Jason Mraz is a an incredible performer and has become quite a favorite of the Southern california EDAS. He has been a great friend to the EDAs out here and is playing our Project warmth Benefit LRC the week following this show. Not only did he play at the Jewel show Just after the Gathering of Angels concert, he also recently opened for Paula Cole. His is a voice and songwrtiting talent that continually astonishes even those among us that have seen him many many times. I just wish we could be there for the show.....Have him play Bright Eyes, One Find, Galaxy, and Water. You won't be disappointed you did :) Take Care Angels, Jason and Sonja Vierling Ps Yes that means what it looks like...Sonja and I married on New Years Eve ;) ===== EveryDay Angels Foundation (visit at www.edaf.org) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Jan 2000 02:32:14 -0500 (EST) From: melissa Edwards Subject: * buttercup + breaking up Does anyone know where I can find real-player copies of Buttercup and Breaking up? Another thing. One of my friends has a sister who is engaged to be married to a guy who owns a share in the sydney show boat. So anyways, she was on the sydney show boat on New Years Eve, and she said thay on the guest list that she recieved three days before New Years Eve that there was a girl on there that had the last name of Kilcher.........I nearly died, I was begging for her to let me go on the show boat with her, and thats big because I had plans for New Years Eve that invloved a 12th floor apartment in Milson Point! So anyways she said that this Kilcehr person had a fake name, because her first name was not Jewel. I was sceptical that Jewel would be on the show boat, so I decided not to believe her but to just wait and see. Anyways, I havent spoken to her since, but I spoke to her brother, my friend, and he said that she said it was a female relation of Jewels, that why she thought it was a fake name. Lenedra perhaps? Anyways, she probably took photos so I might be able to get a hold of them. Jeremy :) **The Scorpion, Peace Loving, and Kind & Gentle Angel!** My ICQ number is 42872979. I checked with the RIAA webpage. Pieces of You outsold Nirvana's Nevermind, by a million copies and still climbing. Shows ya how much critics know, don't it. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 02 Jan 2000 23:31:15 +0200 From: Jonathan Ben-Nun Subject: * So Jewel made it in the "10 Worst of '90's" list... I just felt like I had to comment on that... First of all, go check the lists just so you'll have one more glance at what some critics like. It's not a very balanced list, especially if it disqualifies some artists who are most definitly on the better side of pop/rock/grunge: Pearl Jam, The Smashing Pumpkins, Bush... The Red Hot Chili Peppers seem out of place, either. Still, if you examine the list you'll see it's not exactly hard to understand their taste. For example, Alanis Morissette and Noel Gallagher (Oasis) are very talanted creators (not to mention Alanis' texts) but they are considered of those who killed rock, which is what a lot of people claimed to have happened since Nirvana's days. Liz Phair, PJ Harvery and Beck are on the "best of the '90's" list for opposite reasons - they are considered to have brought new life to the music business. Jewel is hardly original in her music (major understatement), she is hardly the best writer and there are plenty of reasons other than her sex, her wealth and the fact that she is not Nirvana (nor Kurt Cobain, nor his widow...) to claim that her album sucked. I do think that Jewel's fame and wealth have something to do with this pick. It's REALLY hard to understand how come this album sold over 10 million copies world wide, even if you are a Jewel addict. Then again, considering Oasis' sales (750,000 copies in the first couple of days after the release) and Alanis' debute sales (over 30 million) I'd say the critics probably only picked on Jewel... I hardly hate Jewel (*I'm* not a music critic... and I am on this mailing list) but with that attitude to criticism, I guess I can never write to the list with an E-Mail signature such as "For every great song Jewel has written, there's one I wouldn't recommend even to Jewel fans". Can I?... :-) Jonathan From David's post on the lists: > > Well, Jewel must be doing something right. POY made all 3 critics in > Philadelphia's 10 worst list. Hey everyone:) I hope the New Year has started off great for you! I've gotten a lot of feedback on the newsletter idea, and I guess we need to decide one BIG thing: Do we want an E-Newsletter or a printed, mailed newsletter? On one hand, an E-Newsltter might be more efficient; on the other hand, there is a certain value to something you can hold in your hand and keep forever. If you have a preference, please vote by e-mailing me and typing either E-Newsletter or Snail-Mail Newsletter in the body. I'll tally the votes up soon and let ya know :) Love, Sari ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Jan 2000 18:04:15 EST From: Poet2811@aol.com Subject: * Idea for the newsletter conflict Hey guys- I have an idea that I want to run by all of those involved w/ the newsletter do ha thingy. Well- how about this: We could do both. The Newsletter in the mail could be rare so people are only working on something that complex once in awhile... For example every 3 months one could come in the regular mail instead of the e-mail box. In three months you could collect a lot of stuff, poetry, news on Jewel, ect. The one in the regular mail could be bigger than the one in the e-mail box and have more substance... Wha'd ya' think?? My friend Stephanie and I met a girl who was willing to send us the pix she took, but apparently we've lost contact with her. If anyone has pix and the negatives we'd love to get copies from you. We'd be willing to pay for everything and perform a trade (if a mutual agreement is considered.) Anyway, thanks for you time.
