Hello EDA's, I am full aware of the up-and-coming EDA gathering at Astroworld, but seeing as I can't go, I'd like to get another one started. If there are any EDA's who live in southwest Louisiana (or somewhere fairly near DeRidder), I was wondering if anyone would like to get together and do something fun. I'm pretty short on ideas right now, but I think an EDA picnic, jamming to Jewel, would be a lot of fun. If you're interested, please email me [punkerchick@tinted.net] because I'll need help organizing things and will need to start a list. If this works out I hope we can have it in mid to late September. Thanks EDAs. I think this will be a great way to meet and have fun. Gates opened at 5. My friends and I went walking while my brother bought a beer and sat w/ his friends. Soon after, we stopped off at the merchandise stand where I spent 50 bucks on a shirt (The Black tour shirt), the "We are Loved Poster" and the tour book..The prices are outrageous but that is...BEYOND THE POINT! Anyway, so, Rusted root came on and they RAWKED! They were very awesome! I've never heard them before so i can't really tell you what they played but one of the best opening acts i've ever seen, personally. And I've seen MANY! Anyway, Steve came on and he was soooo hilarious! He played 3 that stick out, "Kiss Your Ass", "Gold's Gym Guy" and "Silver Lining" ohh, and the Star Wars Song and Little Red Corvette..okay, so..5 that stick out! Anyway, he had the audience laughing, 'specially the people around me! They were all cracking up! He has such a wonderful low voice! Anyway, he kept on and, I love Steve and all but..i wanted to see Jewel! So, after about 45 minutes, I got a bit antsy. But! I stuck with it and Enjoyed Steven Joseph Poltz! Okay, Jewel comes on around 9 something. Dressed beautifully in her Blue Tube Top and Black skirt with CUTE Shoes! She opened with Near You Always. Which was so graceful and absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Then, she went into "What's Simple is True". A very nice version. Much like the album version, In my opinion, but still, very pretty! Hands was hilarious! she kept saying "if i could tell the world just one thing....i was concieved in a fit of mormon passion" and after about 3 verses of nonsense, finally went into the actual song but when she stopped for the audience to say "We're all okay"..it was very...i repeat VERY sad as to how "Lively" they were. Anyway, the concert ventured on...She and Steve were so CUTE on "YWMFM", he gave her a peck on the cheek! Their harmony is sooooo wonderful! And when she did her first real upbeat song, she told the audience "STAND UP YOU LAZY BASTARDS!". These 4 or 5 girls behind us were very not happy because they didn't stand up and didn't like that we were standing up. Oh well, finally, they stood up! Foolish Games could have afforded a little more "oomph" it was beautifully done but the "drive" just was not there! I was expecting her to do something triumphant and somewhat grand! But oh well, she was WONDERFUL over all! Her encore was a beautifully done "Absence of Fear". It was very emotional. Chimebells..well, that was quite...compact. It was one verse, then yodeling..I was like "uhhh?" she kinda left me hangin'! - --Out of a 10, i give her an 11! She was wonderful, beautiful, and sounded angelic! Bravo! Sorry i didn't get to meet any EDAs! I looked but found none. Who was the EDA w/ the sign down in...Gold Circle or whatever that said "EDA ==something==" and "Carnivore" (2 pieces of Beige paper...)??? I saw you! Haha... Peace and Musical Dreams, Tiffany. A Bigger Angel than Before.. And whoever did not go missed a wonderful concert! But it was cool because you could actually see (sometimes!) Still, seats were empty and it would not make me feel good as an artist if it were that empty! i would prefer to feel "crowded" as opposed to "empty" y'know? But that's what I like about Jewel, i feel as though she's our little secret. Sort of our vent from the industrialized, manufactured pop circuit! She's STILL THEE BEST! The fact is, there won't be another JewelStock. When Jewel kindly agreed to do a free show for EDA's several years ago, she was still a relative unknown. Out of my friends, maybe 2 had even heard of her. There were at the most 300 EDA's subscribed to the list. There are now, I believe, somewhere in the vicinity of 2,500. She also has millions of fans who aren't EDA's. It would be logistically impossible to organize, even if Jewel was interested. But mainly I want to say YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT!! Think about this for a minute: Jewel has been touring this country steadily for the past 5 years. Anyone who truly has wanted to see her, or wants to see her now, can go to a concert somewhere, even if it involves some travelling. So, why do you think 300 people came from all over the country to Bearsville, NY? For a Jewel concert? No, as I said, there has been no dearth of those. Because it was free? No, the expenses of the trip far exceeded the cost of a ticket. Because there would be lots of other EDA's there? YES!!! That's why JewelStock was so special and that's why there is a reunion in Bearsville every year. We don't need Jewel to have a "JewelStock". We just need each other. Luckily, we have that! If you want to experience the feeling of JewelStock, go to a gathering! Get involved! Join the EDAF! There are things happening every day. If there's not one near you, then make one! Organize a gathering; hold a Living Room Concert! Most of all, and at the risk of sounding like a bad Hallmark card.....make YOURSELF the star of your own life! Then you won't feel like you have to put so much faith in Jewel (or anyone else, for that matter). :-) Amy Greg wrote: >I think there should be another Jewelstock... >It's been awhile since the last one and I think we >need this, especially for those people who are losing faith in Jewel(for >no >apparent reason). SOMEONE NEEDS TO TALK TO JEWEL!!! This would be a great >Christmas present :~) Or Birthday present (Feb 9) or even a great no-reason >present :~) Jewel, if you can hear me....PLEASE HAVE ANOTHER JEWELSTOCK!!! ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #497 ***************************
