Hey EDA's, I get the general vibe that we are not all impressed by Jewel's filmclip and song for various reasons, so here's my 10c! i) In relation to the argument that the song is totaly different to the version on the album, its her song, she can do what she damn well fells like doing to it!!!!!! Anyway, i wasn't really all that surprised, Jewel did the same with Foolish Games. ii) The filmclip - Firstly, people say they dont like it, and it's going to take me a while to get used to all the flashing and such, but i think it will be good for Jewel becuase it will appeal to a wider audience. What I mean is that everyone I speak to about says they dont like her becuase of the Foolish Games filmclip, because it was cute, romantic ect. And its so sassy and sexy, it will appeal to many more people.......and if heared some people say that in the program that aired in the us, that Jewel said it was uncharacteristic for her to make such a filmclip, but hey she's just taking a chance. For me its better than rapping herslef in cotton wool! I think its a great clip, and so sexy, especially when she does that lip thingy! Anyways, that's what I think, if anyone cares! I 2nd, 3rd and 100th that notion!!! :))))... I can't believe I didn't think of that before... But as I was just reading the last three digests I put in One Left Shoe for "readthrough music"... and it came to mind how cool it would be if Poltzie did something like JewelStock (I bet that he would have an original idea about the name of the event and maybe even venue)... and not more than a couple minutes later I run into Jenni's post... YEAH!!!!!! :)) That would rule... and I bet Steve would have no objections... of course that wouldn't be a replacement for JewelStock... I'm not saying it can't be just as great... but it's no way the same! And also I think rugburns list would possibly be more appropriate to start things going OR??? Now another thing I forgot to mention about "against JewelStock" movement :), that repeated recently... is the why are we on this list more special than all the others so that only we would get access to JewelStock???? OH COME ON!!!!!! Why is my sister more special than me so that she has a great singing voice... and I don't?!?!?! Why are those people who got the tickets for the last Knicks-Spurs final more special than the guy who couldn't in any way obtain one! ... fill in the whatever convinces you example from the real life and write down a whole bunch!!! You'll see eventually that the answer to the why only we for JewelStock is simple... because we happen to be here!!!!! Because we are the part of this list... this on-line fan club of Jewel's!! If that makes us privileged for some things... HALLELUJAH!!!!!!! Life's everything but fair!!! Like of course as I mentioned it wouldn't do me much good... but still it's the principle and the feeling of the thing that's important!! There's no big philosophy needed... not to mention that some other bands are doing bunch of stuff for their on-line fan clubs... because it's easier, cheaper... and THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ALL... THE ONE THAT MADE JEWELSTOCK A SUCCESS EVEN IN JEWEL's EYES IS... IT'S A REWARDING THING TO DO... FOR THE ARTIST!!! Having only the people from the core of your fan base! Those who can best connect to your music... those with highest appreciation for what you do... the most enthusiastic suporters... the kind that would be thrilled to hear songs they never heard before... on that concert for the first time (as opposed to some people finding it boring).... so the artist can totally be who they are... and do what they do best and with greatest pleasure... without the unnecessary pressure. When you can say a concert was a complete success... when every single participant enjoyed in the event and everything around it!!! Again I wasn't there... but can anyone say it's absolutely not true! And the last thing I wanna mention... Jupiter is at #7 on Slovenian TOP 40 it's 5th week on! And I just heared on Monday the new version on the radio after I made the request for it. I gotta say it's much better than album version... that one is rather dull! What makes us more special than Jewel's other fans? We're on a mailing list, that's what. Sure, the EDA's mean something to Jewel, but really, aren't all the fans Everyday Angels? We all enjoy Jewel's music and admire her for all of her accomplishments. We have Angelfood and get togethers. So what? >> Umm, I completely disagree. While I can't speak of Jewel's feelings, I know EDAs are special. I stay on this list because we like other EDAs, I like hanging out with EDAs and I enjoy this little community we've built up over the years. Or an organization...a group of people.. so even if we didn't have a "Jewelstock" I think like atleast every 6 months or every year there should be like an event for Jewel and the EDAs.. sort of like a storytellers type of thing, just to keep her fans still close to her even if she is really famous. I'm also kicking myself because I don't remember this one song. She said it was a new one she just wrote and it was the first one, not off of either Pieces of You or Spirit. Please let me know, thanks Back in mid-autumn of 1996, the EDAs wanted to do something special to thank Jewel for the JewelStock tapes, which were treed on this list just then. I'm not sure how this idea was finalized/decided on, but it ended up being a project where letters (emails) were sent to a list member who printed them out nicely, had them bound and sent to Jewel around Thanksgiving-time 1996. The emails also contained a lot of "thank yous" for JewelStock itself, and thanks in general. I am not sure as to the final number of emails/letters that ended up being sent to Jewel, but I am thinking it was in the 180 range. Below is the response Jewel had in regards to this. Mike :-) Posted on Jewel@smoe.org December 1st, 1996: Dear Angels, A lot has been on my mind lately---I've been quite pre-occupied with my new album and, Lord forbid, I've been watching MTV! Which is never good for me. I start thinking 'How did I ever sell even one album?!'. When I see all those ultra-cool hipsters, or the super slick all-hype fast-talkers I look at myself and think, 'My next album doesn't even stand a chance. I'm too dorky, simple, retarded, etc. etc.'. So I was walking around with quite a too-serious look on my face when I saw this JewelStock Thanksgiving folder in my file on Lenedra's desk. It was so reasurring and timely to read that sincerity really counts and emotion touches people. I can do that!--so what a great reminder! Thankx to all of you for loving what I love to do! You help make my dream possible and keep my spirits high with all your lovely notes and gifts. I hope I return the kindness in my work. To elaborate on what Mike posted, I'll give you a little background info on exactly what happened: Prior to that 1996 Thanksgiving, Jewel was in Europe on a solo tour that was quite grueling & with low attendance almost every night (Only 5 people turned up at one show!). Needless to say, she was kinda bummed out at the time. On the other hand, EDAs were still basking in that "post-Jewelstock glow" & had recently received the Jewelstock Tapes, so they were in a particularly "thankful" mood. I was receiving some wonderful heartfelt EDA messages at this time for my production work on the Jewelstock Tapes & asking me to thank Jewel for everything. I planned on privately passing these messages on to Jewel, so she could see how much everyone here enjoyed her kindness, when AmyJo (my wife) suggested it would be a nice gesture to compile all EDA messages that were specifically related to Jewelstock & give them all to her. This had never been done before & I thought it was a good idea so I implemented it on the list. Many EDAs emailed us incredibly eloquent messages! We were blown away by many of them! I wish I could show you all this, but out of respect for those who wrote & way too much follow up work to get permission, we thought it inappropriate to share these personal messages to Jewel, Nedra, Mike & me (without permission). Anyway, Amyjo & I compiled all these messages into a bound volume & called it "A Jewelstock Thanksgiving". With Nedra's helping hand, Jewel "discovered" it on Thanksgiving which happened to coincide with her return home from that disappointing tour. Needless to say, she enjoyed it very much & the timing was perfect. Thus ends EDA Listlore 101 for today. Recess!
