Jewel's music is so full of spirituality, spiritual messages practically ooze out of the CDs that its recorded on. I think why people are asking about Jewel's religion is because they want to know where these hopeful uplifitng messages. She has mentioned Jesus Christ in a few songs which leads to speculation and adding to our curiosity. Its like the other day, someone posted a message about Jewel turing up to a party they were at, and they got to have photo's with her......then they had the ordasity to bitch about her purple eye shadow!!!!!!! The point is, that you meet jewel, and in all likely hood spoke to the kind angel! So her eye shadow really SHOUDN'T be a topic of the conversation! Lets just stick to the peace giving music that jewel gives us, and lets not turn into people who OBSESSED with her looks! If you want that, go to the message boards at jewelkilcher.com, becuase they is pleanty of topics there, and hardly any of them have anything to do with the music! Is Jewel a Christian?? Yes...I truly don't think she recorded a Christmas album for the Jehovah's Witnesses.. is she catholic, baptist, mormon, protestant? God knows... there's your answer ...all roads lead to the same God and we are all one. To those bitchin' about the rest of us , yes us, wanting to know about her life as well as her music, sorry, but she is a public figure and everyone is entitled to find out about her and talk about her , good or bad...it comes with her career and SHE choose it, so don't come her and plant your seed of discord. the question was a very innocent one wandering about her religious belief and you turned it into another fat cigarette smoking pregnant woman discussion, you , not us..... In a more important and lighter note I got my Life Uncommon cd today and it's great..if you hear closely the 379th even clap is mine , and the 148th woohoo is mine also.. call you radio stations to get airplay to hear the song also my claps and whoohoos and help some 3rd world countries with their drinking water problems. Excuse Me? I had to say this.... I've been on this list less than a week and the past couple of digests I've gotten have been commenting on past comments made about her weight. I'd like to know who was saying she was fat. I'm sorry, but the first time I heard of Jewel and her wonderful music, I was watching MuchMusic up here in Canada and the video of Who Will Save Your Self was playing. This was a few years back and I immediately fell head over heals in love with her. I thought and still think she is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Fat? I think not. Give me a break, who ever said this.... Man, that irritates me....Whoever said that, should go join Kate Moss's mailing list.... Jewel is a goddess..... It was only about a year ago when we wondered whether or not Jewel was a wiccan and used her lyrics to support that. While I can't say whether or not Jewel has recently "converted" to Christianity, it certainly does impact how we look and think about her lyrics and words and songs. It helps us to understand her, not stalk her or invade her privacy as some might believe. It's a matter of understanding and accepting her beliefs, not criticizing or making them out to be something that they are not. If you look at these questions in the right context, then you'll understand that they are of importance to fans. Instead of taking the answers to these questions and making a value judgment on them (and misinterpreting someone's beliefs in the process, because JK's beliefs cannot match yours exactly), use them to create positive discussion on what these things might mean. We all avoid arguments that way. Wow, that sounded like something my section leader would say. Jewel shot the new video for it yesterday & its in post production now. I'll let ya know when it premiers. She'll be performing it on upcoming TV appearances. (Check the www.jeweljk.com calendar for all that info.) I'm in a rush tonight, but I'll get ya more details soon. Jewel is perfect the way she is, and even if she was fat would that take away from her voice or who she is? If anyone thinks she is fat, than they don't have to date her. It is unfortunate that so many people on this list choose to use it to gripe about Jewel instead of being constructive. We don't own Jewel we only buy her albums and go to her shows, and she does a very good job of satisfying in that regard. Also if anyone watched Net Aid it was not a Jewel concert, she got no more or less time than any other act except the organizers. I just made an observation and posted about it cause if she were pregnant I'd be totally psyched for her!!!And I really dont care what she weighs.Shes perfect anyway, perfect face, perfect body.So Have I made it clear that I wasnt criticising anyone and people just took that totally wrong?! This past spring, The EveryDay Angels Foundation (EDAF) coordinated a list project to collect the deeds of EDAs and produce a scrapbook of "Acts of EveryDay Kindness" to give to Jewel in honor of her 25th birthday. EDAs from around the world participated, and the resulting scrapbook is truly impressive in its scope and expression of what "EveryDay Angels" truly are. The EDAF Board of Directors presented the book to Nedra Carroll at the Gathering of Angels show this past June in Ocean Beach. According to Alan, Jewel now has it at home (under her pillow, no doubt ;-) You can now view an electronic version of the scrapbook online at: www.edaf.org/kindness/edakbook.html The generosity of our fellow EDAs who shared their stories is certainly inspiring. We applaud their acts of kindness, and would like to hear what YOU think of them! And if you have your own acts of kindness to share, we'd like to hear from you as well. We are happy to announce that Mike Vardal and S.L.A.M. (Support for Local Artists and Musicians) are holding SLAMfest, a benefit concert for The EveryDay Angels Foundation at the UConn campus Husky Blues club on Saturday, October 23rd in Storrs, CT. The bands donating their talents to this exciting event are mostly alternative, and a bit "edgier" than Jewel fans might normally listen to, but they should provide an enjoyable evening! Pleasurecrush, who has opened for national acts Live, Helmet and the Scorpions, will join a lineup including The Flames, Janie Superstar, Andrea LaFazia, Renata, Trag and Lorenjishift. We appreciate the support from S.L.A.M. and these local independent bands, and hope to develop future events with Mike, S.L.A.M. and other local musicians. If you'd like to attend SLAMfest, email us at EDAFinfo@aol.com ASAP and we'll hold the requested number of tickets for you. The tickets are $10, or $8 with a UConn ID or EDAF membership card. You are also encouraged to email us if you have any questions about the event or need directions. The venue serves alcohol, and it is an 18 and over event. The show starts at 6:30 PM and runs until around 1:00 AM. As with all EDA-related events, there will most likely be a gathering prior to the concert, and possibly a Living Room Concert the next day in the Hartford area. As the plans firm up, they will be posted to this list... We hope to see many of you at SLAMfest!
