The DVD was out, so I got the tape.. But, I just wanted to say I thought it was very well-done and the acting was superb.. I wouldn't give it any Oscars or anything, but it was a pleasant surprise.. Jewel did well and portrayed Sue Lee Shelley Chiles Evans Dutchie whatever genuinely.. The movie started out somewhat...not boring, but it didn't keep my attention very well.. It was uphill from there though.. Well, I can't tell y'all anything new that you can't find from the 6 million reviews compiled at rotten-tomatoes.com, but I just wanted to say that it's definitely worth renting or purchasing.. I know I plan on buying the DVD as soon as possible.. PS -- I think Jewel looked more stunning in that movie than I've ever seen before.. The lack of makeup was well for her; she glowed.. I got home , popped some popcorn and put it in, well let me say this first, i was expecting a war movie so i was preparing myself for a "history lesson" sorry if this sounds harsh but SHEESH!..for anyone who doesnt remotely like war movies or old west kinda movies this movie may be a little waning, I was waiting and waiting for jewel to pop up yet she never did, it wasnt till like 75% of the movie was over till she came in and basically all the scenes that are jeweless pretty much just stagnate across the screen....boring boring mindless dribble about bushhalkers and crapwackers and other funny phrases like that LOL(just my opinion) but anyway, jewel is soo good when she does appear on screen, shes kinda a "wham bam thank you maam" kinda loose girl but hey thats her part and anyways , the way the movie portrays it thats just about all girls had to do back then. ok well anyway, the movie is worth watching it just may be wise to fast forward through a couple of the hundreds of war scenes they have :0) just some thoughts from my lil head :oP sorry if i offended any history buffs in here :) luvs you all!. ~~ Wesllow~~ -the Redstick Indigo Angel- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Jul 2000 02:32:20 EDT From: FolkChick69@aol.com Subject: * geetar ive been playin for a month or so (guitar) and im startin to learn morning song. Seeing how im out of a job right now, due to unfortunate curcumstances, i used my last 10 dollars to rent the movie and get lunch. So i wasnt in the best mood to watch this kind of movie anyway. I am going to school for compehensive social studies, so i was not only excited that jewel was in it, but because of the history as well. But i was quite surprised when i saw how gory the movie was. I mean i expected a little blood shed, but this was kinda rediculous. Needless to say, My lunch wasnt all that applealing after the 4th battle seen. Especially after jake and his arm. Oi! So, i was kinda appalled at the whole thing. Jewel did an amazing job, and it was nice to see her in such a different roll. Wasnt her hair pretty? So, anyway, I might finish watching the end today, seeing how i had to turn it off yesterday. I was at a wedding shower yesterday, and the bride was saying that they had just finished making a all the plans of the cereamony, and because the bride's sister had not been practicing the song, Ave Marie, She decided to use the Jewel version instead, because it is so very beautiful. and the Bride's mother was commenting about how she cried the first time she heard it and how it doesn't even sould like Jewel. It just made me happy to hear that someone was playing Jewel on their special day. ttfn Sara the Angel who needs to finish her painting before Aug 19! - --- "Wouldn't know what to do with another chance if you gave it to me, I couldn't take the embrace of a real romance it'd race right through me, I'm much better off the way things are, much much better off and better by far." ~Fiona Apple http://homepages.go.com/~mysteriousraven/door.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Jul 2000 13:47:32 EDT From: "Jupiter Orbiting" Subject: * NJC: New Artists http://www2.hollywoodandvine.com/hvjukebox/girlsvideo.asp?ContentTypeID=1&Cl ubID=0&TranSpeedTypeID=4&MediaAttributeID=4&TrackID=867&Single=1 These are the artists featured on The Girl's Room Tour (equivalent is Lilith Fair), that is touring right now. I must say that when their albums come out, I will be the first in line. The headliners in the show are Tara MacLean, Kendall Payne, Amy Correia, and Shannon McNally. I listened to all of their videos on the site listed above, and they are wonderful. Equivalents: (in my opinion) Tara MacLean - Jewel Kendall Payne - ?Sheryl Crow? Aimee: You're just looking for a catfight! Read my lyrics when I was 23 and you'll find I didn't write lyrics any better than she writes poetry. But people are buying it, so somebody likes it....however naive--or whatever assessment you want to make of Jewel and her poetry--she's the one with the $2 million....When does great art ever get its monetary due? It never happens. Whatever. I can't get that worked up about it. She's fine. She's great. She's beautiful. She has a great voice. She's perfect. She has barefoot moments in more than one of her film-clips, I'll bet she associates the feeling of being barefoot with the feeling of grass under her feet, freedom and youth. Also like her hands, her feet are exceptionally beautiful. I am a barefooter and really appreciate this aspect of Jewel, among the other many. If you like going barefoot, or are interested in other people's reasons for doing so, check out www.barefooters.org There are members world-wide of this online barefooter's club, and heaps of medical facts on the benefits of not wearing shoes. :o) Cheers Janadell *^*^*^*the barefoot angel*^*^*^* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Jul 2000 20:31:56 -0500 From: Jason Bartel Subject: * A Question for Mr. BB about Jewel's Reading list Hi All, I was wondering if Mr BB. or one of the elder EDAs ;-) could post a list of the books that Jewel has read and found inspiration in. I know she's read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and Plato's "The Symposium". I was wondering what other titles she has read that may have shaped how she sees the world. Jason ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Jul 2000 02:36:33 GMT From: "Magno Elento, Jr." Subject: * NJC: A Personal Note on Music July 17, 2000 A PERSONAL NOTE ON MUSIC: Music has an important role in the development of the human race. It is a potent force present in the world since the beginning of time. Certainly it is one of the greatest art forms which have come to existence. People can not live without art. It is one of the essences of life. Music is an art. An Art related to words, poetry and sound. Thus, music is a beautiful thing -- something to be appreciated and to be indulged in. I now find music. And had embraced it and its elements. I have embraced music and I have accepted it for what it really is. Everything that it is ought to be. Music will always be a part of my life, even though I wasn't granted a beautiful voice. Even though I was not blessed with that supreme musical talent, I still have the power to appreciate music in all its forms. I still have the power to promote and preserve it for ages to come. I'll pass on my love for music to the next generations that will replace those who are fading away in life. They will be the ones to continue the quest for art preservation and development. Music will develop and continue to grow until the end of time. Until such time that eternity is present, music will always be there -- forever. MY LOVE OF MUSIC AND VIEWS ON MUSIC ARTISTS: Anyway, I just want to say that I love music and I will do a LOT to contribute to its development and sustenance in the course of life itself. I respect all artists and their music. I believe that everyone is doing their thing and that I shouldn't fuss myself too much on bringing them down or putting restrictions around them. I'll just let them express themselves creatively, not destructively, and that's it. I think that being an artist/recording artist is a hard job since you'll experience late nights, all those hectic schedules, no sleep and lots of physical, mental and emotional torture. But the fact that there are people willing to express themselves in front of big audiences touches me. Being an artist requires hard work, sheer determination, self-confidence, self-esteem and all those optimistic virtues. I think these artists have come a LONG WAY. I also think that all music artists may come and shine bright and then suddenly fade away. I think that's the natural course of life. Well, I think these artists should be practical, too. They should invest their money in banks and accounts while they're still famous and if their flame dies out, then it's time for them to get to business or something, just to keep up with the lifestyle, right? Anyway, that's just a silly thought of mine! I hope and pray that these artists, even if their famous, will still keep their dignities intact and try to keep their feet on the ground. I hope that fame will not make them haughty creatures of humanity. They should remember that fame is not the road to true happiness. What matters most, after all, is love for God and love for fellow man. Only if we have learned to love and be loved shall we be completely happy. Also, I believe that music artists, even if they fade away, will always reign in the people's hearts for all time. It will be remembered that even just for a time, a talented musician has played his/her part in the preservation and development of music. Every generation has its own musician. It will be remembered and written in the history of mankind that these music artists have continuously inspired and influenced us throughout the ages. Anyway, LONG LIVE MUSIC! KUDOS TO THE ARTISTS, AND TO EVERYONE WHO'VE DEDICATED THEIR TIME, WORK AND LIVES TOWARD THE PROMOTION AND GLORIFICATION OF MUSIC AND THE SUCCESS OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE!!!
