I mean, we all know what Jewel is really like inside pretty well by now & we shouldn't have to figure it out by her shirt. *Jade* - -Tiny Angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2000 17:10:01 EST From: JewelAng@aol.com Subject: * Play boy shirt..hehehe Angels, Does anyone have this picture on the computer? If jewel does not live up to your STANDARDS (this is the correct spelling). Then maybe you should choose another role model. Jewel is an adult who is mature enough and old enough to do, say, think, and wear whatever the hell she wants to. Have any of you stopped to think that maybe the damn shirt just struck her fancy? Your over analyzing guys. Just go with it. It's just like poetry you may not understand it, but sometimes you just have to trust the poet. I doubt jewel saw the shirt and went ohh "Maybe I should plaster a logo signifying the objectification of women on my chest."(sean) Umm no I don't think so cause then she would look like a big fat fake who tries to use gargantuan words trying to impress a group of people.(EDA's) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Mar 2000 22:25:03 GMT From: "~* cymbaline *~" Subject: * Re: Playboy >So what if she did pose for Playboy someday? Maybe this shirt was a gift to her from her BF? He considers her sexually attractive, and gves this to her as a gift at one point. She wears it. Oh well. Also let us consider the icon that is on it. It is a bunny, could be the playboy mascot, or it might not be. Still, it is a shirt. Just a shirt. Now if she were to actually pose for the magazine, then I would be wondering, but as for wearing a shirt? I don't think that it is actually worth the effort to worry about it. I will ask this question though. How many of yall wear shirts or other items of clothing that have a logo on them? Do you think about the meaning behind the logos at all? Or do you just take for granted that it is an item of clothing that looks good on you? All seven of Jewel's released videos are available for viewing in Real Video format on the official Jewel website at www.jeweljk.com . Just click the "multimedia" link on the main page, then "videos" and you then have all seven to choose from. The only one not there is the original You Were Meant for Me video that was directed by Sean Penn. The more common YWMFM video IS there. Also, I am truly sorry for this being the third consecutive non-Playboy bunny/shirt post. I won't let it happen again ;-) Mike ;-) P.S. Did anyone get a REALLY CLOSE look at that "scandalous" shirt in one of the online pictures of Jewel in it? I could have sworn it was an Easter bunny shirt. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Mar 2000 15:52:34 PST From: "Drew Krewer" Subject: * Re: "she needs to get a new career" ? Hi all. I know. It has been forever and a day since I have posted, so hi everyone!!!! I mean, really, aren't those BB mags dedicated to Hanson and Backstreet Boys (no offense to die-hard fans out there)? Who are they to judge tasteful music??? :) Personally, I think music is loosing its intimate side. When the most successful song on the radio is singing , "I am blue. Da ba da de da be da," you know music is in trouble! Where are the personal lyrics? Where is the artist's connection with the song, a connection that can only occur with a singer/songwriter? This we find in Jewel and others like Tori Amos and Dave Matthews. Do we hear them frequently on the radio? NO! Does Tori ever win a Grammy in the expanse of her 5 album career? NO! Has Jewel ever won a Grammy? NO! And frankly, I think they are honored no to have done so. So, when a little teeny-bopper magazine begins to make comments on the Big Guys, I would personally roll my eyes and not waste my money on it! Thank you ChatKat for sharing that with the list. It's me again. I guess I spoke too soon (me saying that the BB magazine article was the first thing in a long time that has sparked something within me). I just read on in my digest about the Playboy shirt, and I think we are blowing it up (almost until it pops). At least Jewel didn't wear a shirt that said "I love Cocaine, how about you?" Jewel wore the shirt, she did not pose. It is her personal decision. I'm a Tori fan too; just because I listen to Tori does not mean that I hate God (b/c if you knew Tori, you would know she was not on good terms with the Big Man Upstairs). I appreciate her as a talented musician. It was Jewel's personal decision to wear the shirt. All we fans can do is live with decisions, not change them. Who knows what motive was behind the shirt? In my honest opinion, I think these matters are better just accepted. If you can't come to terms with the situation, burn your Jewel cds or something! Arguing incessently about the t-shirt will not change anything. Sorry if I have offended anyone, just stating my opinion. Jewel can wear whatever she wants to wear. Look at Jennifer Lopez and Spears. the beauty of it is, that she is still not put into their category..so she can get away with it. whatever....i just think you are a little harsh in decidnig Jewel's wardrobe. she does what she wants to do, and always has. ps. She tells her fans to "shut up" and "f**k off"--is that ok with you? Im jsut saying--thats jewel.. she nobody's bitch...thats why she's soooo dope! :) pps. Why do i let my mail box get filled with 32 emails with the same subject? when i figure it out i woll let you know, untill then, lets get back to being angels and not getting so hyped up over a simple shirt. When i go lay in the sun i wear a play boy bunny sticker on my chest...does that mean im a huge slut, and i must be stopped? ok, but in the mean time... i have a great little bunny tanline So please lets give it up.. stop wasting time fighting about a rabbit, and be happy jewel is growing up ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2000 21:11:11 EST From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: * oh my good lord... Ok this is getting really silly. This whole discussion about Jewel and her playboy bunny shirt is taking everything just a little far. OBVIOUSLY Jewel was joking around. I think it's funny because we all KNOW that the media (and the public) thinks Jewel takes herself very seriously. In fact most of my friends think she's 'precious' Jewel who answers questions by looking to the stars and consulting her aura and then delivering a one word answer followed by a spiritual hand gesture... Jewel did come across as extremely serious in interviews regarding Spirit. I think she was trying not to get burned by the press or be painted as the queen of the fairies.. The press generally had a tendancy to be rather nasty in regard to her "idealism" and so she tried to come across differently.. more sensible. so then we mistake that as her having become a self-important princess... and we complain about that.. when we all know (from seeing her in concert etc) that she actually isn't... so.. yeah.. so recently Jewel seens to taken a different approach to the media (from what I have read in any case) and is being much more sarcastic and less self-serious (ie - the new years resolution in rolling stone, a few of the interviews regarding the christmas record, the rodeo whore shirt and this playboy bunnie shirt).. and now.. we're complaining about that. it seems that we need a team of people to work together and come up with a list of "do's" and "donts" for Jewel to keep us satisfied. i repeat.. oh my good lord... i think the point is.. jewel was kidding. she likes to kid. so what? obviously she doesn't consider herself a rodeo whore or the spokesperson for playboy... i mean i doubt playboy would approach HER to wear their shirt for this particular event.. it's a rather random thing really... i don't think it's anything to be "outraged" about. it's NOT like she did anything seriously irresponsible. she didn't tell a bunch of depressed children to consider suicide. really .. it was just a shirt. and it's not like Jewel isn't a "sexual" person. Look at the 'wsit' video or even the Jupiter video.. both FULL of sexual suggestion.. who cares? she doesn't dress up like a cathlic school whore whining "hit me baby.." ... i mean.. i don't really have a problem with that either.. i guess it's a bad influence to the 8 year olds that are britney's fanbase... but the world is a bad influence anyway. but jewel's sexuality (when it's displayed in videos etc) is tasteful and subtle and doens't scream "i'm a slut, come and get me".... so what's the problem? eh... just my opinion later steve ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2000 21:14:18 EST From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: * Foolish Games edit Hey I have a question about the Foolish Games edit (and the version she performs). It's obviously been edited from it's original version.. some lines were cut. we all know this. Initially I thought this was for the purposes of radio.. but then i heard live versions of Foolish Games and realised that she hasn't played the full version since they edited it. This has a question that has been in the back of my mind for a long time... and it's probably something that's been covered on the list before.. but I joined only a year and a half ago (when spirit came out) so I'd like to know exactly why Jewel chose to cut those lines from the song and totally discard them. thanks steve ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #80 **************************
