It would definately be cool to get together in Chicago. We could plan a day downtown, or something else if anyone had any ideas. And/or, as RB suggested, planning a gathering this summer in Michigan and checking out the Interlochen and Traverse City scene. I would be happy to get involved. So, anyone interested send an email to me and we'll get some ideas flowing. Also, myself and some other Chicago EDAs have been trying to find other EDAs in the area. Personally, I'd like to hear from anyone in the Lake Michigan area (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin) since I travel this area somewhat often. Thanks Angels! Malone" Subject: * when people drown they breathe water Okay angels, I think I'm a little disturbed by this little debate of "I like Jewel's low key side" against "Jewel changed my life and I want others to feel her power." How about a little reality...Jewel has sold over ten million of POY alone...that's 10,000,000. She can't go back to coffee houses and if she tried it would be a joke. She has moved beyond that, I liked high school but I am not wishing I could re-enroll. As for TRL, well, it boils down to this...if you want to see her videos then request them. Quit making it a humanitarian thing. "If Jewel is on TRL then lots of people will come to love her because they wouldn't hear of her otherwise." Jewel is like Madonna...just about everyone at least knows she exists. When you say, "Jewel," people don't respond by saying they have never heard of her. I just wish you could like Jewel and not have to complicate it with all this altruistic mellow-drama...those are my thoughts. How's about a couple questions though...when is her new book/album/whatever else coming out? and When is she going to tour again? feeling like the temperature in the room suddenly dropped and looking at everybody else wondering why they didn't shiver jack the bipolar angel :) :( __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The picture in the paper (page 2 of the Life section) shows Jewel performing the Elton John classic "Your Song". An online version of the article (much less text and no pictures) is at http://www.usatoday.com/life/enter/lep1.htm and is below. In either article, there is no mention if this affair was filmed nor any information if it is going to be televised. Mike :-) Star voices join circle of John's life LOS ANGELES - As famous friends and admirers interpreted a wide variety of tunes from his repertoire, the title rattling in Elton John's head had to be Can You Feel the Love Tonight? Sir Elton, honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year for his philanthropic efforts, sat transfixed Monday night at Fox Studios as a parade of pop stars sang his songs and his praises. The black-tie gala grossed $1.8 million for the Recording Academy charity that aids needy musicians. President Michael Greene presented $100,000 to John's AIDS foundation. Divas dominated the night. Melissa Etheridge sang Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Lulu did Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word. Jewel, with Moby on guitar, warbled Your Song. Mary J. Blige belted I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues. Natalie Cole sang Take Me to the Pilot. After Phil Collins finished Burn Down the Mission, John played piano and sang Philadelphia Freedom as the glittery cast assembled onstage to clap along. Whoopi Goldberg, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and the casts of Aida and The Lion King sent video salutes. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2000 07:39:05 EST From: ChrissyPf1@aol.com Subject: * NJC: North Carolina EDA's Any North Carolina EDA's out there? That is it not is available in PAL format, which both Australia & Europe both support. So I ask this to fellow Australians, European or any other PAL format users to all join forces in obtaining it. So far, a number of Australian EDAs have contacted the JMerch team about the availability of PAL format videos, as of yet it is not available. Though it has been suggested by JMerch that we contact Atlantic records to plead with them to make PAL format Jewel vids. The problem at the moment is that they do not have a sufficient number of people interested in getting a PAL video and so there are no current plans to produce them. So I plead with any others who require a PAL version video to get onto Atlantic Records and bug them about creating a PAL version for us all!!!. Currently I do not have an e-mail address for Atlantic, and there appears to be one missing from their web-site, but if there is anyone who can help with the contact details (either mailing address or e-mail address).. Alan, Mike, or anyone else?????????!!!!!! please post to the list. Thanks to you all! I am planning a year 2000 EDA T-shirt and have come up with a design for it already. I have talked with Mike about it an I am working on getting the design up on my web page so you all can see the design for this year. I have no desire to keep Jewel from others. I love Jewel whether she's #1 on the charts, or nonexistent. Nothing will change that. I guess I just don't see TRL as a way people will be exposed to her. A very limited amount of people watch TRL. The only time I've ever turned it on was when I knew Jewel was there. For a little while, I was watching MTV and VH1 every day. And every day around the same time, they played the same videos. Perhaps there's another way to get Jewel's videos played. If I remember correctly, the Jewel airplay site also listed the addresses for VH1 and possibly MTV. If people wrote letters, rather than just voting, maybe our passion will inspire more play for Jewel. Different things draw each individual to music. It took seeing Jewel in concert, hearing her more meaningful songs, to make me a fan. I only bought POY after I saw the concert and then borrowed my roommates copy. So share your angelfood with others, play it in the car, when friends are over. Use Jewel quotes in your yearbook, read her poetry in public and bring others to Jewel concerts. I think that, more than anything else, our passion for Jewel will cause others to give her a chance once more. Hi all, I don't know if anyone else has already brought it to your attention, but Jewel and Moby sang a duet of "Your Song" at a concert last night to honour Elton John. You can read more about it at the Grammy Awards official web site, http://www.grammy.com/awards/index.html then click the link that says "The Best Show You'll Never See" Although there isn't much more about Jewel, there is a photo of her performing with Moby. That duet would be a pretty intriguing piece of Angelfood, don't you think? Well, as Caroline mentioned in her post, Atlantic records aren't that enthusiastic about producing "Jewel: A Life Uncommon" in PAL format (the video format used in Australia and Europe) due to lack of interest. The ozEDAs have been discussing the situation for a while now and we decided the only way to bring about any change is to begin an aggressive campaign to prove their "not enough interest" attitude wrong. After months of discussion with J-Merch (who were so fantastic about the whole thing) it is clear that we have to go directly to Atlantic to solve the problem. As Caroline also mentioned - there is no email address on the web-site. So, I searched around and found only one postal address. It was for some division of the company (can't remember what) but I have just left out the name of the division here: Atlantic Records 1290 Avenue of the Americas New York NY 10104 So, I suggest to all Australian and European EDAs interested in getting a copy of the video (as well as anyone else that is knid enough to help us out) to write Atlantic a letter (a nice, polite one) expressing your desire for a PAL format video. If we find that our requests are met with a negative or no response at all, it has been suggested that we begin a petition. I think this is a great idea and will probably involve many volunteer EDAs to collect signatures in their area and then send them on to one specific EDA who will collate everything and send it on to Atlantic. I think first, however, we should just see how the letters are received. So, I ask that everyone consider giving-up a few minutes to write a quick letter expressing interest in PAL format videos and maybe Atlantic will realise they have something to gain from producing the video....like, a profit, maybe?
