Quick question...the "Rare Angels" that is on the Jewel auction sounds a lot like the "Rare Angels" I have as angelfood...isn't the whole point of angelfood to distribute it FREELY? I get yelled at by list members when I mention getting angelfood on a CD-R because it's "just not how angelfood was meant to be," but now people are making money off these tapes? Oh well, at least it's going to charity. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jun 2000 23:56:30 EDT From: Wesllow@aol.com Subject: * Set list for Austin City Limits Thoguth some of you might like to know this... heres Jewel's set list for Austin City Limits: Song List: 1. Most of us dont care that she did one show in Canda. Besides we ask so much of Jewel can't she just do something without our analysis. If anybody has a complaint its me. I had to wait 3 years to get the chance to see Jewel. When I got the chance I bought a ticket to the show in South Florida- couldnt go. Bought a ticket to the show in Tampa- wasnt allowed to go, by myself since it was 100 miles away so I had to buy either a bus ticket or another Ticket for my ride. I ended up spending almost 400 dollars(over 3 weeks of pay) all to see Jewel and I was the only one who wanted to go!!! UGH! She has to do what the label wants anyway so can we please stop our pointless bickering. I am from the Seattle area and would like to hear some of the shows I missed and re-live some of the ones I went to. I am also trying to build up my collection during the "off-season" :-) So, I am looking for the following: 95.04.26 Seattle, WA Puss Puss Cafe 95.05.03 Seattle, WA Puss Puss Cafe 95.05.12 Seattle, WA Puss Puss Cafe <- I have this but it's pretty poor sounding.. 96.02.22 Seattle, WA Pioneer Square Theater 96.09.22 Puyallup, WA Puyallup Fairgrounds (includ. WWSYS) 97.03.28 Seattle, WA Paramount Theater 97.07.05 George, WA Lillith Fair: The Gorge 99.07.03 Gorge Ampitheatre, George, WA If possible I'd like fairly low-generation copies of these.. I'd rather CD or Video, but will take tape if that's the only source. :-) Also, Is Radio Shack allowing people to videotape this show? Is it possible to record and playback on normal TV if it is for HDTV Broadcast? Sorry for asking if this has been asked, but I didn't see it posted yet. Thanks! - -Morgan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jun 2000 06:23:43 -0700 From: "Sara" Subject: * Austin City Limits Tapes Hey Angels! I found out that ACL is airing twice in my area, on June 11 and the 25. Considering that I have multiple VCRs I would be willing to make some tapes. I do have a total of 3 vcrs total, but one at the moment isn't working, I'm hoping it will be working in time for the show. Considering that I want a copy for myself and I am not sure if the 3rd vcr will be working, I'm prepared to have between 3-5 copys that I would be willing to trade for Angelfood. That's for now, Have a very Angelic Day ~smile~ Sara the Angel with a paintbrush. - --- "I think you're attractive. You look like you'd be a good Hunter Gatherer if we were in a Nomatic Tribe. On page 11 there is a new pic of Jewel (with this caption under the pic-- Jewel shaded her shiner.) with this small story. Jewel In the Rough *** Jewel understands the power of gossip. When she showed up with a black eye at the ASCAP Music Awards show in the Beverly Hilton Ho- tel in Los Angeles on May 22, the pop star took time onstage to explain the shiner before rumors got started."I was really paranoid that you'd no- tice it and wonder," she told the crowd, which in- cluded Christina Aguilera, Lisa"Left-Eye" Lopes, Bill Withers and Steely Dan. "If I didn't say any- thing, you'd look at me and then look at my boyfriend and go,'Oh.' But there's not a good story. My beagle, all 20 pounds of him, did it." Jewel also offered some reasons the performance might not be her best: She not only had a cold but had also written one of the songs only about a month earlier. *** So what songs did she sing? Anyone know? Jewel played those songs last year in Holland while she was on a Spirit World tour trip. Till this day the dutch broadcasters never aired this on TV but now they have shown us some songs which is really nice because i was present there when Jewel played in Holland. The atmosphere was great in the big tent and all the fans were extremely happy to see Jewel play with her band. Steve Poltz played great too, and Jewel sang great. So this was nice to catch on dutch television. I am sure you american fans look forward as i do to the great Austin City Limits setlist with songs like Break me, Stephenville, Hands and i thougth i saw you last night with all time friend of Jewel Steve Poltz. bye Michiel a dedicated dutch eda http://home.wxs.nl/~gorku004/index2.html Jewel Impala - the resourch for Jewelfans in Europe and USA soon to be opened this site : http://www.jewelkilcher.myweb.nl Jewel Impala - the dutch tribute site for Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2000 22:34:59 +0200 From: "michiel - the dutch jewelfan - van gorkum" Subject: * Spirit world Tour stories needed hello Jewelfans, I am looking for my dutch tribute site for Jewel stories of you fans of Jewel. We look forward to establishing an even better and more enjoyable relationship with you! Welcome! Before I continue with what's going on these days, someone would enjoy saying hello. I hand you over to Jewel: ************************************* Well, I suppose many of you might be wondering where the heck I've been since I quit touring around Christmas of last year. And the answer is hiding out. I've been on a 2,000-acre ranch a lot in Texas, just staring at open space and resting a lot. I was really tired. I had walking pneumonia all during my Christmas promo shows. My body was just plumb worn out. I was really tired of traveling and never being still. It took me a while just riding horses and being quiet before I started feeling like writing songs again - but thankfully the love and desire has returned to me, and continues again to be a great source of comfort, expression, and joy. For now I have no plans for a record. I've been busy on my new book, a bunch of short stories about things in my life from being on the road to canning rose hips in Alaska. It's called "Chasing Down the Dawn," and I hope it will be in stores by this Fall/Christmas. I'm looking at movie scripts. If I find one I like I'll do it this fall, otherwise I'll start working on a record. That's all for now. If you want to know what else we're up to, surf my website and stay tuned to JeweLink. I'll check in from time to time and let you know what I'm up to. Now I'll turn you back over to MrBB. All my best, Jewel ************************************* Hi, it's me again. Many of you are already aware of various activity going on, but for the sake of all our new friends out there, here's the latest accurate information: Jewel is wrapping up her second book, titled "Chasing Down The Dawn: Life Stories By Jewel," featuring short stories and prose. Contrary to speculative news reports stating it will be released in July, Jewel's second book should be published by HarperCollins later this year. A release date has not yet been set, but JeweLink will keep you informed as a release date approaches. The current excitement here revolves around the first time ever official JEWEL AUCTION with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Higher Ground For Humanity (HGH). The auction is your chance to bid on many highly prized collectible Jewel items including rare tapes, CDs, t-shirts, Jewel's surfboard, her mountain bike and the list goes on and on!! There's way too many items to even begin listing them all. Let's just say things have really been jumpin' here over the past few weeks! It's not too late to participate in the JEWEL AUCTION to benefit HGH or to simply enjoy viewing the auction items online. Simply journey over to www.auctions.com/jewel.asp. It's that easy! The auction will close at midnight (12:00AM EST) on June 6. Two opportunities to catch NEW Jewel performances recorded this year: Austin City Limits: Earlier this year, the 6th floor studio of Building B at the University of Texas was jumping as Jewel and her band entertained an audience of several hundred ticket winners. Taping an installment of the highly acclaimed PBS series "Austin City Limits" adds Jewel's name to an astounding list of performers over the past 23 years. Jewel's installment of "Austin City Limits" will be a rare full hour devoted to one artist and will contain new material never performed previously! Look for this program to begin broadcasting on PBS stations nationwide beginning this weekend. Many PBS stations will broadcast this on June 3rd (this Saturday). PBS stations have different schedules in each area, so check local listings for transmission times and availability in your area. Radio Shack Concert: Next week, Jewel will be performing a private concert in NYC and this concert is being recorded for a special RCA high definition TV promotion, two days later, on June 8th. Anyone within distance of a Radio Shack can go watch this concert for free, because on June 8th Radio Shacks nationwide will be broadcasting Jewel's concert on walls of high definition TV displays in their stores. We were told that the concert will begin broadcasting at 7PM regardless of your time zone. (Call your local RS to be sure.) It's also an opportunity for you to meet up with other fans in your area. For those of you who were unable to catch Jewel's performance in Ang Lee's critically acclaimed Civil War movie "Ride With The Devil," you won't have to wait much longer! The North American DVD and video rental release of "Ride With The Devil" (starring Jewel as Sue Lee Shelly) will be on Tuesday July 18th. The DVD contains extra footage and a few special additions including a behind the scenes look at the movie, the trailer and Jewel's video for "What's Simple Is True," a song featured on the soundtrack. Please visit Jewel's official website ay jeweljk.com for our calendar with additional detailed updates and TV listings. You'll also find all Jewel's official merchandise at her website store and remember, we feature NEW never before seen Jewel photos every Tuesday. There's also a brand new contest just beginning, so enter to win! On July 30, five lucky winners will be randomly chosen and will win one Spirit World Tour t-shirt, one natural ribbed Jewel tank top and one Spirit World Tour book. You'll find all this and lot more at jeweljk.com. Once again, welcome to JeweLink. We'll be contacting all of you again real soon, MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2000 19:42:45 -0700 From: "Sandy" Subject: Re: *Re: Canada I did just try to send this out to the list but something weird happened to my computer. So here I go again! Maybe I'll get the chance to add more insite the second time around! The only reason, Eliot, that most of you don't care about whether or not Jewel only played one concert in Canada is because you don't live in Canada! I can assure you, speaking for most Canadian Jewel fans, that we care! No one here is analysing Jewel or blaming her for anything, like I said before I am well aware that it's Jewel's management decision, not hers, but that doesn't mean that it still doesn't affect us. It's sad to think that we unconsciously reflect this on Jewel, but it can't be avoided considering it concerns her. The fact that you only had to travel 100 miles to see Jewel means you were lucky, so stop bitching. You don't seem to understand that most Canadians would have had to travel WAY WAY farther than that to go to the one concert that was played here. You don't seem to understand how utterly far away this concert was for most Canadians! For someone to travel from Alberta or B.C to Toronto to see this concert would be like traveling from Florida to California to see a concert! and most people simply aren't able to do this! You complain about the fact that you had to wait 3 years to see Jewel but many people, including me, have waited well over that time and never gotten the opportunity to see her! I even drove all the way to Woodstock, spent $150 on a ticket, plus the expense of gas, food, etc, and had to leave the day before she played so you should consider yourself fortunate that you got to see her at all! Oh and by the way: <> You just entered into this pointless bickering yourself! You angerily replied to what we were saying without a compassionate thought that maybe Canadians were being ripped off by her management and promoters only scheduling on concert, and the only reason that you couldn't care less is because it doesn't affect you. You have just complained yourself just as much as we were complaining so don't put yourself so high above us and tell us to stop our pointless bickering, unless you're going to include yourself in that sentence. We have honest real complaints, and this discussion list has helped us relieve ourselves of whatever we were thinking, so our bickering isin't pointless, thank you. ~<3~ Sandy ~ Angeloflove@innocent.com or Angelicpoet@home.com ~ Check out my *NEW* Jewel Site at: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Boulevard/9002/index2.html ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #165 ***************************
