Honestly, it's been like 2 or 3 >months since the last time i've seen 'Down so long' here in the Netherlands, and really, that just s.u.c.k.s. Yep, Jewel gets like no media-coverage. The last time was Pinkpop, but at that time it was really quite a lot for her standard.. Paul de Leeuw, Pinkpop, 2 op 1(concert on Tv-channel), a mag here and there. BUt I agree.. where was the media when DSL was released... A girlfriend of mine, who likes Jewel, didn't even know DSL was released, let alone Jupiter... PLus Jewel gets hardly any airplay.. just Foolish games and Hands here and there... I was quite surprised.. I went to the movies yesterday (10 things I hate about you.. Kat is soo cute) and went for a bite to eat at Burger King where they actually played DSL... wow! >We don't have some station called VH1 which airs jewel specials. No. I've had it for 3 months... pop-up video rulez.. I saw YWMFM like 15 times.. MTV, TMF & the Box hardly play her... though the Box had YWMFM in the selection I think last week... >She gets absolutely no attention here, and maybe that's one of the reasons >why Jewel isn't that popular here. If you're talking to someone about >music, and you tell that person you like Jewel, they go like: "Who? Oh. The >girl from that nice piano tune right? What was it called? Oh .. indeed.. >foolish games." Absolutely, and then they go, yeah she's cute.. That annoys me... I mean yeah Jewel is cute.. but you don't listen to her music, don't know what she stands for, know her as in how she comes across in the media.. If she's so cute, why don't you check out more.. And when you got them to listen to some tunes they say: "she must be a nice artist, but i don't like it that much." Yep, all my friends think she can sing very well.. But.... Though I made 3 friends like Jewel and buy her albums :) >Last time i've heard a Jewel song on the radio was when I called >radio3fm,which is one of the biggest national stations here, and requested >'you were meant for me'. That's cool, they don't take many requests... what show? >You American EDAs must be so lucky :). Or are dutch people just plain >stupid? Both, *lol* >Anyway, apart from the cons, it has some pros too ofcourse :). This way, it >feels kinda exclusive :). I guess it's fun to listen to American stuff which isn't (very) popular in Holland (Jewel, Dave MAtthews, Lit, Blink 182, Slipknot etc.) > ~ "Jag har ingen lust att höra på dumma blå elefanter!" My brother was going to go, but he and his friend both have school/work that day. So now, my parents don't want me going there by myself. (even though I'm almost 20). So I was wondering, if in fact I could convince my parents to get a ride from someone, is there anyone by Jacksonville, St Augustine, or who'll be passing through Flagler County, or near Flagler County (Palm Coast, Bunnell, Flagler Bch)? I could drive to Daytona probabaly to meet someone, but my folks don't want me driving 3 1/2 hrs to Tampa. Anyways, if I can't get a ride, I'll have to sell the tickets. Doubt I could though. Hell, if I can get a ride, I'll still have to sell 2. Anyways, sorry to have to post this to the list Thanks for any help anyone might give, Peace, Kelly ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 06:36:42 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: * Official Jewel mechandise you bought defective? Then call JMerch! Hi everyone :-) People still have been writing in asking about defective Jewel Spirit Tour books and some other stuff that was "bad", so below is a re-post of an email I recently sent to the list on what to do about it. Please note, this ONLY is for merchandise purchased either at the online Jewel Store at the official Jewel website ( http://www.jeweljk.com ) or at a Jewel Spirit Tour show. Mike :-) ******* Re-post: I just got off the phone with Mike at JMerch. (for new folks, that is the official Jewel Store) I called him to relate to him the number of Instant Messages and emails I've recently received either personally or through the list which were about defective merchandise either purchased online from JMerch or at a Jewel concert. Most were about the Spirit Tour book, which is a problem they know about. (It seems there have been many defective ones, including the one I received a few days ago...some "environmentally safe glues" just ain't doing the trick) Basically, he said that if you purchased something defective either through them online, mail order, or official Jewel merchandise at a Jewel concert, to please call them at their toll free number 877-295-3935 and they will make ammends (or you can email them at customerservice@jeweljk.com ). To visit the Jewel Store online, head to http://www.jeweljk.com and once you navigate the "browser choice" page, click on "Window". But didnt she go to high school elsewhere? I know the name of the school, but for some reason the name seems to be eluding me at the moment. The first thing that popped in my head when they told me that story was, "I wonder if they are lying?" I mean, I guess I could be wrong.... This was the first time I have seen Jewel in over 4 years. It was well worth the wait. :) Rusted Root played some songs, it was fun. They even played Jimi's "All Along the Watchtower" that got them way over with the crowd. Out came Steve. He went for the cheap heat early by showing off his St. Louis Lumber Co. shirt. Then he talked about how he went gambling down the street, and won 5 hands of blackjack. After that he and Jewel's keyboardist went to the Cardinal's game for a couple of innings before the show. He informed us that Mark McGwire hit a homerun. **(note to any musicians on the list...if you come to St.Louis, talk about the St.Louis Cardinals, the crowd will eat iy up.) Then came Steve's set.... Kiss Your Ass Gold's Gym Guy Just a Chair....where he added in the line "I remember when Whitey got mad and threw me at Dinkenger." Most of you don't get this I'm sure. But, if you have been a baseball fan since 1985, you should. After said line, the crowd went insane. I Love Everything About You ABC's Silver Lining Dog Doo Blues #48 Waterfalls, for Waterfalls he invited local music critic "Beatle Bob" up stage to dance with him. then he closed the show with, The Star Wars Song. Put his set in at just under 30 minutes. It was really awesome, wish Forbidden Fruit was present. Now, I can't give you the full setlist for Jewel, because my pen ran out. Near You Always out comes the band..... Deep Water What's Simple is True Hands, where she changed the lyrics at the beginning...."If I could tell the world just one thing it would be, that I really love hanburgers, I'm not a vegetarian, but for some reason a lot of people think I am. Ok, let's try this again.....If I could tell the world just one thing it would be that I'm not a hippie, but I have friend's that are.....ok, one more time." after this I don't remember the songs all that well. When she played WWSYS it was complete with the guitar/voice duel, and "Kitty" Closed the set with a few rocked out numbers, last 2 being LMJLMA, and Down. Set ended at about 11:20pm. Which kind of sucked, because Riverport Amphitheatre kicks out the performers right around 11:30. Out came Jewel and the keyboardist guy..... Absence of Fear !!!!!!!!!!! Yah, it was that awesome. :) Then to cap off the night, accapala, Chime Bells. :) It was such an awesome experience.
