The only reason groups like BSB and Britney Spears play on the radio and not Jewels stuff Is cuz we never request it so nobody knows her awesome newer music... I went to that website and also tried going to a few other websites, and can't find out if it's showing in my area! The pbs website does not have a station finder for Canada (although we are the big country up above you and they do for America Samoa) and I'm afraid it might air on another day and I'm going to miss it, so does anyone know where I can find out if and when it is airing on a Canadian station? ~<3~ Sandy ~ Angeloflove@innocent.com or Angelicpoet@home.com ~ Check out my *NEW* Jewel Site at: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Boulevard/9002/index2.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jun 2000 15:15:16 -0700 (PDT) From: "Joe P. Shenk" Subject: * Jewel manages to stay in Music business Hi , Folks . Here's an interesting little tidbit on how Jewel says she's managed to endure being in the music business ( 2nd paragraph ) , and it indicates that her book does come out next month ( first paragraph ) . --Joe ( from InfoBeat , 5/30/00 ) (Launch) - Jewel's second book - tentatively titled "Chasing Down The Dawn: Life Stories By Jewel" - will be published by HarperCollins in July. "It's been a long book to write," Jewel said. "It's a different process than poetry. It's a book of short stories and prose and crap like that." In addition to writing, Jewel has spent the last four months launching her non-profit, humanitarian foundation Higher Ground For Humanity. She said she credits her work on the foundation with keeping her interested in remaining in the music business. "I got a little bit...really freaked out. I didn't think I'd ever go this far, and I started feeling a lot more like a pop star than I was feeling useful, and what's the point of that?" [ * yesterday ] : ... Jewel will perform at an event to benefit the Natural Resources Defense Council dubbed "Earth To L.A.," which takes place at UCLA's Royce Hall in Los Angeles on *Wednesday. Larry David, Al Franken, Diane Keaton, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Carole King, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Rob Reiner are among the stars scheduled to join Jewel for the evening of music and comedy to benefit the NRDC's environmental work nationally and in Southern California. ===== folk_rock@yahoo.com My Home Page --Currently on KOSOVO , etc. : http://www.geocities.com/joeshenk ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jun 2000 19:31:53 -0400 From: "cymbaline" Subject: * Re: Jewel's new song in LA - some more info?? > Does any of the Jewelfans who did attend the Jewel concert in LA know the > song title and the lyrics of this new song ??? it was her first time playing it in public i'm pretty sure, so unless someone taped it, i'd say no. > does somebody has the lyrics for me of BREAK me or Stephenville? break me is at the jewel website i'll have the lyrics for stephenville posted on sunday, since ACL is airing late saturday night in my area, and i'll be writing down the lyrics to share with everyone. kelly ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Jun 2000 17:32:24 -0700 From: "Mary Olmos" Subject: * Re: Jewel at the "Earth to LA" show Hey Lotti, you shoulda stayed! (my husband thought he saw you, but I told him you went back to Holland)...Jewel came back at the end to sing "This Land is Your Land" with Carol King, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and an entire school choir! It was a pretty energetic version that had most of the lower level standing, singing and clapping. Jewel did not mention the name of the new song and we didn't see her at the after party, though we did see Ted Danson, Pierce Brosnan (who was one of the speakers), Al Franken (who did about 15 minutes of stand-up), Larry David (co-creator or Seinfeld, he and his wife are very involved in the NRDC), Dustin Hoffman, and Kevin Costner. Rob Reiner was the host. Robert F Kennedy Jr, who works for the Natural Resource Defense Council was the keynote speaker. This is the organization that originated "Earth Day" in 1970 and also has helped write a lot of environmental legislation including the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. >From: Lotti >Subject: * Jewel at the Earth to LA show >Hi, >Last night I went to Earth to LA. Most of the people on here, i think are from teh states if i am correct. (i think i am.. but i think i am right about everything) The TRUE issue that most canadians have with the states is that you dont know anything about us. Well.. other than we have good beer and get treated well in other countries. And no joke.. you wont believe how many times (the fact that there are any surprizes most) I have been stopped by a car full of americans loaded up with skis, parkas, and snowboards asking where is all the snow.. In JULY. Sad but true.. i think that the americans need to step back a bit, forget about teh stupid cigar and room behind the oval office and take a look at the country that is right over your heads. I mean come on... I can sing the american national antheme, i know the first president, the current president, the last president, the attorny general, the majority of the states names and flowers (i retain info well) the capital and several other things about the states.. how many americans can say that about Canada? I love jewels music, i love her style... but you cant blame her for not touring canada.. its basic ignorance about Canada as a nation. We are not the 51 state.. I can catagorically say that we are not part of the United States of America. We have a Prime minister.. not a president. I am tempted to start making this into the Molson Canadian Commercial.. but sadly.. my name isnt Joe... (Why did i have to be born a girl...) Blame the bookie.. not Blame Canada. With all of this talk about Radio Shack, I thought I'd share this little story about that chain from the TV series "The Simpsons" (Jewel's favorite TV show???). There was this one episode where space aliens landed and disbursed themselves among the general population. When the authorities realized this, they said "Now let's go check out all the places where the aliens could walk around and look like they'd fit right in," at which point Lisa Simpson said "I'll cover Radio Shack." :-) I like Radio Shack and still shop there sometimes despite the proliferation of all of the other electronic stores; I'm glad that they're doing this Jewel concert. The line from The Simpsons is still funny, though :-) [Q--How many Vulcans does it take to change a light bulb?] Take care, Greg [A--One.] ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #164 ***************************
