How are you all? OK, here are some things I'd like to say/ask. (1) You wonder what Jewel is reading. Ok. But there are a few hundred EDAs at their screens, all able to read (otherwise they wouldn't be here :-). So what are they reading? Here some stuff I enjoy/enjoyed: * Let's start with the classics: Shakespeare, "The Tempest" and "Taming of the Shrew" being my favourites (never read it in english though) * Arthur C. Clark "3001". Great science fiction (with focus on science). That's what I call a precise imagination of the future... * Arturo Perez Reverte "The Club Dumas". Very nice written. The movie by R. Polanski (with J. Depp) was not near as good as the book. * Now for something epic: Brian Aldiss "Helliconia". Rise, bloom and fall of a civilisation. Over 3 millennia in one trilogy... * There's some great german literature as well, I'm just not sure if it was ever translated. "Nackt unter Woelfen" by Bruno Apitz. Prisoners of a concentration camp during World War II hide a 3-year old. True story, VERY moving. The camp where this happened is only 10 miles away from where I live. I visited the camp a couple of times, what happened there is just inhuman. (btw IMHO the death penalty is inhuman as well) "Die Physiker" ("The Physicists") by Friedrich Duerrenmatt about the responsibility of scientists. "Homo Faber" ("Homo Faber") by Max Frisch. A man falls in love with a woman that turns out to be his daughter. Not as trivial as it sounds. Because this causes his entire life to fall apart. * Some easier stuff? Ok. Minette Walters, her thrillers are great, not your usual default stuff Enough for now, before Mike cuts everything out for being NJC :-) I hope more EDAs will post some book recommendations. * Ups, nearly forgot about I. Asimov. His Robot stories are more interesting and teaching than most philosophy lectures. And more entertaining. Just imagine the personal conflicts of an AI. (2) When did Jewel perform 'Closer to Fine' with the Indigo Girls and Sarah? I have a live clip where she sings it. Is it from Lilith? Was it ever released by the Indigo Girls or Sarah? (3) How's the Rarities tape doing? Any updates on this one? (4) Any German EDA wants to trade some Angelfood? I have quite a choice... (5) Be nice angels and visit www.PaperWings.de (don't worry, not in German) :-) It's the page I created for talented Nancy Micciulla, well worth the visit. I promise to update it in the next few days... Ok, now that I said all (and forgot some as usual...) have a nice day/night, Christian, the White Sox lovin' Angel P.S. You see I forgot something: At Poltz.com is a videoclip of Steve performing "You're still my favourite bitch". Who's that girl singing backing vocals? By chance Anya Marina, the girl he dates? I heard she's a pretty good singer, are there any samples somewhere in the WildWildWeb? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 09:38:30 -0400 (EDT) From: zanita@webtv.net (Susana Figueiredo) Subject: * NYPOST.COM: Gossip Hi ngels, Here's proof that Jewel's got a sense of humor. ;) Susana The zorean Angel ___________________________________________ JEWEL: COMEDIC TALENT UNLESS you were in the audience at the Digital Club Festival in San Diego, you may never get to see Jewel singing "You Were Meant For Me" in the style of Wiliam Shatner. The act was recorded, but the Alaskan pop star, who seemed to be feeling no pain, is barring digitalclubnetwork.com from re-airing the webcast. Not quite, says her lawyer Eric Greenspan: "Jewel didn't know she was being webcast, and before they re-air it, we want the opportunity to review and edit it." Jewel, who wasn't scheduled to perform, jumped onstage to jam with ex-boyfriend Steve Poltz, lead singer of the Rugburns. It was all very professional: Jewel's current boyfriend, rodeo champ Ty Murray, was in the audience. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 16:45:51 EDT From: SpiritEDA@aol.com Subject: * lyric question Hey, I was reading through the lyircs of Barcelona because i love the song and I was wandering what she meant at one part. The lryic goes "The red light has been following me but dont worry mother its no longer my gravity." What is the red light? And what does she mean by this? Id really aprreciate all of your opinons Katie ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 12:09:09 EDT From: "Kelli Coppens" Subject: * NJC: Bearsville 2000 recap! Hey all in Jewel land! Well it took me a few days to recoop from Bearsville 2000 and a few more days of pushing myself to actually post about it:-) This was my 2nd year going and it was just as much fun as I knew it would be!! LOVED horseback riding and tubing down the rapids!! I was a little worried about the threatening weather forcasts (okay a LOT worried as i usually get!) but the weather turned out to be acually perfect - sunny, nice, and not deathly hot like last year! It was great seeing old faces (NOT MEANING AGE ANYONE) from last year and meeting newbies too like Gina and her beau Jay all the way from Ohio and Dave from Minnesota! How cool that is to come so far to a weekend packed with us crazy folks that you have never met! Hopefully we didnt scare ya away! Anyone reading this and has never experienced Bearsville - ya gotta try it- I'll warn ya tho.. one time and you just may get addicted :-) Only us Bearsville-goers know.... WHERE: to get groovy love beads WHY: The DINER DINER DINER has downgraded to DINER DINER! WHEN: to pull the alchohol away from Abel HOW: To create a VERY BIG FIRE on a VERY LITTLE GRILL while attemping to just simply cook a burger!! WHAT: the powers of magic fairy dust can do and.... WHO: "THE MACHINE" REALLY IS!!! love to all!! Kelli ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 20:48:38 -0700 From: "Tracy Paradis" Subject: * my jewel website finally up again Hi all. I'm making great new J-Cards for my pitifully small collection.. I have Jewelstock (4 tapes) 3-4-99 Palais Theater; Melbourne, Australia (2 tapes w/Steve's set) and that's all I have.. I have some live&rare Melissa Etheridge though, if anyone wants that.. I've been a huge Jewel fan for so long, but I've never really bothered to start collecting her stuff.. I gave away my Radio Angels and Rare Angels as a gift to someone because I knew I'd get more copies another day, but I never got them again.. I'm really looking for Spirit Tour tapes where she sang Carnivore.. I miss that song to death.. For only being 16, I thought I would have a lot on my hands, but I had so many offers to help, it's unbeliveable. I'm so excited that this thing might just happen! Second, we are looking for a time and place to set up a meeting for anyone interesed in helping out with this task. Please mail me if you would be interested in attending. Hello Angels, Broke though I am, my girlfriend surprised me with two 8th row tickets to Jewel's show at the Puyallup Fair this morning! There I was figuring I'd have to wait till I had restocked the fridge and cleared rent and she does this for me! Anyway, thanks to all who responded to my request for Angelfood before. But here's another one: Anyone have something with "Ohio" on it? I've come to love this song from the VH1 show and was wondering if Jewel had ever played it again. I would not know, my collection of Angelfood being severely lacking beyond 1996. Anyway, any help would be appreciated. So, any plans for an EDA type thing for the Fair show?
