EDA's, I just came back from Radio Shack..and let me tell you, it was awesome! What was even better....i was the only one there. hehe. So I got to take every poster they had, even the poster in the window, and the guy that worked there recorded me a copy. So I'm willing to make some trades for the poster(s) and the concert on tape. (i'm only going to be copying a few tapes, since it takes a lot of work for me). Mail me privately if interested in trading for some Angelfood.(i don't have much, i need to expand!) -John *The happy angel* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 23:58:42 EDT From: DeitysJuel@aol.com Subject: * Popcorn and an autographed poster! Wasnt it breathlessly bewondering? I loved how she made shadows merge in WSIT, and her extended scat cat in WWSYS, I got only two posters, for the first was enough to know she still loves me (thank you beloved). As you may have been able to tell by the header, it had an autograph though not personalised:(, still she was as enamouring as ever and though Love me leave me alone was biting, I am happy to know it again. My only regret is that the Radio shack would not tape it for me, but such is policy. Happily I got to see all the guys in the band again, its been too long I think, how they have all changed! Ah well, I hope you all saw your wishes fufillment, for certainly you saw mine:) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 21:00:18 -0700 (PDT) From: "Joe P. Does this mean it was a tape and not a broadcast or does their > tvs just work differently? > Hi , Greg & All . I did some radio-shack-hopping , and at the first one I went to down the street , their satellite receiver was out-of-order , And They Were Indeed Playing A VHS Tape of the Concert , instead of a direct satellite feed ! I tried to buy the tape or give them a $20 deposit to borrow it overnight , but they said they couldn't . I got a couple of posters and packs of popcorn . And that tape of the concert DID NOT INCLUDE Violet Eyes ! (and -maybe- not Stephensville , either ) . I got out of there and went to the Radio Shack in the next town , to find that they had a satellite feed , and it was repeating the concert 8-9 . I got a "goody bag " and another poster . Finally , I went to one last R.S. in a mall ( open a half-hour later ) , and managed to catch the first part of the concert ( 9-9:30 ) that I had missed at the first store . It was THERE That I Saw and Heard Violet Eyes [ which wasn't on the tape at the first location ] ... It was quite beautiful , but unfortunately it started at 9:28 ( 28 minutes into the concert ) , So I Had To Miss Half Of It ! :-( [ because store was closing ] Oh well ... It was quite a wonderful performance by Jewel and band , and I enjoyed the special duet with Jewel & Steve P. I also thought the camera people did a Great Job ! Could the powers that be , on this list , kindly request that Radio Shack make this concert available on VHS and DVD ... ? That would be wonderful ! :-) Take care . --Joe http://www.egroups.com/group/Folk-Rock ===== folk_rock@yahoo.com My Home Page --Currently on KOSOVO , etc. : http://www.geocities.com/joeshenk ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 09 Jun 2000 13:59:47 EST From: "Anthony Campbell" Subject: * article from Rollingstone.com on hudson theatre performance Ok I saw this article on the desktopdollars ad banner and thought - wow cool, they're mentioning a Jewel thing.. normally they just have krud all over it.. for example they've got a thing on Eminem being charged for assaulting someone with a shotgun or something like that.. anyway here's the article.. I hope it formats properly cause I've just come from an exam and am not in the mood to edit! Jewel Rocks Out in New York City 06/07/00 Though it might seem an unusual method to test out new material, Jewel took the stage Tuesday at New York's Hudson Theater to shoot her latest collection of songs for a promotional demonstration video. The concert will be used to display the audio and video quality of RCA's Digital Entertainment Center at RadioShack stores throughout June. It also served to launch the fall cable series Music in High Places, which the two companies are sponsoring. "I think they only got me because Sting couldn't do it," Jewel joked. "But I love doing shows where people don't have to pay anything." After a twenty-minute warm-up performance by Lyle Lovett, Jewel took the stage with a full band (including her one-time beau and co-songwriter Steve Poltz on guitar) and rushed through her earlier, softer material before getting to what she really wanted to work on -- her newer, huskier songs. Some, she said, weren't completely finished, joking that she would have to write the final verse to one as she sang it. Referencing her past few months living in Stevensville, Tex., Jewel made it clear that she intended to roughen up her sound with a bit of heartland rock. The newer songs, played during the later half of her set, at times made the former folkie sound schooled in electric Dylan, Sheryl Crow and John Mellencamp. Yet she apologized for her vocals, passing her richer voice off as a sore throat ("Excuse the high notes, please," she said at one point). But she was clearly able to overcome that, shrieking and wailing with an intensity she hasn't often shown in the past. She even scat-sang along with her band mate's guitar, matching it note for note despite difficult octave changes, during a loose and rowdy version of "Who Will Save Your Soul." Her songs, though always seemingly intimate, were also clearly autobiographical and deeply personal this time around as well. "No one has heard this before, except my friends," she said when introducing one song about a friend's slow death from cancer (the working title is "Violet Eyes"). "It's hard to write things that are close to me. I've always tended to write things that sound personal, when they're not. But this is." In addition to modifying her songwriting style, Jewel also said that she's been writing more about her life in short story form. She said her collection of short stories, to be called Chasing Down the Dawn -- which will be out by Christmas on Harper Collins -- was written while she was on tour last year, mostly during short bursts of insomnia late at night. "It's an odd book," she said. "It's not chronological, though it traces growing up to being homesick and other excerpts of my life. The focus changes. The tone really changes. There isn't one voice. It's not like there's a theme. It just goes from being very lyrical to very practical to very sad." "Writing to me is my most important thing," she added. "When I get sick of singing, I need to do something else that's fulfilling, so I write." JENNIFER VINEYARD (June 8, 2000) - ----------- That's it - hope you enjoyed it! Hi all, I just got home from the RS concert and let me tell you I came home with some goodies. My brother and I went to our local Radio Shack and watched the whole concert. We were the only ones so there was plenty of room. After the concert the two guys who were working, Jeff and Sean, gave us the bags and posters as they put for "standing up for a whole hour you deserve something." So I looked at the poster and said "Thanks, but can I have the big poster in the door?" They're like sure! So I get the poster July 1st. Then I asked the big question, "Since, it's reairing now in a loop, can I buy a video tape and record it?" They really didn't see how that be a problem. except we missed Lyle's 2 songs on the tape because we were trying to hook a VCR up the the feed. Once we got it started the picture was a little fuzzy. So I said that's ok, and I waited another hour until they closed and got my tape of the concert. The picture isn't great but the sound is wonderful. So I asked them if I could have some more popcorn or another poster and since no one else came in he gave me a total of 10 popcorns, and I'd say roughly around 50 or so posters. As they put it they wanted their boss to think that they gave out stuff all night. SO Here I am with 50 posters, a lot of popcorn, and a copy of the concert. I love Radio Shack. Thanks Jeff and Sean! I too was the only one to show up at my local radio shack for the concert... My experaince wasn't that great. The concert was WONDERFUL!!! I would have killed to have been there in person. She was great, relaxed and seemed to be in really great spirits... I fell in love with Violet Eyes from the very first, near the end of that song i was somewhere between three to five inches away from the speakers, to better hear it. And of course when she and Steve sang YWMFM together, the world just seem right (and i had my hand on my chin, in a thoughtful expression, hiding me singing along. =Þ ) The concert was great, but RS wasn't... I showed up, and the TVs were all on other things, and when the guy asked if he could help me I said that i was just there for the concert, and he turned around to the other guys (all four over the age of 55) and said something like "well, I guess we will have to turn it on after all.." And so i got to stand there by myself feeling kinda foolish, but enjoying the concert, listening to the employees comments (ex They call that singing?... 20 million albums, who would buy that many, and "who's that guy? I thought this was supposed to be Jewel?" (when Steve was singing with her) And so I ended up explaining who steve was, and how great he is, and how I am about three steps from worshiping the ground he walks on..etc and as for the twenty mil thing I explained that I had bought at least twenty of those twenty million (of course I have POY and Spirit on tape and cd, plus all the ones I've sent as gifts, etc)) ANYWAY, after the concert he did give me three popcorns, and two posters, but refused to give anymore... They had a BIG stack of them (prolly three inches thick) and I asked them what they were going to do with them, and he said prolly throw them out, but still woudn't give me more... Though he did say that if I came back later in the month maybe I could get more.... I thanked him, but I doubt I'll see anymore of them.. sorry guys.. Anyway, it really was a great concert... ya'll take care rowdy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Jun 2000 01:18:22 EDT From: Drake34@aol.com Subject: * Radio Shacks with VHS tapes.
