Hi guys, My my, it's been a while since I have posted...anyhow, I would say that you guys are over-analyzing what Amy said. I don't think she was being quite serious. With all do respect to everyone, please lay off it. I mean, I see the similarities but she was probably just wondering and her tonality in the email did not seem malicious. I think everyone should just simma' down now! oops! sorry, that's a line from Saturday Night Live!... In response to the controversy over Jewel "stealing lines" from other's literary works...dont worry motha, it'll be alright...Jewel is within legal boundaries as far as "a night without armor" is concerned...in case you failed to notice, in case you failed to see, Jewel credits the authors/artists from whom she borrowed words/ideas including Dylan Thomas, Rumi, Yeats, Neruda, Bukowsky, Paz, among others...so long as she's covered her bases as far as giving them props, she's cool. I submitted some poetry to the "Windy Hill Review", a publication funded by my college...my creative writing prof said to avoid plageurism, I had to credit the author/artist from whom I borrowed ideas...good thing cuz i submitted some poems with an idea or five from Jewel (to whom i stated i was "interminably indebted")...that's all - -aka YES the everyotherday angel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jun 2000 07:53:33 EDT From: JewelK512@gateway.net Subject: * Jewel Tabs Has anyone noticed that when you play the tabs for Who Will Save Your Soul and You Were Meant for Me, they sound the same? Why is that? Is it supposed to be like that? Can someone help? I know that I never meant any harm, it just seemed that Amy seemed surprised that Jewel would do this and I was attempting to justify it with my quote from Lesley Choyce. As a poet myself (at least I try to be) I understand the need and the inspiration that fellow poets can give. By no means was I criticizing what Amy said. I was moreso reinforcing the fact that it's okay for Jewel to do that sort of stuff.. that's all. And from what I've read it seems that most other people have done the same thing.. Thanks. Jewel got a lot more screen time than I thought - - and her potential acting prowess is certainly very apparent... although I must say that the breastfeeding scene did embarrass me a bit :).. but it was in good taste and I didnt have a problem with it - although I wonder how Jewel felt having to take on such an important role in her first movie appearance (as far as I know anyway). Anyway I recommend to anyone who has not seen the movie to go and see it - it's a really great movie. Full credit to Ang Lee for such a great film. The scenery, the camera angles, the actors... it was all superb and although I believe it deserved a lot more attention (a HELL of a lot more attention), I think it will send a lot more scripts Jewel's way. Maybe for each CD she does she can do a movie too :) well.. maybe every two CD's.. I'd hate for the novelty of her appearing in movies to wear thin on me.. ah huh.. like that's going to happen :) Take care angels! I'm a Canadian so I figured I'd miss out on it because we don't have PBS. Turns out we have a Canadian version of PBS that I never knew about (PBC.. how appropriate). So here I am flipping through the channels after work while I'm making dinner and there's Jewel! I must have turned it on just in time because she started talking about living in Texas (I had read the quote in a post when ACL first aired) and then she sang Stephenville (finally i can put music to those lyrics!) and Break Me.. wow. Jewel is such a beauty.. I am so impressed. Anyway I'm so excited so I thought I'd let you all know.. I just wish I had a VCR in my kitchen! Grr. Bye!
