Well, I hope to meet some of you and get to know what inspires you all! I love music and writing. It seems that is something most of us have in common. :) well im going to get going but ill be talking to you all soon. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Dec 1999 16:46:44 GMT From: "Michnay Balazs" Subject: * How to make a screen capture / About me Hi, Someone asked how to make a screen capture from a Real Video. So... Pause the Real Player at the position you want to capture and then press ALT-PRINT SCREEN buttons at the same time. Then run a picture editor program (such as Paint Shop Pro) and click Edit/Paste Now you should see the image. After these steps you only have to save it and print :-) That's all. I hope it works. If you have any problems capturing let me know, I'll try to help to solve all of your problems. Bye. Michnay Balazs - The Hungarian EDA. (eda_jewel@hotmail.com) Anyway here are some words about me: I'm Michnay Balazs from the south-eastern part of Hungary. I'm 18, I'll be 19 in january. I've been a Jewel fan since I first heard Who Will Save Your Soul. That was my first time I had heard Jewel. I know it sounds strange but I must say that I didn't like the music she plays that time. But the more I listened to it the more I loved it. And now I couldn't live without her music (and without her). Now I'm studying computer sciences at the University of Szeged. Now here's a strange story. When I gradated from from the high-school I asked my parents to let me go to a Jewel concert to Milan. Fortunately they agreed! We couldn't buy any tickets from Hungary so I asked my cousin's friend who lives in Florence to buy them. So first we had to travel to Florence and from there we had to travel to Milan The trip took almost 2 days... I was so tired. Finally we got to the "Teatro Carcano" where the concert was. Soon I had to realize that the concert was cancelled by Jewel because she was sick. BUT I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT! Sad story isn't it?? OK I must go now, Hugs: Balazs. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Dec 1999 12:39:26 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: * Re: Jewel on Optus in Australia Jeremy wrote: >Did anyone else see the special on Optus, the making of the Jupiter video? >Lickily my friend has Optus, knows about my obsession with Jewel, and >chucked a video tape in a got a bit of the special as well as the video >clip. Then asked: >I wonder why this wasnt put on the headline news at jeweljk.com? It's very likely because they didn't know about it. It's pretty much impossible to know all the worlds' Network's broadcast schedules :-) I would imagine it works like this....... Of course, any non-repeat "taped that day" talk show appearances they know because....well....it's a new appearance/show. (They know where Jewel was that day :-) Any *first run* "taped a while ago" appearances like the TNT Christmas show, Sessions At West 54th, tonights Family Channel special etc, they know because they and the network are in contact for that. Many times they know the day of the first airing (and any soon-there-after repeats) on the day of the taping. Other times they get contacted later with that information when it has been determined. However, in the cases like what you just saw, a 5 to 6 month old "Making Of Jupiter" repeat, I would imagine that 99.99% of the time they don't get that information from the network, especially a non-USA network. They quite often get that information from this very list....someone digs up a scoop on a repeat, posts it here and soon there after it appears on the jeweljk.com calender. Mike :-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Dec 1999 13:26:54 EST From: Wigglytooth523@aol.com Subject: * VH1 review of Joy: A holiday collection Hi Angels, Heres a review of Joy by VH1... Jewel is a kind and talented soul -- let's establish that right away. This doesn't mean, however, that she is suited to make a traditional Christmas record. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"? Sure, why not? A warbled "Joy To The World" is another story; it's a bit unnerving to hear the familiar pop radio voice (and production!) trilling songs one typically associates with churches and things of a more heavy, holy nature. The sparely orchestrated choral number "Ave Maria" is, surprisingly, one of Joy's strong points - probably because you can't really add folkie flourishes and sing in Latin at the same time. On "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," Jewel shifts right back into her strangely slack-jawed coo. A playful "Winter Wonderland" features some charming pedal steel, but Jewel's scatting takes things too far. The album closer "Hands (Christmas Version)" sounds just like the hit song, only adorned with chimes and strings and bells. Ad execs have probably already placed their bids for Christmas 2000 soft drink commercials. Excuse me while I run to the bathroom I think I'm gonna hurl! Can anybody say anything good about Jewel? Are we the only people in the world who can see Jewel genius and beauty? Mike From: dirk albrecht I just came back from the concert at the Spreckles Theater in San Diego > on Saturday, March 2nd. Jewel was on the same bill as the Rugburns. > In one word the concert was FABULOUS! I must agree completely, James! The San Diego show last night was incredible! I've seen Jewel 4 times since November and each one gets better and better. I'm a big Rugburns fan, too, so this was the perfect concert-- i'd have to say the *best* one I've been to, at least in the last couple years. Well, this here is what I wrote this morning, chock full o' details (i find if I don't, then I forget too much), so I hope you all have big mailboxes! Ah, it was such a perfect day. 'Twas summer-like weather in the middle of winter and I was lounging in the sun drinking my Starbucks coffee (this one was definately worth the price!) and reading. On top of all this, I thought, tonight i get to see my favorite mellow musician Jewel (non-mellow favorite Nine Inch Nails) and the funnest (grammar schmammar) band around, the Rugburns. My friends and I drove downtown to the theater a little later than I would've liked, a half-hour before showtime (20 min drive), but it was assigned seats so no problem. Except for that pesky coolant hose that exploded on the way. Engine temp. shot up, the car started to smell funny, and we barely made it to a gas station. Time ticking away... Two choices: taxi home and use my roomate's car, or taxi to the theater and maybe get stranded downtown at midnight. Of course, we wagered our future and went to the theater, spending the last $10 we had altogether. OK, so we've got less than a dollar in change, no credit cards, etc., but it was only a half hour into the show when we got there. We missed most of Gregory Page's solo act (he's the bassist for the Rugburns, and has a solo CD out too) During the short intermission before Jewel's set, my friend and I started talking to the people behind us, and found out they were Steve Poltz' grandparents! The whole Poltz family was there, mom, dad, grandmas, and some younger kids, too. (Heh heh.. I got better seats than the Poltzs!! 4th row!) They were having so much fun, especially the grandmas!! If you've heard the Rugburns, you'll know how unusual that is... Jewel walked on stage and quickly started playing Pieces of You amid much cheering. Wow. Her voice sounded incredible! I am amazed every time I see her, but this time i couldn't believe it. Could've been a better sound system than the small cafes and bars, I suppose...absolutely incredible. Well, the setlist, in no particular order: POY Studies in Love #12 Morning Song I Hate Valentines Day Sonetimes it Be that Way Here When Gone Louisa & her blue Guitar Race Car Driver I'm Sensitive Daddy YWMFM Deep Water I've-Got-The-Blues-More-Than-You-Do Blues WWSYS Angel Standing By Chime Bells She sang a very-polished set: no mistakes at all, key-changings were quick--she's getting good at this! (She even hid her flaring nostrils behind the mike as she tuned!) She seemed a little time-conscious, checking her watch a few times and keeping mid-song stories brief. She mentioned overhearing people say that it looks like she has to pee when she plays! (Funny, I thought the same-- must be the leg movements) Lots of random stories: about frozen outhouses (that's how she *really* learned to yodel, sitting on a frozen toilet seat -- yodel-eh-he-hoo!), about her childhood theory that one's brain was a bunch of hair in one's head that slowly unravels w/ time (which explains senility, "hare-brained ideas", etc); about her dad's eyebrows (women's breasts sags as they age but men's hair sags, so her dad combed everything straight up, and when he yodeled his eyebrows swayed like windshield-wipers!). Her yodeling was better than ever! The only drawback to her perfect set was that she had fewer opportunities to display her charm and talent in "fixing" little mistakes by improvving, etc. (The concert mood changed after the Rugburns, and she was doing some improv and just having fun later...) She still did interject things that kept me laughing, with lyrics like "it's better than *smoking* Star Trek after you *watch* weed". Oh, and to top it all off, in the middle of the drug bust story, when federales offer the bud ("Good, tastes goood!") she quotes my favorite line of Pulp Fiction: "Pork Chops taste good, Bacon tastes good!" That alone made my night! Steve Poltz then joined Jewel and they sang "Silver Lining" and "I Think I Saw You Here Last Night" (thanks mucho Innerchange Days organzers! They played all the duets on innerchange!) OK, time for the Rugburn's set. (More Jewel at the end, so skip down if you want) I've read from a few people here that they're not too fond of the Rugburns, which I can understand if they haven't seen a live show. I guarantee anyone would change their mind after seeing them, though! (Well, maybe not... the middle-aged couple in front of me that looked like they meant to go to the opera (bravo, bravo) sat completely motionless thru the 'burns, didn't move to the beat or clap) I can't think of a band that has as much fun on stage as the Rugburns. That makes it so much fun to see--Stinky being wacky as usual on drums, Steve and Gregory Page strumming on their backs with their feet in the air--you get the picture. But, even with the nuttiness, their music still rocks! The setlist (no order): Single Life Now's Not the Right Time for Love You Should've Told Me Ballad of Tommy & Marla War Lockjaw Hitchhiker Joe Kilkenny Man (complete w/ drummer "Stinky" wearing kilt and running off stage into the aisles) a song for Steve's grandfather Holliston St. They sang a hillarious cover (slaughter?) of some TLC song about chasing waterfalls or something. It was complete with a rapping Steve and strip tease (some lucky (?) audience member got his belt), and Jewel later commented on how Steve's got the sexiest belly. Jewel gets on stage again, now wearing jeans instead of the black minidress from before. She sings a few songs with the band: "Daddy, She's a Goddess" was great. It's on Innerchange Days in acoustic form, but here it was played with the rest of the band, drums, etc, so it was fast-paced and loud. It was a chance to showcase a different side of Jewel. She was unhindered by a guitar and backed by a wild band, so she was singing and dancing like I've never seen before. A post a while back wondered what it would be like if she was lead singer of a band, and I'd have to say that it definitely works! It was great! They started to improvise a little: The Rugburns played "Rub Somebody (the right way)" and Jewel stayed on stage, dancing along. Then she suddenly took over and sang a verse by herself! Not to be outdone, Steve and the rest of the band next sang Jewel's WWSYS! Jewel had to help out, though, especially for the ending "save your soooooooooooouul" -- who else could match her vocal range?? They also play "Old Lover's House" and "Love is a Rose," and the Rugburns end with "Me and Eddie Vedder" They run off stage, and return a minute later to a standing ovation!! All five of them do the theatrical simultaneous bow with arms interlocked. Ah, the end of an incredible concert. I didn't see where Steve or Jewel went afterwards, but Gregory Page did walk out with the rest of the crowd. He knew they played an excellent concert, too: I overheard him talking: "We're gonna be the next REM! We're gonna get a new van!" or something like that. So, bottom line: if you get a chance to see the Rugburns, I'd recommend it-- you'll have a really fun time; of course see Jewel when you can; and by all means if they both play together, don't even *think* of missing it, even if it means losing your job or failing your classes!! OK, I apologize again for the lengthy post. Feel free to flame (in private Of course) ;) Peace, -dirk ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #741 ***************************
