She's probably using metaphors there, like when someone says you're in a shell, they mean you are shy. I'm almost sure that's what she meant. She releases three albums and then decides that it's time to move on to other things? Hopefully when she gets all of her side projects out of her system, she'll start focusing on her music again. ********************************************************************** I took one look at this and all that went through my head was oh no.. here we go again.. im going to try to be polite as some didnt hear (even though i dont know how you could miss it unless your new) our previous convo of this a few months ago. OK HERE WE GO! Jewe is taking a mere break to explore other options so that she doesnt follow the 21 century version of the american dream, which is find what you love, exploit it for all its worth until it kills you. Creativity is easy to drain if you take it too quick. most people i know who are artists, of any kind take a break from what ever they were doing to try other things. for a while there i didnt write for almost a year, and learned to play guitar in that time. I think that it has made me an even beter writer. Jewel will come back to us in the music format.. there are lots of songs left in her eyes.. you can see them. and i wouldnt count on the movie thing being just a phase. she did a good job on that movie and i would love to see her in another. take for example.. whitney houston. a lot of her albums were released as soundtracks, and yet... years later, she came back with a non-soundtrack album and somehow still sold a ton of them. a little stronger, a little more knowledgable. Jewel will come back.. you can see it in her eyes. And even if she doesnt.. look how much she has left us with... over 500 songs.. some of which will take a lifetime to find. im still trying to find a copy of Jessica.. but alas... my life quest. (yaaaaay!)anyways, email me privately if you're interested. becca the beach angel or the rollerblading angel which do you guys like better? let me know! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 20:40:49 +0200 From: "michiel - the dutch jewelfan - van gorkum" Subject: * Feedback on my new site design hello Jewelfans, I was hoping that any of you want to help me with my rebuilding of the Jewel Impala - dutch tribute site . At this url you can find my new design for the dedicated dutch Jewel site http://www.jewelkilcher.myweb.nl/index2.html I would love to ask you to give you feedback on my site and if you like the way i am designing it now. Already much thanks eda's -) Greetings Michiel a dutch Jewelfan who has hope Jewel will surprise us soon with one new project -) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 16:03:32 -0700 From: "Mary Olmos" Subject: * SJC: Attn: Aussie EDA's! Steve Poltz played Java Joe's in San Diego this past weekend. On the first night, Joe had a CD playing between sets where the band did covers of the Rugburns "Lockjaw" and "I Thought I Saw You Last Night" and an unreleased song by Anya Marina and Steve....it sounded pretty good, actually at first everyone thought it was Jewel singing. Anyway...they announced that the band, "Aussie Youth", is from Australia and the CD is to be released very soon. Does anyone from "down under" know anything else about the band or the CD? I would like to get a copy when it is released..thanks! Mary ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 14:24:26 -0700 From: "The wise and powerful Chuckman" Subject: * If you've ever been inspired by Jewel Hey angels, If you've ever wanted a chance to show Jewel what kind of effect she has had on you, or what you've done as a result of her inspiration, you may want to read the following. It's about a group called Jewel's Fools (double meaning) and as far as I can tell it's our best hope so far. JEWEL'S FOOL'S: The basic primis of what we are trying to accomplish is to create some way for people who have been inspired by Jewel to be able to show others what it is that they have created. So, in whatever medium the person Jewel has inspired has created (music, poetry, painting, writing, or whatever) we'd like to devise some way of allowing people to share it with others so that they might inspire others, and have a similar effect that Jewel's art has had on us. (If you follow me.) So, to that end, some of the ways we've been pursuing that goal include: A website: Where people who have poetry etc can post their stuff, and other Jewel fans and people in general can find it. Also chat rooms and stuff will allow Jewel fans to form a community etc. Plus links to other cool sites etc will help save time and find the places the real fans enjoy. A book: Hopefully, when the site is sucessful we can publish a book that is sort of 'the greatest hits' of the site. Right now I am thinking it would have one work from various fans, and would include little bios about the author. This would hopefully get more people to the site and maybe do some cross advertising for the artist that are in the book so if they publish stuff and people like what they saw they could find it. A convention: The idea would be to have like a main stage and a lot of booths at some convention center. People could do little concerts on the stage, and others could display their art work in the booths as 'customers' walk around taking it all in. Hopefully we could convince Jewel to stop by and do a free song, that would get a lot of attention and fans into the event. A TV show: We are trying to pitch a show to VH1 that revolves around what artists have inspired their fans to do. Hopefully we could then have members perform songs and poetry readings etc, and simply have a huge audience to express all the things Jewel has caused by being so inspiring. It would also mention things like Higher Ground for Humanity and stuff, but hopefully it would be about letting the fans contribute. The show itself would probably rotate various artist, and they'd do reviews of their fan's performance. I.E. what they liked about it etc. Anyways, that is a brief overview of what is going on so far. We are always looking for new ideas/suggestions or any connections you might have to offer. Most important is that we need people who have art that they want to share. Poetry, music, whatever. In the few weeks I've been on this list I've been able to see a lot of talent and inspiration already, so I know it's out there. If this sounds like something you are interested in pursuing, please let me know. If you'd like to flame the idea or myself, your oppinion counts to, let me know. We are in the process of constructing the website (the person doing it broke her wrist, and the process is slow) to start. If you'd like to respond via eda's please use the subject: JEWEL'S FOOLS. I'll forward it to the other non-eda's. Please don't be bashful, tell me what you think. Thanks for your time, and reading it all the way through. :) The reason this began: "People look at me in magazines and feel like I'm a phenomenon, as if what I've accomplished is beyond their ability. I tell them to knock it off. If you respect what I've done, then do something yourself." - -Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 20:18:52 -0400 From: "Amanda" Subject: * Jewel's plans I was just wondering if anyone actually pays attention to the JeweLink? They had a question and answer with Nedra. She said... Jewel is finishing her book, and considering some movie roles. If she doesnt find anything she likes or is interested in... she will start on another Album. So, yeah, some people spenf their entire life writing... that is their life choice.. and yet you (nameless eda) are disappointed because that is ALL she is doing? but yet she is thinkin about a whole new movie? and a future cd? come on... if you only had 3 off days in a whole year, suffered from walking pnumonia for MONTHS endlessly doing concerts tv shows and interviews.. wouldnt you like a few months to focus, regain energy, get healthy, and write new material? and maybe have a real normal (well as normal as it oculd be) life with your boyfriend? Yeah Give her time, and a little credit huh? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 04:32:18 EDT From: DeitysJuel@aol.com Subject: * Re: NJC: venus de milo I knew it wasnt michaelangelo! I asked someone, silly me, should have referenced my classical art texts instead. Nonetheless, as far as I can recall it is speculated that the birth of Venus was painted based upon the Venus De milo (which was actually on Melos, not milos), which is why it is referenced so often as such. For all interested you can see the sculpture of the Venus de milo at http://www.louvre.fr/louvrea.htm in the 1-3rd century greek sculptures (as a sidenote, It is not merely the painting that inspired such I feel, for in all the ancient greek myths she was borne on a shell floating on seafoam, which was Botticellis reason for painting such.) For those who would like to see the botticelli "The Birth of Venus" it can be found at this site. http://www.uffizi.firenze.it/Dipinti/botveneE10.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 22:16:59 EDT From: ERINSN00PY@aol.com Subject: * Why is everyone jumping on this poor girl?? Hi angels, I am a little frustrated with some of you right now and Ill tell you why.... all that Girl did when she wrote in about "what has jewel been doing" was stating her opinion. I dont think that there is anything wrong with wanting your favorite artist to give you some fuel ( ie..new material). I have been getting such a bad vibe from this group recently. How long have we all been stuck on her post??How important is it??. Instead of bombarding the list with passive aggressive letters, why dont you just laugh and let it go??This should be a list where people shouldn't be afraid to speak there own mind, and should be able to trust that they wont treated as if "they just don't get jewel or understand do they." If I was that girl, I would be afraid to write in ever again for fear that everyone would treat me as if im stupid.LET IT GO. Let her speak her peace. Don't we all deserve that much?
