Today's Subjects: ----------------- [EDA] good ol' chaos(actual Jewel content, go ahead, look inside) [Sean35] [EDA] Intro ["Ronald I. Nam" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 22:31:53 EDT From: Sean35RL@aol.comc Subject: [EDA] good ol' chaos(actual Jewel content, go ahead, look inside) Wow, the list is like the old days: people are arguing, cursing is allowed again, people are talking about Dolores from the Cranberries, lies and half-truths are being spouted by Dennis Harris, moderation is nowhere to be seen. Jewel's even performing solo acoutic dates in California! I find that very exciting. Unfortunately her solo acoustic performances are currently limited to the left coast. I for one hope that she does a couple solo acoustic shows here in the East. It'd be nice to see her like she used to be, especially for some of the newer folks on the list who didn't have the opportunity to see her back then and have only seen her on the boring Spirit tour with its unchanging setlists and(for the most part) uninspired band numbers. Also, a quick plug for Dar Williams's new album, The Green World. If you haven't heard of her I highly recommend her to Jewel fans. She has a folky quality(especially in her live shows) that is very reminiscent of early coffeehouse Jewel, before her music was corrupted by popularity, the mainstream, those around her pulling the strings, etc etc. So Dar rocks, check her stuff out. I am also curious to see how Jewel's new book is received, and also how well it sells. Hopefully it is critically acclaimed and well-written and all that. I thought her poetry book was pretty good, even though critical reaction was mixed at best. Also, as for taping, hopefully some of the lucky people who get into Jewel's solo acoustic dates sneak in some really good recording equipment and spread around some good quality CD bootlegs for the world to hear and trade. To also plug another couple of artists, I think it is fantastic that Pearl Jam is releasing official CDs of all 35 or so shows from their recently past European tour. I think more groups/artists should follow likewise, it would definitely cut down on bootlegging by making good-quality sounding recordings of concerts available for fans at a reasonable price while keeping the money going to the artists/bands instead of bootleggers. Also, Bruce Springsteen is rumored to be releasing a DVD with one complete concert plus other highlights from his recent 10 night tour-closing stand at Madison Square Garden. I think Jewel and her people should take note of these groundbreaking events. They are truly giving the fans what they want at a reasonable price while simultaneously combating illegal bootleggers. Imagine a double-CD of Jewelstock, or one of Jewel's other legendary old performances. Anyway, that's all. Just wanted to get some Jewel-content and music talk out there to counteract all the nonsense and arguing and Dennis trying to save people from the unscrupulous likes of me :) Later, Sean Hooks "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me." - -Rage Against the Machine ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 21:46:06 PDT From: "Ronald I.
