to anyone at all, in fact I said someone should make a list to warn people who *won't* be able to tell the difference, WITHOUT putting down those people whatsoever. Don't you tell me to stop "downloading pirated songs", I can do whatever the hell I want to do, because frankly you don't own me, and since you don't even know me, don't make commands of me. Jewel has had no problem with us trading things via the list, and this is the same thing - this keeps me from having to send postage and tapes to 3493809 people to get cassette tapes. So I'll do it as much as a I feel like it, and you have no right to tell me not to. Sure I got what I paid for, I can't PAY for UNRELEASED Jewel music, think about it. If I did pay for it would be BOOTLEGGED and then it would be wrong. Are you going to sit there and pretend you don't have anything Jewel has done that would be considered pirated? No cassette tapes? video's? If you don't like mp3's so what, keep it to yourself and shut up, there are a lot of people on the list who have them - they aren't hurting her if we aren't bootlegging them for money, in fact they are probably helping her by making more fans interested in her music. Are you just a hidden member of Metallica or something? So thank you so much for your useless post, next time before you take your yearning for controversy and dribble out more crap, think. ~ Sandy - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shane" To: Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2000 1:07 AM Subject: Re: [EDA] Black Day > Their not stupid, you wound'nt know the difference between spider bait and > regurgitator.
