If you were blind or listened to this on the radio, was the music just as wonderful as it usually is? I missed it and I was curious since now I know exactly what she was wearing, how much make up and everything else about her appearance. C'mon people, there must be more to this list than make up. We're angels! Let's stop acting like all those other people! Okay once again the airhead angel speaks *evil laugh* Well...we all say let's stop criticizing Jewel...but let us remember a famous quote from the gem herself: "What we call human nature in actuality is human habit." I think it's human "habit" to pick a person apart, and inspect her, find all the little faults, and while nobody would ever say it to her face, soon as she turns around she'll be ripped to shreds again. You know what it's called? GOSSIP! And with a list of so many people on it, it's bound to happen. And sure we can try to stop it. Mike can stop posting all the "bad" Jewel posts. But then what discussion will be left on this list? It'll be all when we discovered Jewel stories and Calendar events. And when we finally do watch the events, we'll have to lie and say how great we loved Jewel just to get our names seen when in reality we think to ourselves I wish she would just pull her shirt down! Controversy adds spice to the list, and we should be free to say what we want, as long as it doesn't get too out of hand. So long live Jewel and her cute little belly! Well...this might be a bad time to ask this...but there's no time but the present... Has anybody else noticed that Jewel's eyebrows have been different colors throughout the years? Now I picked up on this partly because while I am a natural blond, the sun does help a lot, and my eyebrows are like dark brown. So I pick up on the lil stuff as a consulation to me. And I was reading somewhere how women do dye there eyebrows to match their hair color. Which leads me to my final conclusion: Is it possible that Jewel's hair is lightened? It very well could be natrual (from the sun) but I was just curious! Also... The religion thing... NO I AM NOT A WITCH! I just needed to clear that up. *smile* And on the Life Uncommon single, Jewel is wearing a very pretty necklace which sports a cross on it :) Smile always, Carolyn Airhead Angel IM: LiLMoNKeyGirL Webpage: http://hometown.aol.com/lilmonkeygirl/myhomepage/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Oct 1999 09:37:14 EDT From: GitarAngel@aol.com Subject: * Re: Jewel-that's it, it's JEWEL Bravo, Tiffany. That's right! Are you guys saying that if the first time you saw Jewel she wasn't your idea of physically beautiful then you would have never been inspired by her? If the only reason that you guys are fans is because you want to be part of a beautiful face, I suggest that you take some time for yourselves and get your priorities straight. She has given us so much and I think she deserves better than this. I'm not trying to yell at anyone here. I'm not trying to start any hard feelings, but doesn't she get enough of this scrutiny from the media! I know most of us have read many poems that she has written about the way that it rips her apart inside to see people being so superficial and thoughtless towards each other. Can't this be the one place where she can be exalted for her heart, hope and courage and not have us turn around the next second just to criticize her body, which is of no possible relevance in comparison to her spirit? We shouldn't worship her, but is it too much to just be respectfully appreciative? I harbor a respect of the most humble veneration for her - I know that many of us do -- neither her nor you will be around forever. Hold her close, write her letters -- these are the kind of things she deserves. It can't possibly be anything close to easy in the public eye. She needs support. She needs hope. Don't belittle the beauty of her spirit or the spirits belonging to those of us whom have truly become better human beings because of her inspiration. We need to be careful with what we say. As our buddy Steve Poltz said "...what once was so precious has now become lame" I dont know about you, but I dont want our precious Jewel to fade. But if I had known anything about the internet and Jewel lists and other wonders of technology when I was 11, I would have jumped on and subscribed to get in on the spirituality, soul, and poetry. I regret that I did not when I read about this list in the first issue of Twist magazine a couple of years ago! I wish I would have known that that was the actual basis of this list! I would submit it, now! And that is my mission: Only positive posts. Poetry, inspirational stories. I hope angels will join me in this mission to get the old EDA list back! :) Peace, Tiffany! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Oct 1999 10:13:26 -0700 (PDT) From: dream Subject: * an interview doesn't make a person hej, i just want to share something that i saw on local[philippine] tv that pissed me off. some filipinos can be really stupid!! i just saw this bunch of people on a talk show whose host is a certain martin nievera. the guests are from another talk show and they do interviews of artists, and showbiz people. nievera asked his guests about their *worst* interviews. one guy said his is Jewel. reason being that Jewel wasn't attentive and was said to be laughing about something or with someone, something to that effect. nievera then said that "she isn't much of a jewel". what's up with that?! i'm definitely sure that Jewel has done more great things to inspire and help people all over the world compared to this nievera guy[a filipino who doesn't even speak filipino]. an interview isn't enough to be as a basis for judging the worth of a person. i know many of you will agree to this. i looked up the show's e-mail address and here it is martin@abs-cbn.com. i think these people need to check their heads, and we e-mailing them about how great a person Jewel is can make that happen. we should tell them about the things that Jewel has done for the planet and its inhabitants, aside from the fact that her music has inpired many to be better persons. This weekend's SLAMfest gathering was a blast! (For those who haven't been keeping up with the list, SLAMfest was a benefit concert for the EveryDay Angels Foundation). We all met up at Mike Vardal's house in the early afternoon. Mike has the ultimate basement room complete with drum set, baby grand piano, keyboards, 4-track, an old jukebox and pinball machine, and movie projection room, along with funky ambient lighting. Of course, that doesn't leave much room for furniture, let alone 7 sleeping bodies (more on that later)! We were regaled with all sorts of tales of Southern California from Jason & Sonya, who were visiting the east coast, conveniently, while Eric and Mike entertained us on the various instruments. We headed over to the venue around 5:00 and got things set up. Five bands played and all were excellent! Once Dan & Leif showed up, there was a total of 11 EDA's present along with probably about 150 "regular people" ;-) Unfortunately, the World Series prevented the place from being packed. We got back to Mike's at around 2:30 am and Eric and Kelly crashed almost immediately (uh, it was probably the ROOT beer Mike gave us, right?). Jason, Sonya, Alice, and Dennis decided to talk for - oh - 2 hours or so, which kept me awake. Of course, Dennis had stolen the couch (that I had called early in the day) while I was in the bathroom changing (Every Day What??) so I was on the floor and couldn't sleep anyway! For those of you that know Dennis, Jason is almost a carbon copy of him (scary, I know!). Except JASON is a gentleman and would NEVER have stolen the couch like DENNIS did. :-P Sunday morning, we did the usual EDA breakfast, this time ending up at Bickford's. Next we did our usual lingering in the parking lot. Once I finally herded everyone into their cars, Jason, Sonya, Dennis, and I headed to Alan's (Mr. BB) for an EDAF meeting; at great risk, might I add, to our bodily well-being since his psycho-kitty "Mouse" was on duty as the Jewel Archive sentry dutifully guarding the whole place from evil intruders. If that cat had claws, we'd all be mince meat! Although she was uncharacteristically nice to me at first (no doubt remembering the catnip toy I brought her a couple years back. Yes, indeed, that toy brought her hours of enjoyment as she stared at it and then ignored it completely). But once Dennis came over, that was the end of that! Mouse no doubt had heard about how he stole the couch from me. After our meeting, we were FORCED to watch a preview of some silly video movie called "Jewel: A Life Uncommon". :-) Let me just say you guys are gonna LOVE it! It had lots of older footage and backstage silliness; four awesome performances and some great Steve Poltz stuff, too. Shane and Atz, Jr. are prominently featured, as well. And you'll discover a whole new Jewel talent. She can drive a car while talking and yodelling and not even look at the road! WOW! After that, we got to see and hear some other rare archive stuff, including several songs I'd never heard before. Then came the requisite torture session....my favorite Jewel song is Unsung in Your Eyes, which she's only sung in public twice and both times she only sang the first verse and chorus. I thought it was because she hadn't finished writing it, but apparently she had it all written and then forgot it (what a shock!) So every time I go to Alan's, he announces that he just dug up yet another version of it with even more verses than on the previous one (of course, they're all studio sessions or private archive-only tapes so I can't HAVE them!). I know there are other EDA's who love this song, too, and can feel my pain! Just so you know, I do have a secret agent working on the revival of this song and there has been a little bit of progress! So, anyway, thanks to all the people who made this weekend so memorable - Mike and Ma & Pa Vardal, Alan & AmyJo, all the EDA's who showed up for the event, and all the bands who played for us. You guys are great!! Amy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Oct 1999 17:25:18 EDT From: Jwlfan112@aol.com Subject: * Re: POY is DIAMOND Certified!!! Well I sang "Life Uncommon" and my teacher started to cry. She asked me who the artist was and I of course said Jewel..anyways.. the next day my teacher came up to me and said that she had bought the CD and that it was the best one in here collection! She loved all the songs! I think that, that's cool that I got my teacher into liking Jewel. I went and saw her the other day in her office(I go to another school now) and I was amazed to hear Jewel playing. It was cool! Well just thought I would share! Ok about the way she was dressed... I think she was dressed in the black belly shirt, black skirt, boots, and little make up to be simple. Ya know? To go along with the song. She sang beautifully but I like the album virsion better. Is that the radio release? Anyway, About the belli thing... thats how tons of woman are. Like me. Its the way she is built. She probly fells insecure enough without her dear Every Day Angels saying she is fat (witch she is not). The way she is built is one of the reasons I love her.
