Also, I would like to find some pictures of Jewel perfoming on Rare Angels, if there are any. It would be much apprechiated. It had all the elements of a truly classic ROAD TRIP : high speed chases, reunions of friends too long seperated, fabulous live music, electric dance moves leading to a bar fight rowdiness close call, wrong turns, constant debate and stirring conversation (She really MOVES me, You WANT SOME?), loss of innocence, sight seeing, 12,000 like minded people baking in the sun, renewal of trusts, true love, sleep deprivation, and most of all....my home made tacos!! The Cast: Tony as Speed Racer (hey...joo got a job, mein?) Alex as the Singing WakeUp Call Guy (I think I got a little bit tipsy) Maddy as the Shocking Lunch Guest (These scallops are...) Sonja as the Glittery Cat Napper (ZZZzzzzzz) Jenn McBride as the Philosopher (She like totally MOVES me....) Jason as the mixed up Boy Scout (I really think we should...*insert wrong idea here*) Mike M as the Resume Dude (I'll just fake it) Gerrit as the Lone Ranger (Anybody want a ticket?) Jim as the Gathering Guru (You lost the map ALREADY!?!?!) Season and Robert as the Amazing Disappearing Couple (I swear they were just with us....) Dani as the Marathon Driver (If I leave at 3am....) Robbie as the Observant Man (I don't think the cab driver appreciates us discussing the bulletproofing and ways to assasinate him) Our Part in the story.... After a day of sight seeing with Sonja's Dad we left the city on Sat to head back to Jims house (EDA Central for the weekend). After Jenn and Mike came along we all ventured off to Chili's (where Jenn works) for a quick bite (I NEED SILVERWARE!!!!) and to meet up with Season and Robert :) Then onto McNeils Bar for the Sweet Duration/Fringe show which was well worth the drive up in it's own right. All No Cal EDAs should really check these two groups out! Our buddy Mo is the lead singer of Fringe and he is damn talented. We literally took over a good portion of the bar and upset the locals a little bit with our "San Diego" ways. It seems our brand of fun was only to be had by the too drunk to ride our bikes home fat blonde section. They decided they'd put on their fun police hats and make sure that the "SD" crew were miserable. They had taken over the dance floor forcing the girls off the stage area and generally cussing like gutter trash. Seeing as the ladies in our EDA company were just that...they were resigned to let it slide and not disrupt the show for everyone. Not on my watch :) I had a fairly subtle solution. I deftly ambled my way to the dance floor area and positioned myself to be able to intercept any of their advances towards the girls with a gentle hip check (a la Rob Blake,Los Angeles Kings). A few of those and I was dancing unimpeded around them and herding them back toward the cattle pens they sprang from. It admit to having no shame :) After that we were pretty much free to enjoy the music of the night and party down. Regretfully we had to part ways with Fringe (it was 1am and they were still playing!!) to be able to rise for the Now and Zen fest in the morning. The bright clear glittering sun-shiny day was only marred at first by the fire and brimstone preachers lambasting us with non-sensical garbage about being wrapped up in Bhudda. I told him I was wrapped up in a tortilla and Robbie out preached him to his face OVER a mega-phone. EDAs can do anything. RadioAlice puts on a good show and the others gave fairly good accounts of Jewels set. Pretty standard stuff. Saw wandering EDA Rory (email me ..yeah right, blah blah :P) Classic Jewel: forgetting the words to Foolish Games and letting the crowd sing it/give her the words, her getting hit in the head by a fan propeled item (this time Mardi Gras style beads) and then ridiculing the jerk who did it to the point of being nearly lynched by the crowd, letting Steve sing his intro to YWMFM, and giving what for to their crappy sound guy for his non-efforts :) All in all a good show. BTW, glitter sun block ROCKS!!! After an hour long oddessy trying to get a cab company to come for us all and hangin on a cool set of front steps to this old brownstone we headed back to Jim's. I whipped up a batch of my world famous tacos and Tony went to work on the margaritas to cool us down after a long hot day. Throw in a day at Fishermans wharf (ahh the seafood!) with the SoCal set and we had a pretty full weekend. Those of you who went to the Zen Fest and might have liked to do some of this stuff should join the North California EDA list for Gatherings at edanocal-subscribe@endor.org. Things are going to be hopping up there soon and you don't want to miss out ;) Thanks again to all of my EDA buds that helped to make this weekend such a great road trip! Pics and more will soon be gracing the various sites we have for So Cal. Gatherings are where it's at people...if you aren't Gathering ...you are missing 3/4 of the fun. Get out and GATHER!!!! It just always seems that when they sing YWMFM that they are actually singing to each other. But anyway, I had thought she was seeing Ty Murray... I guess we'll never know and I guess it's none of our business really but ya can't help but wonder, esp when it's someone we admire. oh and just to add, I was watching the Jewel Biorythm again yesterday and I started to cry. The new take, recorded earlier this month during her taping for PBS performance series "Sessions At West 54th," will be released Oct. 12; proceeds from its sales are earmarked for the Clearwater Project, which works to increase access to clean drinking water for people around the world. The new version of the track, which originally appears on the Atlantic artist's latest album, "Spirit," features Jewel accompanied by an orchestra and choir conducted by noted producer/arranger Arif Mardin. Jewel's "Sessions..." appearance is slated to air across the U.S. beginning in late November. The performance is a special Christmas concert that will follow the Nov. 2 release of her new album, "Joy - A Holiday Collection." Produced by Mardin, "Joy" will include renditions of such holiday standards as "Silent Night," "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "Winter Wonderland," and "Ave Maria," as well as a gospel medley encompassing the spiritual standard "Go Tell It On The Mountain," Jewel's "Life Uncommon," and the Bette Midler tune "From A Distance." In addition, Jewel will perform Oct. 9 at the NetAid concert at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The three overlapping NetAid concerts (in New Jersey, London, and Geneva) will be simulcast around the world. The events aim to inspire action against extreme global poverty. Jewel also will join country legend Merle Haggard at his concert Oct. 2 at the Hilton Showroom in Las Vegas. The event, billed "Merle Haggard: For The Record," will be broadcast live on pay-per-view. Jewel duets with Haggard on two songs on his new disc, also called "For The Record." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Sep 1999 14:45:01 EDT From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: * Re: Every Day Angels Foundation (message from the Philippines) Well, I guess I would be the guilty party you saw on Jewel TV! Sounds like your organization is doing some great work, Ian. I'd love to hear more about it. The EveryDay Angels Foundation has been encouraging people to become active in their communities for about 2 years now! Our formal events have focused mainly on the basic needs - food, shelter, clothing - as well as children and the environment. So far we've done 5 or 6 beach cleanups, spent several mornings at different foodbanks, held clothing drives and blood drives, etc. It's been a lot of fun and very rewarding! If anyone wants to find out more about the EDAF, you can email me at w1ggy2@aol.com or the board of directors at edaf-board@smoe.org or check out our website at www.everydayangels.org. We also send out periodic newsletters to this list to keep everyone informed about upcoming and recent events, so watch for those! :-) Amy On Fri, 24 Sep 1999, Ian Delfin wrote: > >greetings angels! > I saw Jewel TV on MTVasia and there was a >someone from the audience who said she was from the >every day angels foundation(EDAF) and she said that >the group was a volunteeer organization.
