I dunno, I find myself listening to POY more than Spirit, but I like both for diff. reasons. I like just about all the songs on Spirit. I felt as if it had some equality of "likeableness" of all the songs, so I like them all equally. POY, however, it has more songs I don't like as much, but the ones I do like are my fav songs ever. I first had POY, but I didn't like the whole thing, just a few songs. I got Spirit and I really thought it was a well put together album, but there were a few songs off of POY I still like better, and then I found myself listening to NYA until I got Joy. I still listen to that even, I listen to Ave Maria, Face of Love, and Gloria. Well, thats just my opinion, pretty much, I like all her CD's for diff reasons. Seeing as how everything gets blown way out of proportion on this list it might be for a good laugh at least :) in this month's MAXIM magazine there is an article about the 30 WORST albums of all time and guess what, Spirit was named as number 27. hahaha. Sorry for the dry humor i just find it amusing. Don't get me wrong I still love Jewel...always will. I am, after all, one of the longest standing members on this list. And by the way, speaking of rare songs, have you heard of or been able to acquire Jewel's cover of "House of the Rising Sun"? I think it's only been played 2 or 3 times. It was played at a Michigan show in '96 for sure and on a couple of other occasions. Though the song has no one credited writer it's most famous version is by The Animals and there is also a verison of it on Bob Dylan's eponymous debut album. It's been a pet project of mine trying to locate a tape with Jewel doing this song on it and I have yet to have any luck. So that's why I bring it up. Thanks. Two bits of useless info and some personal news! : * On Monday night Jewel appeared briefly on "Fashion TV". Of course it was my luck that not only was I at work on that instant, but it was also hectic. So I just saw bits of her, never even caching real dialogue. I called the SABC, and they'll forward me information about getting a copy of the program. * Friday the girl next door handed me this small piece of paper. It was a small magazine clipping about Jewel, which is VERY old...it starts off with "The 21-year old singer/songwriter Jewel..." You get the picture. I just thought it was cool, cos I increased my total number of Jewel articles by 25%. * Wednesday afternoon I had some blood taken for registering me at the South African Bone Marrow Institution. Apparently there's a grade 2 kid needing a bone marrow transplant, and I thought, hey, why not, here's my chance to be an EDA (in the true sense anyway)! I still can't believe I volunteered for that...gee, the things I do for other people...lol. Ah well. The people weren't too impressed when I told them I was still 17, since it's apparently against the law for a 17 year old to register. :) She said she'll increase my age on the forms a bit. It's only a month anyway. That's all from me! - -- Koos van Zyl >>>>>>> The Savage Angel <<<<<<< Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. I was just thinking. You know how Jewel originally wrote Face of Love for the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack, but it got rejected? I'm GLAD it did!!! They didn't want Jewel to sing it, they just wanted her to WRITE it! Jewel sings it beautifully... and she absolutely deserves the credit as the songwriter and singer of it. I personally think the song would have lost all its "Jewelness" if someone else sang it. And if I were Jewel, although I would have been honored they wanted me to write a song for a movie... I would have been offended that they didn't want me to sing it. So, I think Jewel should re-record it so it doesn't sound so Christmassy, and put it on an upcoming album or something. Then release it as a single... it would be a big hit. It would be the next Foolish Games, I swear!! And it would piss that movie lady off, like Jewel said she wanted to do. Besides a new cd and a biography , she also published a book of poems- for which she received millions in advance. In the bundle there are lines like "I'm writing this letter to tell you. I don't love you anymore. I don't miss you. I never have." " When you write someone to tell them you do not love them anymore, it always hurts." says Jewel. " I put many layers into what I write. If you read between the lines, there is much more to be found. Many people do not do that." It is a clear sign of confidence to suggest that this 'poetry' is hard to understand. It sounds more like Candlelight (*note--a dutch radio show in which normal folks have their poetry read out loud by some discjockey...so not exactly a complement :( --)..: Listen! Do you hear it? I do. I can feel it. I expect a miracle is coming. Maurio DiPetro from her publisher : "I do not believe Jewel is preoccupied with the question if people think highly of her. When we selected the poems, she did not say once ' not this one, b/c it sounds stupid'. It was more like ' Maybe this would be of help to someone'. I find her more brave than resplendant. You do not have to like her poetry , but she is definitely not cynical. " Such a small amount of things really matter" says Jewel in Entertainment Weekly. I do not want to waste my time on small things. I do not want to look back on my life from my death bed and realise I have worried about things that are unimportant. It wouldn't matter then if I have sold 10 million records or what people thought of my poetry. Everyone says I am successfull . But I do not feel that way. I have achieved certain things , but that doesn't neccasarily make me successfull. It just all happend. I went from homeless to millionaire in 4 years. I admit, I am blond and I have talent. I am very thankfull for that, but that doesn't make me more valuable than someone who lives in a Volkswagon". - ---I've got to go out for a while :), I'll try to write a little more tonight:) Caroline the dutch listenin' angel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #104 ***************************
