And that would be that I turned on the car radio and heard what I thought at first to be DSL. Because it sounded exactly the same except for the key. The rhythm and the chord progression. I did not say she purposely copied Tom Petty. I did not say that was wrong. Hell, I write songs and play guitar and I'm sure most of my stuff has similarities to some other songs out there whether I've heard them before or not. Sometimes I sit and rack my brain when I write a song because I wonder if this melody or those chords and rhythm combine to sound like some other song. I can't help but wonder if when someone hears it they will hear someone elses song. Anyway, my point in writing that letter was just to comment on what I heard. I heard it and I was like "Wow! Down So Long! I'll have to tell the list about this" and I knew most of you already knew but hey, I didn't. I missed it the first time around. I sometimes have to skip some of the mail. Anyway, I'm rambling now and it's late....and I have to leave for my trip tomorrow. :-) I'll have a lot of mail to check when I get back. And the first part of the mail will most likely get deleted. So if you must write me this week or maybe even next on this address, I will probably never get it. Here is one of my other addresses: saphron_sky@yahoo.com Please use it if you need to write me. :-) And I'll have to do the little back issue order thing on the list mail I miss. ;-) Amber saphron_sky@yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Sep 1999 14:58:27 +1000 (EST) From: "HILYARD,Danielle" Subject: * Jewel Kilcher Online Hi guys Does anyone have the new addy for Jewel Kilcher online? Halo everyone, I am writing today to inquire about EDA's attending the milleneum concert in Alaska. To be specific, I was wondering if any one is planning on driving up through British Columbia, Canada and if so if they will have any extra seats? Also, if there are any gatherings being planned so that we can meet others, and possibly have a place to stay when in Alaska. Please email me privately if you can help. Thanks so much. She looks perfect!! Shes beautiful and young, and sexy but not in any way trashy like a lot of people are.She has taste and I like the way she presents herself.People are just jealous cause she is so beautiful that theyre intimidated by her and are envious and therefore say negative things about her..Ever looked at the people who say theese things about her? Thats what I thought..Point is Jewel is beautiful, always has been always will be even if she were bald and wore a potato sack for a dress. I don't know if anyone else saw it, but during the season premiere of Friends, there was a commercial for 104.1 the point. It had some other artist, than a snip of the YWMFM video. As if that wasn't enough, there was Jewel!! She said something like, "I like retro."(the point plays the best of altrv. I guess you would say, and the best alt. retro.) Then she comes back and says something like "1041 the point. Do you get it?" I realize that this isn't exactly a very professional report, but, oh well! ;) SO, keep your eyes open if the point plays in your area for the great commercial!!! :) Melissa The angel who is too decisive to pick a name..someone do it for me!! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Sep 1999 19:03:00 EDT From: Poet2811@aol.com Subject: * Pay Per View Angels- I was just watching the "Preview Channel" and it said something about Mearle Haggard, so I stopped to look up- and it said that there was going to be a show on him or whatever, but it also said that it would include a duet with "Pop superstar, Jewel," So- if any of you EDA's want to check it out... So, I guess if you like Mearle too....it doesn't seem to be anything other then that one duet, so if you don't like Mearle- but do like Jewel, I would not recomend it for you...... Just thought you might be interested in a little minor Jewel news. Firstly, on the series premiere of Popular on the WB last night, a joke was made having to do with Jewel, however, it was innacurate. The students were sitting around the lunch table, and one student remarked that there was a rumor going around that "Jewel really didn't live in a van by the river." Last time I checked there were no major rivers running through San Diego. And finally, at the end of today's Total Request Live, a person on the street told everyone to vote for "Jupiter." The contest was on my web site "Water Colored Roses" (I'm going to be making a new version soon) Anyways, I want to thank you all that entered the conctest and went to my web site. Now the winners in no order: BardMern@aol.com "People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that's bullshit. love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they're afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they're wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It's all in how you carry it. Thats what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you're letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain." Angel0fDay@hotmail.com "Love is: when you don't have to question it, but you still can not define it" -me "It's hard to look in the mirror when you believe how others describe you" -me :) The winners, please email me and I will give you a list of my angelfood. Anyone who wants angelfood please email me, I will do it for you, provided you give me a tape and shipping money. I guess some line in a Jewel song (that I'm totally unfamiliar with, sorry), mentioned "Giacometti." That'd be Alberto Giacometti. To sum him up in a sentence: he was an existentialist sculptor who did a lot of work in the 1930s & 1940s. From a dead sculptor to a modern-day artist... I feel like I need to defend Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls! Maybe I read it wrong, but Amy was saying that she was blown away by how talented Jewel was! I think the Indigo-bashing girl read Amy's statement wrong. And for anyone who's ever seen Amy Ray, she's an awesome performer but she's anything but glamorous. I think she was just saying that she was able to get past the surface and appreciate Jewel's talent in spite of their superficial differences. Well, that's it. I'll be amazed if this actually shows up, but it was worth a shot... ~Michelle N. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Sep 1999 22:02:17 EDT From: Beck82@aol.com Subject: * Senior Quotes Anyone? hey i am a senior in search of THE jewel perfect senior quote...a little help please? my submission for the yearbook is due in a week so please send your favorite jewel kilcher original to: BeccaFeldy@aol.com any and all contributions would be a great, great, GREAT help. rebecca ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Sep 1999 22:39:46 EDT From: CaitAdaire@aol.com Subject: * Re: Popular Actually, she said "Yeah, and i also heard that Jewel really didnt live in her van on the river" lol oooook. EDA is sydney, In todays paper i was shocked, and very happy, to see jewel on the front page of the sydney morning herald. It was on the front page, near the large SMH title, and it says something about jewel being in 'icon' tommorrow, which is their weekly computer up date I think. The headline is 'why is jewel and other getting online?', or something like that. I pressume it has something to do with the live netaid broadcast over the net? Perhaps they will tell us the times for it in australia? How knows? Also, dont forget about the first sydney EDA gatehring which WILL take place on Wenesday the 6th of October, so not much time to get in contact with myself or Blusangel, as we need to finalise bookings and stuff........c'ya! Cheers, Alan Atlantic recording artist Jewel has announced the forthcoming release of a special benefit single in conjunction with her October 9th performance at NetAid, the live global musical event which is being staged as part of a long-term initiative to help eradicate extreme poverty. Due in stores on October 12th, the single will feature a newly recorded, previously unreleased live version of "Life Uncommon," a song from Jewel's current RIAA multi-platinum album, "SPIRIT." All of Jewel's proceeds from sales of the "Life Uncommon" single will directly benefit the Clearwater Project, a program of Higher Ground for Humanity - a non-profit organization founded by Jewel and her mother and manager, Nedra Carroll. Clearwater Project is working to bring about positive change for the millions of people around the world suffering from a lack of clean drinking water. This includes providing relief in the form of simple and affordable technologies for making contaminated water safe for drinking, as well as education and awareness programs and other initiatives. "The alarming decrease in availability of pure, safe water threatens the core of our existence," stated Jewel and Nedra Carroll. "We cannot survive without the vital resource of water, and the problem is now quite advanced in most impoverished areas. The human being has a vital role in the stewardship of our earth, and we must awaken more fully to our responsibility. Working together, we can all address this problem effectively. We are involved because something can be done." Jewel's new live version of "Life Uncommon" was recorded on September 14th, during the taping of her forthcoming appearance on the acclaimed PBS television series, "Sessions At West 54th." The song features Jewel accompanied by an orchestra and choir conducted by legendary producer and arranger Arif Mardin. Jewel's "Sessions..." appearance, slated to air nationwide beginning in late November, is a special Christmas concert which follows the November 2nd release of her new Atlantic album, "JOY - A HOLIDAY COLLECTION," produced by Mardin. On October 9th, Jewel will perform at Giants Stadium in New Jersey for NetAid. The three overlapping NetAid concerts (in New Jersey, London, and Geneva) will be simulcast around the world, bringing together the power of the Internet, the global reach of television and radio, and the live impact of world-renowned artists to inspire action against extreme poverty, one of the world's most serious problems. (Hi again! This may be mistaken on the "Sessions" airdate info. I was told it would probably be aired Christmas Night. Definitive airdate info will be on Jewel's website calendar. It will likely see multiple airings. - Alan) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #588 ***************************
