I understand the difference between going out and picking up a new CD as opposed to downloading it.. but i don't think that fact that it's "fun" is reason enough for us to not switch to MP3's.. or at least incorperate MP3's in some manner, considering all the pluses that come with mp3's I mean i personally find it very difficult to tape trade because I live in canada.. and sending money in US dollars is a hassle.. it means going to the bank.... and then posting everything.. it's just a big unnecessary extravaganza that could be avoided by using the internet. not only that... as somebody (sean i believe) pointed it, these songs can be preserved by using the net. in 20 years these songs will still be completely listenable... if we stick to tapes that will NOT be the case. tapes not only degenerate in quality everytime they are copied, they degenerate anyway. plus the listening quality of a tape (even if it's new from the store) is no where near the same as if it's digital (cd or mp3) somebody also mentioned that not everybody has the equipment to play mp3's. well, i think that quite a lot of us have a computer at our houses... and most computers have a soundcard. if you have the net, chances are you have a soundcard. furthermore, i'm not suggesting that we "stop" tape trading.. i mean people can send tapes all over the country if that's what they want.. i'm just suggesting that those of us who want to switch to the computer should do so... i think everybody (even those who enjoy the tapes) will see that it's easier. another person mentioned that if one wants to listen a tape in the car you can't if you have mp3's. well that's wrong. any soundcard has an "audio out" plug. that's how it connects to the speakers of a computer. all you do is plug the audio out into a stereo and record the songs. you may need a plug with different cables on each end.. but it's not anything expensive or difficult to find.. and it will save time and money in the long run. i do it all the time myself. and those who have a cd burner (i'm not saying everybody does.. i don't) can burn the cd's and put it on a tape that way. also, i am aware that many songs are available on the net. hell i have gigabytes of them on my computer. however i think you'll find that most of the songs on these MP3 websites are all the same versions.. and old. there was an FTP server that had TONS of stuff.. but i'm talking about the spirit tour concerts. people want good quality recordings of those.. they're are available on tape.. there is one website that has about 15 or 20 shows!! why not put them on the computer so we can enjoy them without the hassles. i'm also talking about NEW songs that everybody wants to hear. these can be available at the click of a mouse.. rather than sending off a package... which is a hassle anyway. i'm not saying stop trading the tapes.. all i'm saying is we should find a way to incorperate MP3 in a big way.. because for those of us that have the technology (and i think you'll find the majority of us do), it's a lot more sensible. thanks steve ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 Sep 2000 20:54:36 EDT From: Sean1781@aol.com Subject: * Re: tape trading vs. internet Hi angels, I'm sorry, I guess I didn't explain myself enough.I'm not saying we should just stop trading altogether.Like I said before, I've gotten some of my best stuff through trading. And I know not everyone has the access to MP3's and CD burners.I was just saying that we should start leaning more towards MP3's and CDR's, so the quality of these recordings will not change and to make it more convienent for some of us.Someone was saying that they don't like sitting at their computer and listening to music.I totally agree.I hate listening to music on my com.We should just make more angelfood available online so everyone can have access to it, and to start putting more stuff onto cd so the quality wont change when we are trading.I personally put all my angelfood onto cd for just that reason.Someone else was saying that there are tons of angelfood sites online.Well, don't just tell us that they exist, tell us where we can find them.I only know of one site that has a good amount of quality angelfood in MP3's.That's Jewel Kilcher Online. (http://jewel.detour.net) If there are so many of these sites then let us in on them. Ok, sorry, that was a little harsh. Later everyone.
