After many EDA gatherings and activities this summer, the EDAF continues to bring together everyday angels to make a difference in our communities this fall... *** THANKS, BEACH SWEEPERS! *** This past weekend's beach cleanup in South Amboy, NJ was a resounding success! The weather was perfect and 13 EDAs showed up from NJ/NY, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts to free "Angel Beach" of trash and debris. We collected 30 bags of trash, including 190 plastic bottle caps, 170 plastic utensils, 173 straws, 283 glass bottles, 125 plastic food wrappers, 89 cans, lots of rope, several tires and a Teletubby! (La-La, for those interested :-) Once again, the cigarette butt count was surprisingly low at "only" 97. Afterwards, we decided to break with the "Denny's" tradition and try a new restaurant. Well, how could we NOT eat at a place called Big Ed's Barbeque when their parking lot is surrounded with PLYWOOD ANIMALS?!? In fact, as we were passing by, we had to slam on the brakes, nearly causing a six car EDA pileup because Woody mooed so much in the back seat after spotting the plywood barnyard menagerie! We swung by the Campbell's new house (the Campbell Inn #2?) and brought Rob, Tammy and the girls along for lunch. After filling up on delicious barbeque ribs, chicken and other non-plywood delicacies, we headed to Funmania to play (ride on) the Harley motorcycle games. Unfortunately, they were out of order, so we consoled ourselves by playing air hockey and the four player head-to-head racecar game instead, which Abel utterly dominated... Thanks to everyone who attended; it was a great day. The next cleanup of our New Jersey adopted beach will be in the spring. Thanks also to the West Coast EDAs who went to the cleanup in southern California. Great job, guys! There are many beach cleanups held across the United States over the next several weeks. To find one in your area, either email us at EDAFinfo@aol.com or go online: www.cmc-ocean.org/cleanupbro/index.php3 *** WINTER BLANKET AND CLOTHING DRIVE *** We are also looking into ways to collect and distribute much needed winter clothing and blankets in as many areas as possible. Anyone interested in helping with this program please email us at EDAFinfo@aol.com. *** FALL AND WINTER FOODBANK VOLUNTEERING *** With Thanksgiving and Christmas quickly approaching, people become more aware of the hunger problem. However, hunger organizations (foodbanks, soup kitchens and community pantries) often have TOO MANY volunteers during these two holiday weeks, and not enough help in October, early November and the weeks BETWEEN Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you'd like to learn more about hunger, take a few minutes and visit the Second Harvest Foodbank Network website at: www.secondharvest.org The EDAF has partnered with Second Harvest on many occasions, and will lend a hand in the coming months as well. If you're interested in helping out too, email us at EDAFinfo@aol.com. *** WELCOME TO THE NEWEST EDAF MEMBERS *** The EDAF would like to also welcome our newest supporting members: Lori, Jason and Sonya (SoCal), Tina (NY), Laura (MA), Dan (NJ), Susana (RI) and Rowdy (TX). Anyone wishing to work on any of the programs the EDAF has planned, or having suggestions for other programs, is encouraged to step forward and help make them happen! :-) Amy, Dennis and Tom for The EveryDay Angels Foundation ********************************************************* The EveryDay Angels Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation whose mission is to promote grassroots volunteerism and community involvement. The newest EveryDay Angels t-shirt, produced by The EveryDay Angels Foundation, has been very popular! We are already out of small and XXL sizes, and have only 15 medium and XL shirts left. (We still have a good supply of large shirts, but you may want to email us at EDAFinfo@aol.com first to verify that we have any in your specific size...) This shirt is a natural cream color "textured" 100% cotton shirt with four color printing on the front and two colors on the back. The front has the colorful EDAF logo on it, and the back says "EVERYDAY ANGELS" in blue to green graduated colors. Images of the front and back designs can be seen online at: http://www.edaf.org/edashirt.html On the same page is also posted a picture of several EDAs wearing the shirts at this past summer's HGH/Bearsville workshop. It's the only known picture that has both Woody the Plywood Cow AND Jewel's brother Shane in it! ;-) These shirts are NOT for sale, but The EveryDay Angels Foundation is giving one as a "thank you gift" to angels making a minimum donation of $15 to the Foundation! Send your check or money order donations payable to "EDAF" to: EDA Shirts c/o Dennis Harris PO Box 305 East Taunton, MA 02718 Shirts are available immediately, and will be sent out as soon as your donation is received. You will also receive a receipt for your charitable donation. Jewel was great.. Anyone who taped it, look to the very first award when the writers of one of the Dixie Chicks' songs (WOS or TYT) walk up.. They pass by Jewel and her date, I'm assuming.. He was wearing a cowboy hat and blue jeans. Did she get back with Chris Douglas? I really like the performance, as most of the others have. She and Merle got one of the only standing o's of the evening.. Dixie Chicks and Sara Evans were awesome too, even though I was about to strangle Shania Twain (again).. You thought it was Steve Poltz or something, right?) Anyway, humor aside, I am really interested in seeing the CMA duet or at least a picture of it. Can someone post a clip on their site? A video capture at least? Sounds like you all liked it a lot. One thing needs comment--one EDA said that "country is not that far from folk" about Jewel doing country. Um, Jewel doesn't do folk. She does Jewel. Just ask her! She really isn't a folk-artist type of singer, she is Jewel (i.e. unique). The press is always saying "folk this" and "folk that" about her, and I don't think that is accurate. Too much pigeonholing! Also, I happen to like the Dixie Chicks. I thought Jewels Spirit album was 100% pure joyous Jewel. I can't believe someone said it was "overproduced"! It was more like "polished"--everyone knows a polished gem is worth more! If any country album she produced sounded remotely like either of these (Chicks or Spirit), it would be great. However, what I REALLY think is that if Jewel did a country album, it would be uniquely Jewel, and it would be wonderful. Anything she does is wonderful. I can't wait to get the christmas album!!!!!!!! When is it going to be released?? Currently I have an Amy Grant christmas album that is good, and a Hanson christmas album even. But a *JEWEL* christmas album... whoa! Now let me remind you that if Jewel did a country album, she would not sacrifice her voice, or change it I'm sure. She would still sound awesome like Jewel does, but just with country songs and music that she could write! How cool is that? Let her sing opera, I don't care. The more Jewel the better! More albums please! I was curious about one thing though that maybe you all could help me with. Why do you think she would want to do a country album? Any ideas? Just for fun or variety? What do you think? I have the OZ CD (case in point about her sounding good no matter what type of music!) and you can get it at Amazon music. (Amazon.com) Last time I checked, it was inexpensive and in-stock for immediate shipment! It took about 3 days to get it from the time I ordered it from them. Happy Jewelling! I just wanted you all to know that this show is syndicated and not necessarily on your NBC station (it's on ABC in my town at 1:30am). Since it's a syndicated show, it can be on just about any station in your area, with a strong likelihood (but not guaranteed), that IF you get the show, it would be on your CBS, NBC, ABC, WB or UPN network affiliate, and the most likely broadcast times would NOT be during Prime Time. (I am not at all informed as to whether or not this show is picked up by any Canadian stations) So, please check your local listing carefully, and look anywhere from 2:00pm all the way to 3:00am or so. She was very respectful to him, and even made sure she didn't drown him out (which she easily could have done, her voice is so powerful!). I could also tell she was nervous (and even shyish at the end of the song), which I feel is a very sweet attribute in one so talented. Of cours, she also looked so lovely (as always)...... How proud I am of her, and of being one of her many fans and admirers. What excellent taste we EDA's have. **smiling at you all** P.S. Hello EDA's! Wasn't Jewel awesome last night? She sure did look beautiful. I really hope she does a country album. I don't know how many of you like country, but I love it. Jewel would be a great country singer. I just hope Jewel does what is going to make her the happiest. Jewel grew up in the country, and that is where her 'roots' are. Another tid bit of information that you should all know is that the guy Jewel was sitting with last night at the CMA's was Ty Murray. He is currently leading the points in the PBR (Professional Bull Riders). My best friend worked for the PBR and heard that Ty was seeing Jewel, so that's how I know this. Maybe this is why she is getting into country. Have a great day, EDA's.
