She seems to be very content writing and singing for herself, and it just so happens that some people enjoy it too. But mainly, I think her work is for her, and if it wasn't, she wouldn't do it. I mean, she obviously wants to share her morals and beliefs with us (fans collectively, not just EDAs), but I also believe that if it held no personal meaning to her, she just wouldn't do it any longer. I ask you all to open up "ANWA" to page 6, the poem entitled "You Tell Me." Read down to line 18...there it is in a nutshell for everyone...she says that even though we endure thankless jobs (a lot of us do), we still do what we love doing because there is someone out there who appreciates it somewhere, and eventually everyone who has these thankless "jobs" will come together and be strong and light the way for the people we are working to help. Does anyone agree with my interpretation of the poem? I am not being selfish here people - but let's face it - this music already IS accessible to the free world. It's on the web - and not just on Angel food tapes. Albeit if the quality is dodgy - THEY ARE RECORDINGS FROM CONCERTS. There are some recordings (VH1 Storytellers comes to mind) that are pretty much CD quality. Okay - misquoted again: I said that I don't care if other people don't get Jewel or don't see that Jewel is multi faceted. Do I care that she is underappreciated, not really - as long as there is media there will be misrepresentation. And I feel that she is appreciated (save some silly critic from CD-NOW) - for her music, her ethic & her commendable efforts with Higher Ground for Humanity. However, I think that many of these unreleased songs WOULD be under appreciated. I was also talking to another EDA re: this same issue - perhaps Jewel won't want to revisit these songs. After all, many of them are very folk - and I think that Jewel is definitely trying to move away from that at the moment - more rock-type songs (more suited to a band situation) & rich ballads that she can play alone. I think in this case Rachel, you have taken me the wrong way. And I definitely object to you referring to me as selfish. And I certainly don't languish in my EDA-ness and think I'm a cut above. What crap! EDA is just a label for a personal philosophy that I happen to share. I do believe though that we all have the power of the divine & the ability to make a difference. I realise that not every Jewel fan will be part of this mailing list. But can they type J-E-W-E-L into a search engine? As I said, Jewel's unreleased music IS AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE (who has access to the web anyway). Whether or not they get off their bums to find it - well, that's up to them isn't it. Anyway, I must have caught you on an off day. I'm not exactly sure why it bothered you so. If you return to my e-mail and READ it, I'm sure you will see that I meant no harm. I've only been part of the EDAs since November last year and i've found it INCREDIBLY easy to get angelfood. All the angels i've dealt with have been great!! Some of them have even sent me extra presents *grin* (ie sending me an extra bit of angelfood that i didn't ask them for). So, for everyone who has sent me angelfood - thanks you guys!!!! Deity- you'll just have to move to New Zealand LOL... the EDAs here are really really nice - we are always happy to dub stuff for each other. If you get desperate you can always ask me to dub some angelfood for ya :) It's just probably lot's easier (postage wise) to deal with EDA's in your own country. Try asking people again - i'm sure there's gotta be generous EDAs in the States... I think anyone can play that one :) Emily is not to hard either. Anything off of the official albums is a bit trickier but isnt too hard technically. The hard part about playing any music written by Jewel is putting the feeling into it. I mean lets face it, these songs arent technical masterpieces but you have to play every note with heart and that is really hard sometime. Anyway, enough rambling, look up some of the TABS and have at it And good luck learning to play the guitar, its a beautiful instrument. I think that the diversity of people makes the definition EDA difficult. But I agree that many take the name without much actual devotion to the original ideals. When was the last shore cleanup or encouragement to work at a homeless kitchen? there may be less bickering, but it is still mostly "I need" comments or "did you see jewel on" which, naturally there is nothing wrong with, yet lets start gettting it back in perspective...Being An EDA is not merely being a jewel fan, but maintaining innocence, and promoting the divinity of charity. I must apologise for some confusion at this point,"the first request I made was sent in a circle ending with "OH! I thought..." was not connected to Dung, rather the first time I tried to get angelfood in futility. Heres an Idea! I am going to hitch to bearsville and have some downtime until, I will compensate my time to get angelfood I.E. I will come to your town and and deliver the tapes personally to trade, No bother about mailing it, just meeting and recording. I wonder if anyone will actually take me up on trades now... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 06:53:31 EDT From: Giggly1021@aol.com Subject: * Re: lazy EDAs/and to release... >Numerous times I have requested Angelfood from various EDAs, on list and off. >Apparently I do not have enough myself to concern the individuals with. I thought you wanted the original >tapes"(why someone would think this is beyone me) but mostly, there is just >no response...I think many EDAs might not have room to argue here if they >arent willing to share the wealth so to speak. I've had a similar problem. Not from everyone, most people whom I've asked have helped me. But I've had some problems which leave me afraid to send any more tapes. Someone (I lost they're e-mail address when AOL deleted my messages) offered to make a copy of Innerchange Days. I sent off my tapes, with the proper return postage, and have not heard anything from them. This was back in fall of '99. I've also had people send me the wrong tapes, so I have doubles (which I donated to a non EDA Jewel Fan, Yes, They do exist) and still don't have Jewelstock tape 2. And then there are those who make an offer and don't respond. At least tell the person who asks that you're too busy or too many people have requested. It doesn't have to be a personal email. Send one message to all who asked. So we're not left hanging. And now for the unreleased stuff: 1. I would love to have cd quality angelfood. CD's are more convenient and they sound much better. 2. We are not the only Jewel fans. Maybe we know a little more than the average fan. But we were like them once. If someone leaves the list, does it mean they stop being a fan? No, of course not. Maybe they're just too busy to keep up. If you doubt the existence of other fans, look around you at a concert. They too are Jewel fans. Maybe not as educated on the many facets of Jewel(no pun intended), but they are still fans. Don't they deserve to see the many sides of Jewel? 3. I have a friend who loves Jewel, she knows about the list, but hasn't joined. Why? Because she only has computer access while at school. And studying and friends are more important than Jewel, as they should be. Don't get me wrong, I love Jewel, but friends are more important. Yes, you can make friends on this list. But not everyone does. I haven't. Back to my main point. EVERYONE DOES NOT HAVE A COMPUTER OR INTERNET ACCESS. I know it sounds hard to believe, but it's true. I've only had computer access for about a year, and I don't own a computer. One was at my parent's house, the one I use now belongs to my boyfriend. 4. My last point, I promise. And if you're still not convinced, think of EDAs outside of the US. I'm sure there are many who don't have any angelfood, or very little. As Jewel's fan base expands, trading changes. I'm almost positive that when angelfood began, there where tape trees, ensuring high quality copies. Most of my angelfood is a copy of a copy of a copy. At some point there are going to be too many people who want copies and not enough people willing to make tapes. So if the unreleased songs are released, it would be a good thing. For lots of people other than just the EDAs. Yes, I love knowing more songs than the average fan, but I want others to have the opportunity to hear other things. But I agree with whoever suggested dropping the overproduced sound. If these songs are released, they should be in the style of angelfood without all the background noise. - -Kerri (I guess you could call me the rambling angel) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Jul 2000 19:26:37 CEST From: "Kenneth Karstens" Subject: * Cranes? She is 100% right. If any fan goes surfing through Jewel fansites, they are bound to findout about Jewel's unreleased material, whether it be by noticing someone has lyrics for unreleased songs, and looking for themselves for mp3's or real audio of them, or by just stumbling across some pages that have real audio feed or mp3's. Even if they are just a "little" bit of a Jewel fan, it's really really easy for them to find out about and get her unreleased stuff. ~<3~ Sandy Lost in Heaven ~ http://fly.to/~heaven Chasing a Rainbow...A Jewel Kilcher Site ~ http://www.geocities.com/angelofluv.geo/index2.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Jul 2000 20:41:41 -0400 From: MrBB Subject: * MrBB: Jewel in "Stand And Be Counted" Hi all, I'll usually be providing all Jewel related TV info in JeweLink and on Jewel's website calendar, but I wanted to make an exception for this because it's a project that began several years ago and some of the EDA's who've been around for awhile, may remember me posting about it way back in 1997. David Crosby, well known for his musical adventures with The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young began an awareness raising film and book project back in 1997 called "Stand And Be Counted". The focus of this project is to educate young people about social activism in music. Jewel was filmed for inclusion in this documentary and this footage will now see the light of day on The Learning Channel next month. "Stand And Be Counted" will be broadcast in two parts on The Learning Channel on Tuesday August 22 and Wednesday August 23. I don't have broadcast times yet, but I will be adding that info to the website calendar and in JeweLink with plenty of time to spare, so not to worry. I think many of you will find this documentary very interesting and may like to mark your calendars. Have a great weekend!
