I really looked forward going to this concert tremendously and when it was cancelled meant for me a big blow. I never expected it to happen, so i have really cried. After the wonderful european concert this may i really had make plans to go to Alaska, a place where Jewel has her roots, to see jewel performing around the millenium. Why can't Jewelmanagement and Nedra Caroll and Jewel sit together and let the concert still happen around the 27th of decemeber. Earlier than this would be not okay. But any date earlier than the 31th december would be considerable. I certainly know that i am not the only fan who booked his plane because he was certain that the concert was going to happen. You certainly do not expect the concert to be cancelled. So therefor i want to ask everybody involved in planning concerts of Jewel in alaska in december that they will RESCHEDULE the concert. It would mean so many for a lot her fans. I think all of the fans going to Alaska had so much looking forward to see Jewel. So i hope i can let everybody involved with Jewel really reconsider the date of the concert and instead of whole cancellaton to read the news that the concerts are going still to happen. It worries me in a way. Not the opinion, not the expression of love for these songs and artist, byt what the choice to pick these titles in this list could me to me and others more like me. I consider myself a fan, I live far away from where Jewel was born and where she can be seen in concert and on tv. Just going to US and just visit a concert doesn't have that easy ring in my ears. I hope you will read the following without a direct opinion or answer about what I am saying. It's a long mail, but please read it. I have been wondering this for a while now: How come these songs (see list in the end of this email) are more popular than those she got famous by? (Foolish Games, YWMFM, Hands, LU...) How come I think chosing such a list means more than just a difference in taste? Is it because they're unreleased (most of them)? Could it be that one cannot be a Jewel fan unless one knows all of these rare and unreleased songs? Can I consider myself a fan without this knowledge? This list of favorite tunes sure made me question in what way I am different in this than you. Can we be different kinds of fans, solely defined by what music and what timeframe got us to collect whatever we can? A while back someone complained about the new style used for Jupiter. It wasn't the Jewel he knew. What does this mean for the people that start to love her after hearing this incredibly beautiful song. How will the die-hard fans consider them? How will you in person talk to someone who considers him- or herself a huge fan when they only know this new Jupiter? Will there be a difference in respect for a fellow Jewel fan? I am implying something I wish not to think and believe. What I've said may be easily be ignored because it's not really a problem. Or is it. I know for certain that when newbies - as they are so wonderfully called - read the information written here without further knowledge about what it is, they can feel somewhat ignorant, stupid, not completely fan. Personally, I reject the belief that time and place can make a difference in love. Also the love for an artist. I raise this point not to show you my vulnerability (knowing not as much as you), but to create a discussion about the way the fans show themselves. Solely with philosofical intent.
