Hi all, Wow, I can't believe that it's exactly one year on Wed. since I landed in NYC during the beginning of a record heat wave!!! What a hectic, amazing and very-hard-to-top way to start a holiday. After touching down mid-afternoon and settling in at possibly the worst hotel in NYC, I attempted to catch a cab to the studio rehearsal for Storytellers. After walking 40 blocks I eventually succeeded in hailing a cab and arrived 45 minutes late. Well, what an introduction to the EDA's!! The first EDA that I met was a hyperactive guy with glasses who I correctly picked as the infamous Dennis Harris. Afterwards I met a number of other wonderful EDA's such as Amy Neufeld, Kelli Coppens, Abel, Chris Moynihan, Johnny, Eric Montas, Shawn, Mr BB, Lindsay Chute and her parents and a number of others whose faces are very clear but the names unfortunately escape my mind + many others who I met the following night at Storytellers, including Woody and fellow Australian Fran Heap, who went on to abuse all non-Australians, i.e. everyone else, with a jar of Vegemite!!! Storytellers was amazing and ranks alongside the company of fellows EDA's as the highlight of the trip. Definitely worth the cranky, irritable, red-eyed 54 hours of no sleep that I endured during the first two days in NYC. Now I know why it's the city that never sleeps!! Other highlights: - - Dennis wanting 5 of us to sing YMCA at a gay karaoke bar!! - - Searching the village to find the above mentioned bar. - - Drinking to 5am with Steve Poltz, Lee Green, Amy Neufeld, et al at the "bar on 11th St between A and B". (will we ever forget that night??) Lowlights: - - Missing the "Day in the city" with Eric and CO. on the day of Storytellers due to having to find another hotel to stay at - - Being so tired that didn't really get to converse with at lot of EDA's and really get to know them. Next time perhaps?? I was hoping to return to the States again this year in time for Bearsville, but that plan got shot in the arse. Just means a bigger trip next year. P.S. Dennis, Amy, the EDAF sponsorship offer still stands, albeit with some small changes. Oh, that reminds me, I better due an application form!!! Jewel always gives her absolute BEST preformances in Toronto. I bet there are states Jewel has never even played... And to those Canadians who still still feel slighted, consider this: this week, EDA favorite Joy Eden Harrison is playing just as many LRC's in Canada as in the United States! What the hell is that all a-boot, eh?!? So, before Joy and Ellen Rosner run off to Gerry's in Montreal, I urge all U.S. EDAs to drop by my house Friday night and register your complaint that Canada is getting an UNFAIR allocation of LRCs. (Or just enjoy the show and hang with lots of fellow EDAs.) I figured... hey! they better be having that concert, since it is so near me, and iw ont have to travel to the mall. SO i decided to stop in. I saw immediatly on the wall was a poster for this cool event. So i walked in, and the man asked if he could help me. I said, well sure! So i asked him if i could have the poster. Ya know what he said? "Well, we got a memo in, so we will be giving out free posters at about 4 or 5 oclock on thursday." (which we already knew fom another angel post but..) then he looks at me and laughs. Then he said "ya know, you are like the 3rd person to ask me that today. i mean about having that poster. I didnt know she was so popular today." I laughed rather hard and said "today?????!!! haha no, she is popular EVERYDAY" and walked out. i just thought it was rather amusing... he had no idea jewel was so popular...hahahahhaha...haha..ha. Anyway, Angels, get there early and get some posters!!! I did call some radio shacks around me, for the promo posters, one said i can definatly have it, one said they could make me a copy of it, and 2 said to call tomorrow and ask the manager. So maybe i will have 3 or so posters for some angels. Not sure tho i will keep ya updated.
