Hey everyone, Well, I really do not remember Wendy asking for Free angelfood..( I do read most posts, though I may have missed a couple down the line.) There is nothing wrong with expecting a blank tape and postage if you're going to dub something for someone, and with the amount of dubbing Derrick does, I'm sure he will be the first to agree with that... I think his biggest complaint (and one I somewhat agree with) is that it does seem that our little community is not as giving as it once might have been. I have never begged for angelfood, but of what I have (which is not a big, but not small collection) about half was given to me free. (Speaking of which, Thanks Amy!) Okay, so we all can't afford to send out tapes across the country all the time. I'm just a dirt poor ditch-digger, I can relate to that. But, every now and then, a little generosity will not break the budget, I have found from experience on this list, the more you put in, you'll take out even more in friendships and good times, (and maybe even a few tapes, and the satisfaction of knowing what color eyeshadow jewel wore yesterday). I dunno, maybe it is just the Law of Three coming into play. Anyway, this soapbox is starting to wobble, so I'll step off for awhile =Þ take care rowdy >From: NikosSong@aol.com >To: jewel@smoe.org >Subject: Re: [EDA] ya'll never cease to amaze me! >Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2000 21:52:26 EDT > >Cymbie, you took the words right out of my mouth. Well said, Jenni. And if someone had a problem sending actual blanks, the least they can do is send about $1.50 per tape they want. (plus money for shipping and handling). I know money is not supposed to be exchanged in tape trades, but I figured out some months ago when I bought a pack of type II's, that it came to be about $1.55 per tape. So if I make copies of 3 tapes for someone, thats almost $5, plus shipping, which will add up to about $7-8 total. Sure that might not sound like alot, but when you're a poor college student, living off a small paycheck each week, thats money I could have spent on gas getting to school I spend $50 a week in gas, so that leaves me with $50 to spend on film, photo paper and chemicals... and other stuff I have yet to buy. Anyway I sent her some stuff from mtv unplugged, and vh1 version of "unplugged" and a couple of tunes from a private fan show in 96' (I think). I have a habit of typing incorrectly on purpose sometimes, because I feel it brings character into my email.... Maybe he or she is tired of being compared to someone like you... maybe we should all criticize you EVERY time you spell something wrong and make a big thing about how you want attention... Also: maybe he or she isn’t American like the majority of us? Maybe He/she has bad English or something, instead of not making them feel welcome, why don’t you PRIVATLY email them the CORRECT way she says it, cuz god only knows she NEVER says it ANY other way… And by golly, I’m sure Jewel would be so offended she might even want to kick his/her butt for accidentally saying an extra word or 2 in her song…. I agree that ronald's emails can get kind of annoying. but, whatif, he's not doing it for attention, what if he's not doing it just because he wants to drive us all insane. what if that's actually the way he talks. I understand that he also messes up a lot of the quotes, but I don't think he does it intentionally, I think he honestly just forgets. You know, I was asked a question one time. If some computer analizer named dave from Arizona came up to you and told you he was a God, would you believe him? probably not. Just like...back in the day...when some guy named Jesus told the people that he was God's son...they didn't believe him. There is also a song called "what if God was one of us" by Joan Osbourne. All I'm trying to say, is that Ronald may get annoying, but also could be a very special person. You never know until you get to know him and really listen to what he has to say. I think God (and Jewel) would be very disappointed in the way some of you were so rude to him without ever giving it a second thought. I'm not trying to tell you what to do or how to feel, I just want you all to look at the other side. Thanks for listening. I honestly didn't mean to cause this much "stir" over this, or maybe I didn't since so many people are saying it on their own, I guess I just happened to be the first. I don't appreciate being told that I was being rude when I mentioned it to him, so to whomever said that, read it again. I wasn't being rude with what I said, I tried to say it in as nice a manner as possible. I said I didn't want to offend him, I was just curious. I don't know if this person is for real or not, if they are just trying to get on our nerves. As for this "vernacular" stuff, I'm sorry I don't believe this person is going for the "vernacular". There is no reason in normal everyday posts to try and capture some sort of "romanticism" or blah blah blah of a language, which is what most people are trying to accomplish by using it in a poem etc. I hate to be blunt, but it just doesn't work for me, or apparently here on this list. Yes, anyone has a right to do whatever, but this is honestly not me just being picky. This *irratates* me beyond belief, it's just one of those strange things that everytime I read it, I want to put whiteout all over the Ah'ms on the screen! either that, or bash my head against it till it breaks (hehehe) :)and all I did was ask a simple question as to why he did it, which I did not get an answer. Of course, this person is free to go on talking any way they wish, but at this point it's pretty much guarenteeing they are going to alienate themselves from a few people, but if that's what they wish then so be it. Also, the "forgetting" the quotes deal? Uhm, sorry that doesn't cut it. Like I said in my first post, if you aren't SURE of a quote, you check it out. Not only is it also irritating to read a misquote, it is infact a MISQUOTE. If you can't take the time to make sure the quote is correct, then don't take the time to quote it. I, for one, would not want someone misquoting my words, whether it be a song, a poem, or just something I've said, so I'm sure she (Jewel) doesn't appreciate it. I also think that it's funny for someone to forget the actual words to EVERY SINGLE song they quote by someone they are supposed to be a fan of, that's why I have a feeling this person is doing this soley to be irritating, and it makes it ever worse :) So, sorry, really if what I said in my last post did offend you, I was mentioning it as a way to insult you, I truly wanted to know why you do the Ah'm thing, and as a person I'm allowed to express my opinion of something that I consider irritating. No one else has to like my opinion, he doesn't have to change his way of talking to fit me, but I'm still going to say what I feel. ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Oct 2000 13:05:22 -0700 From: "Sandy" Subject: Re: [EDA] The laws on playing Jewel's music. There is no law against playing live cover songs. If you take a look around, you can find bootlegs of famous bands covering other famous bands, like Pearl Jam covering the Doors, or Limpbizkit covering Rage Against the Machine etc. As long as you aren't trying to take credit for it (by saying something like "this is a new song I'm working on" or something) and you aren't recording it for profit, then there's no law against doing it. You can sing cover songs as much as you want :) ~ Sandy - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Wednesday, September 27, 2000 8:17 AM Subject: [EDA] The laws on playing Jewel's music. > Hello.
