Quite frankly, Mykle struck me as the type of person who was most satisfied when he could do something for another person one-on-one, face-to-face. But if donating money works best for an individual, I'd recommend HGH as a fine choice, or any other legitimate group that the donor can relate to personally through experience (ie, a group that lends support or promotes something that has touched their life). Maybe Mykle had just such a group that he actively supported? Does anyone currently have contact with someone in Mykle's more immediate family they could ask? Of course, there are also numerous research groups combatting the disease that took Mykle from us -- lung cancer -- that can always use more financial support. Regardless of the action y'all choose to take, it's an excellent idea and a fitting tribute, Ian. I agree 100% with the last two posts about private emails. I was going to write the same thing myself. In fact if you read the rules for posting it says no private emails will be allowed. What I can't figure out is why all this stuff is being allowed on the list. If this is what you want go turn on soap operas or Rush Limbaugh. The reason I joined this list is so I wouldn't have to read this kind of stuff. I manage a Video Ezy store in Australia and have been pestering distribution companies for details for months. Roadshow Entertainment will release RWTD on VHS (rental only) and DVD on 23 January 2001. The January 23 release package also includes Frequency and The Big Kahuna. I will post more details of promo items and DVD features as they come to hand. I hope this info is of some use. Thanks, Brad..... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 04:59:34 -0500 From: "li'l waternymph" Subject: [EDA] EDA beach cleanup and ramblings heya all my name is luna. i have been on the list since fall of 1996. and although i have attended, and hosted many eda functions, i had never made it "up east" to see amy and dennis and tom in their natural habitats. so my LRT finally wound its way up to that area, and i was so lucky! first lovely amy hosted a LRC and BBQ labor day weekend, where i met her cat holloween, who promptly moved body and belongings into my lungs...... goddess bless claritin! the LRC was really fun, despite my allergies, and despite the DAMN heat (and i am from TX!), and despite dennis and tom making my puppy joe do nasty dances in the middle of my show! i couldn't leave! i stuck to NYC area like a sickness and came back to haunt the eda's again at the beach clean-up. this was my first beach cleanup and it was a strange experience. it is both depressing and fulfilling, and although beach cleaning isn't really my thing, i am so glad i did it. and we found some really cool trash (i mean for trash). "dan's thing" was the most impressive (we need to scan it or something.... it turned out to be the clasp for telephone lines), but the big open BUCKET of motor oil found by my friend christopher was also in the ratings, along with the smashed toilet, 2 vacuum cleaners, a half-burned journal, and i kid you not...... a kitchen sink. oh.... and i think there might have been a budweiser bottle in there somewhere :-) afterwards we all went to this BBQ place with plywood animals littering the yard. now listen here, i am from texas, i know all about bbq, right? sure. seeing all of those plywood animals reminded me of a line PBS left out of jewel's austin city limit's performance. jewel said, "i would eat plywood with bbq sauce on it!" the BBQ was divine, but the sickly margaritas were just WAY too far from the border. (the other border, dan) most importantly, i was finally able to meet long time edas able, eric montas, leif, dan stark, chris m., tammy and rob, albert, kelli, kelly, sue, michelle, and uhh ohhh, i know i am forgetting someone .......... and of course it was good to FINALLY see tom again after all these years. and i GUESS it was good to see dennis again ;-) ;-) and it is always good to see amy, and she must have missed me too since she had a dream about marrying me ;-) special thanks to eric for taking me to see the statue of liberty and for taking a day off of work to look at x-men and pokemon toys at the warner store. and special thanks to dan for spending over 12 hours in the recording studio with me and putting up with my manic laugh fits. and special thanks to amy for letting me sleep in her bed with her. and special thanks to tammy for opening up her home. and specail special special thanks to chris for hating onions and being the guardian angel of joe and keeping dennis and tom away ;-) but special thanks to dennis and tom for showing up...... i just arrived back in TX late this evening. in the past two months, i was in 21 states. i played quite a few shows, but more importantly, i got to know some amazing people. it made me miss the "old days," but the funny thing is, the new days have been around longer than the old. everyone made me realize we should just have fun and stop pining. so we will. thanks for the support! luna ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 20:45:47 -0500 From: "ERIC W LEVENCHUCK" Subject: Re: [EDA] 2 Questions This whole "having to do things stealth" at Jewel's shows strikes me as a little odd. It seems to me that if Jewel was ok with taping, no audience member should have a problem being completely open about it. It is in fact possible for an artist, if they're so inclined, to make provisions for the taping of their concerts. Examples? The Grateful Dead and The Black Crows. Both of these groups have not only allowed taping, but have gone so far as to actually set up sections in the audience where people could tape for the best results. If an artist is popular enough, they are going to be taped, whether or not they consent to it- one of the big criticisms musicians have in regard to taping is the quality of the audience member's recording can reflect poorly on that artist. If Jewel really had no problem with taping, I'd expect her to go the "Dead" way and make sure the recordings that are already being made were of the highest quality possible. This would also help to detract from the sale of illegal bootlegged recordings that are currently available on the internet. If high quality recordings were made openly available to us, the EDAs (not all of us, but some that I know about) wouldn't have to resort to going on eBay in search of a decent quality Jewel show that is going to cost them fifty bucks. Just a thought...or two. It seems to me that if Jewel was ok with taping, One of the problems with people bringing up things Jewel previously said (re: the 4 year old Cranberries mocking) is just that, it's old stuff Jewel said a long time ago. Jewel was fine with taping in the old days (and verbally openly so) when she was playing the 50 to 300 person venues, however all indications I have seen is that they are mum on the subject now-a-days. So, what I THINK it all boils down to is that she personally probably doesn't give a hoot if folks tape her shows, and PERHAPS even her immediate management feels the same, but with her being a much bigger star for Atlantic Records now (who would certainly NOT be in favor of open taping) she nor they can no longer openly condone it, give the OK, whatever. Thus, in my opinion, to be "safe" it's best to just tape her discretely and go stealth if possible, at least in the USA and Canada.
