I didn't know Mykle, as I'm one of the newer EDAs -- I joined sometime in laaaaate '99, early 2000 -- but I had an idea on how we might be able to honor his memory (one I'm not sure has been brought up yet) -- what if we were to donate money to Higher Ground for Humanity, in Mykle's name? (Does anyone know where we'd send it? MrBB?) I was sitting here reading about him, and it dawned on me... Hey! Let's donate money to HGH! Judging by the amount of emails regarding his passing, I can imagine just how many lives he touched, and if we were to donate, even as seperate EDAs and not as one entity, I think Mykle would be proud. (: What do you guys think? Ian ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 02:49:42 EDT From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Shedding a final flash of light on this fiasco... In reponse to Kelli's post (and RERUN of it) I have emailed Kelli privately (as this should have been handled in the first place). I cannot protect someone from themselves, so I am done with that little soap opera. I stand by what I previously posted 100%, including the comments I DID make to Kelli about Sean, and how events played out between the two of them at Bearsville. I'll also stand behind the interactions and contributions I've had with people involved with this list. The ironic thing is that Kelli was apparently upset about ANOTHER person making comments about Sean this past weekend, AFTER she requested the person's opinion on Sean. It seems I wasn't being accused (even though I was "guilty" ;-) After speaking on the phone with several EDAs who were actually there when it happened, I've pieced this scenario together: Kelli came to the weekend event, told MANY of us that she was now dating Sean (which surprised us after the Bearsville experience) and solicited our opinions over lunch. We made the "mistake" of giving our honest opinions to someone who didn't want to hear honest opinions. Kelli went back and told Sean everything we said. Sean got pissed and initiated this public embarrassment by venting to the entire list. End of story. The morale of this whole fiasco? Don't ask people what they think if you don't really want to know. Apologies to everyone who was dragged into this needlessly -- it was simply a case of betrayal of confidence and subsequent hurt feelings... Dennis Harris, (Accused) Thought Nazi and Defender of the Clueless ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 02:58:33 EDT From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: [EDA] My impressions of Mykle Mariette I spent time with the late Mykle Mariette twice in my life, both times at the annual EDA Bearsville Reunion. The first time, in 1997, he introduced himself and handed me an envelope of 5"x7" color prints. They were taken in a field in the wee hours of the morning, and showed the Halle Bopp comet streaking across the southeastern sky. Mykle gave them to me with a broad smile and a request that I distribute them to members of the "Harris Family". I didn't get to speak much more with Mykle that weekend because he left early. I do remember he was soft spoken and seemed to be very a gentle soul. The next time I saw Mykle was at Bearsville two years later. We were able to speak more at length, but the most memorable moment occured as we were all heading over to the old Pinecrest Lodge to go swimming with Alan Bershaw and other members of Jewel's HGH organization. An EDA named Thomas had his car breakdown, and Mykle immediately offered to stay behind and wait for the tow truck with him. I asked Mykle if he was sure he wanted to stay, but in his characteristic manner, he assured me that it would be okay. We spoke a few times later that weekend, but I can't recall a single thing we talked about. What I do recall is seeing Mykle sitting on a fellow EDA's car hood on a sweltering summer afternoon, doing all he could do to make things better for someone who was not having a particularly good day. You know, I never did get all of those prints distributed, so if you should have gotten one (you'll know if you qualified :-), please email me and I'll send you your print. I feel I owe that to Mykle. I have also taken the liberty to post a JPEG of his photograph online for everyone to see at: www.theartof.com/print/myklecomet.jpg From now on, whenever I see a comet or shooting star, I doubt I'll be able to suppress the mental image of Mykle Mariette sitting in that field, camera at the ready, waiting for a flash of brilliance in the sky that only comes a few rare times in your life. Thanks for the listen. Dennis Harris ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 03:33:26 EDT From: Edafinfo@aol.com Subject: [EDA] EDAF: This time Kelly WAS the Survivor! This past weekend's "Survivor Beach Cleanup" was a huge success. With gorgeous weather, almost two dozen people turned out to clean the South Amboy Waterfront in New Jersey. As we began the cleanup, the Superintendent of Parks came by and presented us a Mayor's Proclamation declaring September 16 "EveryDay Angels Foundation Day"! For the third consecutive year, we cleared a lot of debris and trash from our adopted beach, and recorded our findings for future coastal management studies. The cleanup is part of a nationwide program coordinated by The Center for Marine Conservation. Waterway cleanups continue for the next several weeks across the United States, and they are a great opportunity to catch another day in the sun before winter arrives. Further information on the program and local coordinator information can be found online at: http://www.cmc-ocean.org/cleanupbro/index.php3 We encourage those who couldn't attend the New Jersey cleanup to find out what's going on in their own area, get some friends together and have fun making a difference. Thanks to everyone who came out to help and to Rob and Tammy Campbell for once again hosting this event and lending their new couch and floor to the sleepy (and some not-so-sleepy) EDAs. We would also like to thank Luna Taylor and Randi Driscoll for entertaining us at the Saturday night Living Room Concert in such a beautiful way. And, finally, cheers to Kelly Gallagher for being our winning "EDA Survivor". She accomplished what her CBS series namesake couldn't, and we hope Kelly enjoys her new Matchbox Pontiac Aztec and souvenir check for One Ga-zillion Dollars! *ahem* Amy, Dennis, and Tom for The EveryDay Angels Foundation ********************************************************* The EveryDay Angels Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation whose mission is to promote grassroots volunteerism and community involvement. I was simply shocked at the information they VOLUNTEERED. Where do you come up with these things? And where do you get off saying that I am angry at someone ELSE??? YOU HAVE NOT SPOKEN DIRECTLY TO ME SINCE!!!! Are you shocked that I wanted to defend myself because your last post was packed with a TON of lies about me?? Please stop this! I thought this drama was over and then you Dennis just couldnt help yourself and POST THIS TO EVERYONE! I hope people can see where your true colors lie. Now, I know that I've only been part of this list now for about a week and that it's probably not my place to say anything, but I think I should express my thoughts. As I've been receiving these e-mails concerning the recent problems that have been occurring between Sean, Kelli, and Dennis, I can't help but wonder what this list's main purpose is. Is it for spreading the latest greatest in the rumor world; for a group of people who have a serious adoration for one of, in my opinion, the best female vocalists I've listened to; or is it supposed to be a group of people who are dedicated to making the world a better place by donating to charities, environmental awareness and what not? I wish this could be made more clear to me as I am new to this list. I agree with several other EDAs that think all of this personal stuff should be HANDLED PRIVATELY. It is starting to sound like one big e-mail soap opera. From now on, I ask you Kelli, Sean, and Dennis to handle this privately. Don't spam the rest of us with all of this "Days of Our Lives" talk. I hope I haven't offended anyone with my thoughts and feelings; it wasn't my intention. And please forgive me if I have offended anyone, as I'm only trying to make some new friends and get involved in what I think could be a good cause for nature. Take care everyone.
