Hi All, Just recieved a very happy call from BiBi & Jewel's long awaited home video project was officially finished last night at 3:00AM! It is currently being readied for release. The video, titled "A Life Uncommon", features an hour of vintage archival footage of Jewel's life both on & off the road as well as four complete performances filmed earlier this year in Los Angeles at a private benefit concert for Higher Ground For Humanity. Interviews with those closest to Jewel reveal what her life is like "behind the scenes" & fans are sure to enjoy. The video is currently being scheduled for release to coincide with Jewel's forthcoming album in November & will be available in stores for the holiday season. I'll put the complete accurate "Sessions at West 54th Street" setlist on the setlist page at Jewel's website tomorrow. Just got back from NYC & will catalogue the details later today. I enjoyed chatting with many of you! What a great night! I'm kinda in the Christmas spirit now ; ). Jewel's voice was amazing as asual... and every time I see her live I'm just stunned at what a terrific artist she is. And she's so funny and friendly too! Like in between songs while they were fixing something she'd talk to the crowd. One of the things she talked about was The Clearwater Project. Its the new charity that Jewel and Nedra are doing and its to clean the water in 3rd world countries. As she was talking about it I kinda got an idea... I was thinking that it would be great if we could all get some money together for the charity, and then give it to Jewel from the EDAs. We could get someone that everyone could send the money to, and then he or she could write the check to donate to the charity. I don't know if this will work, and I don't know how hard it will be. But with a group this big its so easy to make a difference... even if each one of us just donated a few dollars. And I think it would really mean something to Jewel. Well. that was just my idea. Email me if you're interested. - -Jen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Sep 1999 14:31:07 -0700 (PDT) From: UnicornDreamer2@webtv.net (\(\\o/\)Crystal\(\\o/\)) Subject: * Chat dialoge Hi ~Angels~ This might be really old and some of you might already have read or know about it, but today I stumbled across something on the MTV website, a chat dialoge from way back in the day. Some say that she didn't talk inbetween songs, some say she did. Some say she left right away, and some say she played some accoustic songs afterwords as kind of a treat. It's just kind of confusing me. And it also confuses me how anyone could be disapointed with an opportunitie as great as that. It's a great city and I know of quite a few EDA's in or near the area (including myself). I always feel like I'm missing out on something great; for example, Sessions in New York or the (very often) gatherings in California. There are many places in Houston we could get together. There are also a lot of places that could use volunteers, I'm sure.. So, for those who live in Houston, I'm encouraging you to arrange a gathering! The Astroworld gathering flopped, but I know that with perserverance (and a great itenerary) we could do this! The full online article is here.....the Jewel text is below http://www.usatoday.com/life/enter/movies/lfilm970.htm Steve The Indie Angel JEWEL TIME: She's the Jewel in the crowd of Civil War characters galloping through Ride With the Devil, holding her own against Skeet Ulrich, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Tobey Maguire. But it can get pretty inane meeting the press. Like when a reporter asked Jewel whether it's any different making a two-hour, 14-minute epic and a four-minute music video. "Hah?" she looked back in disbelief. The chanteuse fit right in with director Ang Lee and scriptwriter James Schamus, the team behind The Ice Storm. "I had nothing to do with the music, " Jewel says, adding, "I had my plate full trying to get my job done as an actress." Her character is a Southern widow giving aid and comfort to a gang of Southern gentleman irregulars waging guerrilla war on Northern sympathizers. It's her lot to bury more than one husband, something fate seems to resupply. Was she confident she could handle it? "No," she says succinctly. How'd she overcome her fears? "Ang." Is that how you think it happens in real life, too - men and marriage keep falling out of the sky? I think that this will be a great way to get your hands on that piece of Angelfood you're dying to have. (I won't be responsible for you getting your Angelfood - you'll have to contact the owner for information.) I realize that it's quite a bit like the Angelfood Bank, but unlike the bank, whose selection is limited, you can ask for anything and I'm sure you'll get it. Please visit and tell me what you think! Hi Angels! I thought that Sessions last night was absolutely amazing. Just being so close to Jewel was awesome. I loved the setlist she did especially The Face of Love" and "O Holy Night." I've only heard "The Face Of Love" from my Jewelstock tapes, so, hearing it live, was so great. I think her Christmas album is going to be awesome. You could tell by the way she was performing. I was a little disapointed about how the people that worked at Sessions were rushing her to finish- she didn't even play until 11. I thought it was cool that she had to sing everything like 3 times! I loved hearing it! I also saw Jewel in her dressing room as I was leaving- poor girl she looked so tired. I also thought that Sessions was a really great time to meet some EDAs. I met like 5 or 6 but I can't remember any names. Hehe. Anyway, I thought Sessions was totally awesome and I am so glad I got the opportunity to go. See ya Angels later! As a member of the Harris Gallery last night, I can assure you Jewel wasn't (distressed). A lot of people don't realize what a good sense of humor she has (her sarcasm often gets her in trouble because it doesn't come across well in print). Last night, I think it all started when Jewel started gargling her water in sort of a rythym during a break and everyone laughed and Derrick in front of me said something strange about tempo that she didn't understand. He and a few others in our section had already chatted back and forth with her a little bit (don't ask me why WE were the only goofy section! And you really can't blame it on Dennis, for once, because he only spoke once!). Anyway, she then looked at us funny and said something like "you guys are retarded......but I love that you're retarded!" That's when someone else said "you inspire us to be retarded" (which was a little odd), then she said " I'm just going to ignore that" or something. Anyway, it was all in fun, believe me. She was smiling and/or making silly faces the whole time. RELAX! This crazyness is not something we should allow to happen. Truly loving Jewel and her work is an aesthetic, and spiritual thing. It feeds the soul. It is not physical, does not involve grabbing her or things she has touched. Do you realize how contrary this all is to what she is all about? Heck, I get excited too when I see her because I love her so much. We are EDA's because we are the quiet people waiting in the wings (no pun intended) to help her and support her, not to compete to get in front of her or grab something of hers. Fame sucks that way. Like I said in that post a few weeks ago--I think Jewel really sacrificed a lot to promote her music and share it with us all like she does. Fame isolates, and changes life so drastically. It is weird that someone even felt it was necessary to point out that she is a real person!! Of course she is! Let's be kind to her if we can and not bother her so much. A smile would be nice instead of running her down for an autograph like an Impala on the savannah. (See how I worked the word "Impala" in there--nice eh?). When Jewel waved at me at the Knoxville concert, I just gave her my warmest look and a smile. I didn't try to run up to her or anything. She was talking to someone. Let me be the first one to say that I really love Jewel. Like you people dont even know. But I would never even ask for an autograph if I met her out of concern that it might bother her. I realize this is important to a lot of people though, just be considerate about it even if there are many others competing for the same thing. It is hard I'm sure, but please try! Anyway, here's to the finer things in life, Jewel's gift being right up there! Alan ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Sep 1999 20:28:55 -0400 From: "Dominick Cericola" Subject: * My Two Cents On Last Night's _Sessions_ Taping.. Hey, hey, All..! I will try not to reiterate a lot of what has already been said so far about last night's _Sessions_ taping (would have done by comments earlier than this, but I have been sleeping off and on, as I didn't get home until 7 AM this morning -- got stuck in Trenton!).. First off.. The EDAs! As I am new to the list (but no stranger to Jewel's music), I wanted to go to this taping, not just for Jewel, but a chance to meet everyone/make new friends. It didn't quite turn out that way (prob. due to the fact that we were all trying to stay in a kinda-sorta line along the way of the Sony building).. I did make friends with one of the many EDAs who share the first name of Amy (*G*), a very cool EDA who came up all the way from Miam, as well as another young lady whose name eludes me at the moment (I do remember her saying she went to a similar taping that MTV did w/Mariah Carey) but who was quite charming and whose father was a hell of lot cooler than mine ever was.. Plus, there was Dave, my guest, from the list.. A hell of a guy, with interesting stories to tell, a fellow writer, and someone with as dry a sense of humor as mine.. Cheers to all of you..! :) My only regret was I didn't get to go with any of the EDAs who were s'posed to be getting together after the taping. It would have have been nice, but after the taping, everyone kind of went their separate ways. Ah well... As for the Sessions taping..For me, it was a unique experience. I've done radio shows before, but this was altogether different. Jewel held up well, only requiring only three re-takes -- "Joy To The World", "Gloria", and her new, gospel-eque version of "Life Uncommon" (hands down my favorite song that evening, and STILL my favorite track from _Spirit_). It was great to see her Mom there.. She is really must more beautiful in person -- it's fascinating to see the two perform together, it's like a mirror into Jewel's future. I guess Life in Alaska must really be that good -- gotta be better than Joisey.. I guess the best way to sum it up is this.. Yeah, it was a Christmas special.. It was September, and a bit on the humid side.. BUT, once Jewel started singing, I felt a real sense of Christmas Spirit! One final note regarding the taping.. I know this was an unadvertised, invite-only event. And, the EDAs were invited. However, I saw several folks (not all of whom were suits and such from the music trade) sporting VIP passes, which from what I could piece together, allowed them to meet with Jewel before the taping. What I'd like to know is how they were able to get those and we weren't? Anyone care to take a stab at this one? Actually, one other other final note, kinda related to the above.. I have to agree with Kelli Coppens on this. It was kind of a disappointment when Jewel and Nedra left, whisked away quicker than The Doctor and his TARDIS. I figured as it was invite-only, and based on what others have commented/written about past invites, like _Storytellers_. I hope it wasn't due to the comments/actions of some of the fans that evening.. Okay, that's it, gang. I've used up the last of my reserves of energy. Despite the early hour, I am going back to bed. Good night, and may all your Dreams be merry and bright.. I actually sat in the gallery and there was really nothing to insane going on, just a little banter back and forth. I don't think, by the reaction that Jewel was upset in any way. Far be it from me to say what she thinks, but that's based on what I saw. Why would this stop her from inviting people to these tapings? I'm sure she'd rather have people there than not. It's not like the gallery was whooping and hollering, and screwing up the taping. I'm not flaming anyone's post here. I just don't want people who didn't go to get the wrong impression. It was on the playful side, not on the crude and obnoxious. Jeff The Angel Who Just Arrived Here From the Coast === Jeff http://www.agevision.com/freeze-out "I've got my Bob Dylan mask on.
