I wanted to be famous. Whether it be a famous singer, or writer... or whatever, it is because of this (what Lori said) that I no longer want to be famous. I can't have a private life if I was famous. People who call themselves "fans" can be so unappreciative and demanding. I don't wanna tour around the world for 6 months doing endless concerts and TV shows and Interviews. Because as soon as I actually get some real relaxation in, its "I want a new album, Cymbie!!!! Give me a new album!!!! Your famous, you don't need to rest! You just need to satisfy ME, ME, ME! Forget about you, what about MY needs?!" I challenge any one of you to become famous, and not feel the need to have a few months off from everything, after you work your arse off for nearly 4 years straight, with the exception of actually have ONE WEEK off out of the year, if even that much. I used to dream about being famous.... and now, I don't even want to imagine myself being famous. Yuck. Jewel says she has enough money to retire. Y'all who beg for new music are sure lucky she don't retire, cause y'all would be *really* disappointed you didn't get any new music at *all* Peace, Love and Happiness, Cymbaline ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 17:51:10 -0700 From: "Sandy" Subject: * Re: Aphrodite Venus is the > Roman Mythology equivalent of Aphrodite... The Roman's stole all the Greek gods and > goddesses and gave them different names I actually wasn't aware that they were "stolen", I knew there were similiarities between them, but I've never actually heard the stolen part :) I think someone did mention that before as well! ... I guess it makes more > sense to use Venus when you're singing of Jupiter... ;^) Besides... Could > you imagine... Aphrodite in her half baked shell? Sure... It'd work... But > that's just odd... *shrugs* Oh well... heh > It does make sense. Although I'm sure you wouldn't think it odd, if that was the way the line had always been :) I was just commenting that with all this info getting boggled around, I found that article about Aphrodite, and someone had said it was Venus. Although the "stolen" theory means they are the same, and I'm not at all sure about this, but wouldn't Venus have been born a different way still, since they made up their own legends regarding the Gods? (even if they stole the the actual character). If so, all I meant by pointing it out was that she probably wasn't refering to that myth, but rather a combination of the painting and statue, which she possibly might have just mixed the two up. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 17:44:11 -0700 From: "Sandy" Subject: * Re: It's a bird, it's a plane...no..it's..*SuperJewel* I just wanted to say Lori is 100% right. Jewel is not a superhuman. Whether or not she "over toured" herself is a matter of opinion, I suppose. I do agree with Lori there as well. The whole "25 year old getting burned out after a little less than 90 shows". Have you ever played 90 shows? Do you know how tiring it is to travel around, to a different city every day, do a magazine interview at 7 in the morning, photo shoot for the interview at 10, a little break, go tape the Leno show, then go and perform a concert, grab a few hours of sleep, and off to the next city in the morning? and you expect her to be able to write new material, record new records, and donate her time and money to charity on top of that. How can you possibly act like that not is not physically, not to mention, mentally draining? As a regular human being she needs time off, she needs to rest, spend time with her family, and her boyfriend, and do those little things she loved when she was a child like riding horses. Who doesn't appreciate a vacation? and if you could take a vacation from your regular job for months without fear of going broke, wouldn't you? I think if you really take a look at the facts, you can see this is just silly. I mean, I would *love* for Jewel to come out with a new album, but by no means do I want it if she is not prepared to record another one. If she came out with a new album everytime we wanted one, they wouldn't be *what* we want. They'd be mediocre efforts by someone who is just tired of everything in the music business, yet still giving out because it's something *you* want, and unable to tap their creativity because of this exhaustion. She is able to take this time off for herself, and I don't think she's being selfish in doing so. If seems if you are willing to let this bother you so much, that you aren't really interested in Jewel, but just her music. That's fine, I'm sure a lot of people could care less about the person behind the music, but if you take one second to think of her like a normal human being, you can see that you're being overly harsh. This is giving her a time to get back to writing like she used, in her innerchange days, when she didn't have the pressures of the music business. Those days are days that I, and many others, are rather fond of. Her music was so pure and from the heart back then, and if she needs to take some time away from the filth of the industry in order to get back to that place, then so be it. Hypothetically, what if she went through a "writers block" after the drain from the tour, and she can't *help* not bringing out another album because she doesn't have material. You wouldn't blame her for that. Truthfully, she probably couldn't even bring herself to write for a while after the tour because she needed a break from it all together. That's not proven fact, but a possible situation, and very probable in my opinion. Obviously she is still interested in her music, we just heard two new songs - stephenville and violet eyes - that proves she's not tossing her music aside. Who are we to judge what she should and shouldn't be doing with her time? If any of you have bothered to read this far, I'm sorry it was so long, but keeping your feelings locked up inside is no good, and I felt I had to get it out, whether anyone pays attention or not!!!! :) ~<3~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 21:04:08 -0400 (EDT) From: Lori A Bonari <7lab2@qlink.queensu.ca> Subject: * Re: It's a bird, it's a plane...no..it's..*SuperJewel* > As a regular human being she needs time off, she needs to rest, spend >time with her family, and her boyfriend, and do those little things she >loved when she was a child like riding horses. Thanks so much for your post. Jewel writes about life, love, etc...how can she do that if she can't have time out for herself to experience and be inspired?? If she's drained and tired..what will her new album be about....wanting rest? She has the opportunity to take some time off, which is probably what most of us *dream* of doing...so why shouldn't she: because her fans want a new album? It'll definately come across in the album if she were to get into writing without having some time to herself first.. She's spent most of her time on planes hopping from city to city, and that must be taxing on a person. She just needs some time to live and experience more things to write about... I know i'm just fueling the argument, but hey, it's a discussion list and I just wanted to add that I totally agreed with the above comment (i believe it was Sandy who said it). You're so right on the mark with that one... let the poor girl have some family/boyfriend/alone time. God knows she works hard enough to keep us all happy Lori ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #218 ***************************
