Hey! that's really cool; Christina Aguilera seems to be a very sweet person ~ so it's nice to hear she has JewelStock tapes for inspiration and was once an EDA! If you're in touch with her, Mike, say a big congrats (and apologies for the rude-Burrito). I hope she has a long and happy career in music. It would relieve the stress of making all the copies for the few that actually have them. Maybe the people that actually have them could send copies to other people who could make copies and no one else. That way there will be more than just a few people making copies. Sure, they will be second generation, but as long as the person records it at a higher speed the loss won't be that bad. If someone who has an original copy would like to talk with me, I can try to relieve their "dubbing duties" and take part of their list of requesters and copy it myself. I just need to talk to someone who has an original copy. Drop me a line. What do you guys and girls think ??? I am new to this list and I really don't know what to do. I don't even know if this will go on like all the rest. But, i live in NY, and I have loved Jewel, for about 2 years. I have only been to one concert, which was in Camden, NJ and It was great. I was literally sitting on the stage, sooooo close. I have no anglefood from there because they took my camera...I was mad...but, anyway, NE EDAS from NYC?? Anyone have any advise on what to do on the list? I have been reading everything for about 2 weeks, this is just the first time I am writting.. It's been a while since I last posted , and I just wanted to comment on/respond to a few items , and also pass on some info. to my fellow EDAs :-) . Sorry for the length , but this is just a one-time lengthy post from me , and I think you may find some of the info. I provide , useful . >From: Mike Connell Subject: * Re: About the MTV > fanatic (with Jewel and an EDA) >The lucky Fanatic was fellow list subscriber Sarah B from Chicago. Sarah >used to be semi-active on the list in those days (posted maybe once a month >or so), but is now in college and concentrating on her studies, so she's >only on the Jewel-news version of this list right now. >To understand more what her experiences on that show were, below are two >messages she wrote about it. ... First of all , a big Thank-You to Mike , for re-posting the account of an EDA's experience meeting Jewel . That was interesting , for the rest of us who couldn't be there too . :-) And I , like the EDA mentioned above , will need to shift to the jewel-news list (only) soon , in order to focus on some other things in my life . >From: ABershaw@aol.com >Subject: * Jewel & Sarah-accurate info here > The only released recording of Jewel & Sarah McLachlan together is a >live recording on the "Lilith Fair-A Celebration of Women in Music" album. >They both joined the Indigo Girls on "Water Is Wide". > During that 1997 Lilith Fair Tour, they would often join the Indigo >Girls sets for another song "Closer To Fine", & both would often sing Joni >Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" as Sarah's set encore. These can all be found >on various TV broadcasts documenting Lilith Fair at the time. I am very interested in finding out what it was that I saw just a portion of , a couple of years ago . I believe that it was Jewel singing with Sarah McLachlan and the Indigo Girls , the traditional song , " River is Wide ." It was in an intimate setting , maybe MTV Unplugged , and it was a beautiful rendition of the song . Does anyone know exactly what show this was , and when ? Alan ? After we find out, I thought we could make requests that it be repeated , so that those of us not following the music scene close enough back then , can have a chance to see it in its entirety . I believe Alan also mentioned in a post a couple of months ago , that Jewel was to be on Nickelodeon's Nick News ( Sundays at 8:30 pm eastern ) . Did that take place , and if so , what was it like ? Interview and a song ? By the way , that show has had a number of good singer-songwriters on , in the last couple of years . >From: "Emilie" >Subject: * Jewel DVD > ... I would love to see the complete Storytellers show on dvd. ... and >VH1 aired only a part of the show, ... I'd like to make a few observations . First of all , about this and other related popularity/fame questions , I believe that the great divergence of opinion is mainly a result of the varying ages of us EDAs . MTV is generally geared to 12-22 year-olds , and the latest up-and-coming music celebrities that are popular to (most) teenagers are going to be featured most of the time (Whether we feel Jewel belongs on MTV , may depend on Our age ) . That makes it a bit difficult for Jewel to get "air-play" on MTV . It's fine to make requests for TRL , or in general for during the hours of the day when videos are played , but I have a feeling that our attention and focus on some other music sources may yield greater results , for having our Jewel grace the screen/airwaves . Because Jewel creates more thoughtful , intelligent music , which generally is more popular to more mature audiences , I have two suggestions ... First of all , I think VH1 is our best hope for getting Jewel seen & heard more , as it is programmed mainly for somewhat older viewers ( or at least more mature ) , like those aged 20-40 . We could all send a polite , thoughtful note to viewer services at VH1 , asking them to please present a Behind the Music on Jewel (they may have started producing it) , and to repeat the Storytellers , play more of her videos / specific ones , and , to present a Christmas Special with Jewel , like they were thinking of doing last year , ... etc. We can use the above postal address for VH1 , or e-mail them at : shows@vh1.com , or call them at : (212) 258-7819 (viewer hotline) , and press # 1 for the menu of options , and then # 6 , to leave a (request) message . Also available from VH1 ... A Free Viewer Program Guide that comes out every two weeks on the first day of each two-week schedule . Call the same number just above , press # 1 for menu , and # 5 for info. on how to get the guide by regular mail ( A good way to keep up with who's on , like Jewel ) . My second suggestion , is writing a thoughtful , polite note to CBS , because they merged with Viacom , the owners of VH1 & MTV , and they seem to be doing more Music Specials ( with individual artists ) . So we could ask CBS to please have a music special with Jewel . Here is the contact info. for them : > CBS > c/o Audience Services > 524 W. 57th St > New York NY 10019 , or call (212) 975-3248 and leave a (request) message . I believe those are our best bets to get more of Jewel on TV . If you wish to also try MTV , you can use the VH1/MTV postal address above , OR , call their viewer hotline at (212) 258-8700 , and press # 1 for the menu , and then # 1 to leave your request message . I wasn't able to get a good e-mail address for viewer services at MTV . If anyone knows it , please post it . If there's an MTV Unplugged episode with Jewel ( Was there , and when ? ) , Let's All Ask them to please Repeat it . And if there is a Lilith Fair episode of MTV Unplugged , that I was wondering about (first part of above -- Jewel/Sarah/I. Girls) , Let's ask them to repeat that , too . For those of you using your parents' phone , you may want to ask them first , as the above numbers are toll calls (outside of Manhattan) . I did see something about a toll-free 800 # for reaching the operator at VH1 & MTV ( ask for viewer hotline) , but it is either nearly always busy , or it doesn't work . But you could try it : (800) 342-5688 . In addition to the free VH1 viewer program guide , I highly recommend checking the schedule of artists appearing on TV (new or repeats) every couple of days , at Rock On TV : http://www.musicstation.com/rockontv/ , and you can subscribe to their schedule e-mail ... send a blank e-mail to: rotv-request@mischief-newmedia.com , with "subscribe rotv" in the body of the message . This is helpful , to know when Jewel will be on . >From: waternymph >Subject: * Jewel on AUSTIN CITY LIMITS: setlist > overall, it was a really good show... the broadcast later this year will >be only thirty minutes, but with no commercials. hopefully they will put >some of the new stuff, and not just the sappy spirit stuff on the show. I would like to hope that I am not the only one out there who LOVES the Spirit album . Again , the huge divergence of opinion about Spirit , is most likely tied to the divergence of ages of EDAs . I am a somewhat-older EDA , and the songs and performances on the Spirit CD , are my favorite . Finally , I would like to extend one last invitation to you all , to join my new Folk-Rock list community , for thoughtful discussion of great singer-songwriters like Jewel , Natalie Merchant , the Indigo Girls , etc. Go to : http://www.onelist.com/community/Folk-Rock and sign up , or send a blank e-mail to : Folk-Rock-subscribe@onelist.com Best wishes to all . --Joe ===== folk_rock@yahoo.com My Home Page --Currently on KOSOVO , etc. : http://www.geocities.com/joeshenk ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 11:48:21 -0500 From: "The Nirvana Loving Angel" Subject: * Jewel and Ty Does anyone know how long they have been going together? I have a homepage named "Hotel Angel" for exactly one year now, and that's why I'm making a 1 year anniversary special. I've improved almost every part of my homepage, but it still has the same layout, and also I've updated several sections: the lyrics section (added more lyrics), the audio section (added more audio & video), the gallery section (added more pictures, including 1997 Grammy pictures), and the Biography section (which I have written again, and it's very interesting and has lots of info). It would mean so much to me if you visit my web page to see what you think about it... as it is a tribute to Jewel, as I think she's an excellent singer, and I'm a REALLY BIG FAN OF HER. And I mean REALLY BIG. Just put me in a desert island with all of Jewel albums, angelfood tapes... and I'll die happy!!! That's to give an idea of how I love her.
