Survivor weekend.... The Survivor Beach Cleanup weekend in New Jersey begins tomorrow evening. We already have about two dozen EDA's and friends confirmed and it's gonna be a blast! If you're thinking about coming, this is your last chance! The beach cleanup is on Saturday morning and the LRC with Randi Driscoll and Luna Taylor is Saturday night. If you haven't contacted me or Tammy yet and would like to attend, email me at w1ggy2@aol.com or Tammy at tlcathome@aol.com. You can join us for Saturday only or stay for the whole weekend. We'll be having a bunch of fun competitions throughout the weekend, too. Hope to see you there! :-) Amy ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 23:50:47 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: * Re: Mykle Mariette I'd like to pay my respects to Mykle Mariette, who's actions and generous nature typified, for me, what makes this EDA community great. He may not have posted that often, but like the vast majority of EDAs I've had the pleasure to actually meet, he sure was busy making a difference behind the scenes. I met Mykle at the first Bearsville Reunion in 97, but unfortunately he was arriving as I was heading out, so we only spoke for a few minutes. He wasted no time in expressing how thankful he was for discovering the EDAs and damn near hugged me to death regarding the Jewelstock Tapes. As I was saying goodbye, he gave me two 8x10 color photographs he'd taken of the Hale-Bopp Comet, which was a recent occurance at the time and just so happened to be of particular interest to me. How cool! Mykle stayed in touch periodically, but I'd usually hear his name mentioned by other extremely happy EDAs who happened to ask him for help getting tapes. I know he personally helped HUNDREDS of listmembers directly by dubbing Jewel concert tapes and he sure loved doing it. I'd hear the same story over and over from people here. It usually went "I sent Mykle three blanks and postage and he sent me my tapes PLUS A FEW MORE! How awesome!" ...or something like that. This was typical of Mykles generosity and his love for making things enjoyable for others. Almost exactly two years ago today (9/11/98,) Mykle hosted Joy Eden Harrison, Lisa Sanders, 3rd Wish along with friends, neighbors and EDAs in a memorable Living Room Concert at his home in Charlotte, NC. During every intermission between performers, Mykle had fun activity planned with door prizes. No shabby prizes either! I'm talking concert tapes, promo CDs and ANWA books. And by the end of the night, he made sure everyone left with something they'd truly enjoy (much like when he gave me the Hale-Bopp Comet photos.) When the evening was over he then gave out sets of Jewelstock tapes to everyone before they left. He certainly enjoyed making new friends, many of them right here, and he went far out of his way to do it sometimes. He wrote me several times expressing that although he was one of the oldest EDAs, he never tired of meeting and sharing music with other, usually much younger, EDAs; especially "newbies". He certainly believed in the unlimited potential for the EDA community and told me so several times. Maybe in Mykle's honor, all those with concert recordings of Jewel can copy one for someone without any. Rock on Mykle wherever you are! MrBB PS. I'll take my own advice and for the first three newbies that actually took the time to read this far and then reply to me, I'll send you Jewel's out of print "Bits and Baubles" CD. To be eligible, simply put what month of THIS YEAR that you joined this list in the subject line. (Example: August 2000 - Please only reply if you REALLY joined this year.) The first three who follow those instructions and are verified accurate by your list-owner will be notified and sent the CD. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 22:58:56 -0700 (PDT) From: "Thomas N. Miles" Subject: * njc: mykle mariette I met Mykle at the Bearsville '97 gathering. Although I did not get to talk to him much during those few short days, I will always remember the impression he made on me as someone with a genuinely warm and caring soul. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. I know that many EDAs have a special place in their heart for Tara MacLean ~ so, I just wanted to let folks know about an opportunity that's upcoming to see Tara perform on Salt Spring Island, Canada. Tara fans know of her love for Salt Spring ~ her discovery on a B.C. ferry crossing to the island, her and guitarist Bill Bell getting married here... It's a very special place, and it will be a very special place for the return of Tara as a luminous Nettwerk artist on October 1, 2000 at 8 p.m. It'll be an all-ages show at ArtSpring, the island's new 265-seat theatre. TSUNAMI helps nurture teen artists, so we hope to feature as opening artists some wonderful local performers, including Allison Crowe, Kayla Schmah, and Megan Robinson, (One day all these artists are likely to to appear in your towns ~ so, we're proud to know them here and now.) Once the rest of the rest are worked out, they'll be posted on our web-site @ http://www.gulfislands.com/TSUNAMI and, no doubt, the date will be added to Tara's calendar on the Nettwerk site. Any EDAs, (hey Kookybaka Larry, that means you!), who think they might be able to make the trip (we're in the Pacific Ocean between Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, B.C.) write me directly and I can help with travel info (boats and things) cheers, Adrian ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #292 ***************************
