Hey EDA's, One of you posted a message about how Jewel has changed from a shy spoken girl to a confident woman. Well I have a theory on this. When Jewel's first album came out, she was just a girl who had grown up in a hut in Alaska. Jewel probably felt insecure, and out of place in front of the TV camera, but know that she has become used to it, and is no longer intimidated by them, its only natural that she would become more outspoken and confident. This isn't a bad thing. I can make a parrallel between that and my own life. When I entered year 9, I began taking up Drama as a subject. Before that, I was a very quiet, shy boy that pretty much kept to himself, and when teased used to just shrug it off and walk on. But as my confidence grew on the stage, I began to open up out of my sheel so much so that I can act and sing in front of a crowd of over 1000 people (which I have done) with confidence and with the self confidence that I need. I think Jewel has just come out of her shell more, I think its great. Scorpius. Check out my homepage at www.geocities.com/Area51/Nebula/9655. My ICQ# is 42872979. I am pretty sure that this was staged. The girl was sitting next to me during Steve's set. It wasn't actually her seat, and after Steve's set, she had dissappeared, not to be seen again. It looked to me that she knew Steve to some extent. Still loved his set though. His improv "Camera guy give me some beer" song was pretty funny, but not as funny as the "Kripy Kreme Donuts" song he did in Indy. >tickets, she she then does her encore presentation. It was weird, we had talked earlier in the day how cool it would be in Jewel read poetry from her book...I didn't think it would actually happen. She simply signed the page "Jewel" (with my pen). >The band was going crazy and steve >was jumping up and down, he was a great guitar player. I got the single today and, of course, I love it:) Ya know what I noticed, though? Well, I'll tell ya instead of waiting for a response. Two things: one, is says on the back of the CD that the new version of "Jupiter" was produced by Lon Giordano and JEWEL. Cool, huh? Maybe I just think so, but... And, the less interesting little thing, is that the live version of Deep Water is the same one that's on the Australian double CD import. It's a really good version, though, so you won't get no complaints from me:) Anywho, talk to ya all later! I was looking for the other EDAs but I got there to late. We were in the 7 section second row which are pretty good seats. Rusted root opened and I saw them before when it was just them so it was cool to see them again. One the way to the concert I had a wierd feeling that I was going to get a chance to go backstage and when I get wierd feelings about things they usually come true, so anyways, I was sitting watching rusted root when this guy walked by and he had a cool cowboy hat but then I saw his face and it was steve poltz. I was like this is my chance to get backstage but I delayed and he walked away and I was kicking myself all night. I came to the concert with low expectations and Jewel was totally amazing and she sang carnivore and that is my favorite song she sing because I totally shows her rang. She rocked it out I thought she sounded like Janis a little. Then in WWSYS she scatted the whole thing and it was amazing. She did this dance for like 5 minutes that the guys really liked and I was cool but not really her style but who says that she has to be the same her whole life. Also she did this cool thing to show off her voice, she would sing and the guitarist would copying her and they did that for like 15 minutes she is an amazing singer. I've been a fan since her first apperance on conan o'brian and in the past year I kind of lost intrest in her as she went mainstream but at this concert she totally rebuilt my trust in her and her talent. I had a great time. As I was walking past the phones I saw a girl with a halo on and eda shirt and I was going to stop and talk to her but she was on the phone. Thanks for listening, Sarah Mog ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 18:28:53 -0400 (EDT) From: "Drew Krewer" Subject: * Re:Face Of Love Hey, I am totally thrilled that "Face of Love" is going to be recorded in a studio version. Hi All, I finally saw storytellers on VH1 this morning at 1:30. She was magnificent and the band was awesome! But...here's my 2 cents... Call me analytical or whatever, but...i sense something between her and Steve! The way she'd look at him and stuff. Is anyone getting this vibe? (or is it just me??) Anyway, I thought that her performance was wonderful! I can't *wait* to see her this Saturday in Raleigh @ Hardee's Walnut Creek! About her hair..i know this is superficial and whatnot but..she could have done something better with it! It didn't look like there was much thought put into it or something. She looked beautiful but she would have been much more if her hair had a little "Oomph"! y'know what I mean?? err...that was shallow but that was just irking me! All of you EDAs..Good job there! You looked to be a wonderful warm audience! And that 1st kid that asked the question was ADORABLE! I have been to I think every site of his online and no one seems to have it. It is very annoying!!! I want that song sooo bad. Please e-mail me with them or a place I get them. That song will not leave my head!! Thankjs!! Hey if anyone has some Steve Poltz tapes from this tour I am defintely interested in getting those too. Second- I am very mad that I didn't buy the Jewel Spirit Tour Book when I had the chance. You guys all keep talking about it and sounds like I something I really should've purchased. I unfornately only had enough money for a shirt with me that day. So I was wondering if there is any angel out there that has an extra one or is going to a concert could help me out?? I'll pay for it in advance. Thanks!!! Jupiter is amazing. Definitely worth getting. The Silver Lining import is good too. There are some songs from One Left Shoe, Silver Lining and I Thought I Saw You Last Night (which I love!), and YWMFM, it's just Steve singing which is strange at first. He didn't use his version (I stab the eggs...) I thought that was intersting. There's also a song called Satan's Choir. Overall, they are both good additions to my collection. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 19:04:54 +0200 (MET DST) From: Alex Oudshoorn Subject: Painters/Re: * MY FIRST ANGELFOOD!!! All the missing Steve Poltz & Rusted Root setlists are now up. Every 1999 SPIRIT Tour setlist, from the beginning of the tour through August 10th in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio, is accurate & complete now. (The link to this page is below the calendar screen at www.jeweljk.com.) There was also new content added to headline news, rumor/truth & the calendar over the past week or so. I'm still recieving a lot of EDA questions via email & you'll have to forgive me for not replying to 99% of it. I'm not recieving questions via email that are not already answered on Jewel's website. Please have a look there before emailing me. Chances are your question is already answered there on either the calendar, headline news or the rumor/truth pages. Just doing my part to reduce EDA laziness, so I can have more laziness of my own. ;-) Cheers, Alan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 16:04:19 EDT From: Giggly1021@aol.com Subject: * Angelfood Bank Does anyone know how long it should take to get tapes? I know > her life is demanding and what not, but if she doesn't like her job > anymore, she shouldn't perform. She was clearly put out with it. I don't know, maybe she wasn't having such a good day? When she came to St. Paul, she seemed anything but put out. And, by the way, she performed a song that she wrote during the sound check, which she referred to as "the Minneapolis song." I sort of picked up on it, but figured that, of the Twin Cities, Minneapolis is probably the better-known one, so it might have been a "short cut" of sorts. Sort of like the Auburn Hills/ Detroit thing...chances are, most of the audience isn't from Auburn Hills (where I just moved from a few months ago, btw). Though, I guess it would have been just as easy to say, "Hello, Michigan!" or "Hello, Twin Cities!" As a side note, I appreciated Steve's tailoring of his show to the Twin Cities audience -- references to local sports, musical, and cultural figures, even a rendition of 's "Little Red Corvette", performed as a duet with the woman from Rusted Root (don't remember her name, but she's a Minnesotan too). I realize he probably did something similar in many other venues, but it was still a nice touch. >Even though she put on a wonderful show, she just didn't give me the intimacy >I has grown accustomed to, anyone else feel the same? I would agree with that. I saw her a few years ago, and her performance has definitely changed. A few years ago, I got the sense that she was sharing something very personal with the audience, even though the audience was probably a couple thousand people. Sunday night, it was a much different experience. Part of it might have been the difference in lighting -- it's become a lot more elaborate than it once was. Another might have been the choice of songs -- she definitely "rocked out" more this time around. All in all, Sunday's performance seemed a lot more like "product" than what a lot of people might have gotten used to. I hate to say that, because some might read this with the impression that I thought her concert was anything but spectacular. That's not what I'm trying to convey. On the contrary, I probably enjoyed it more than anything else I've seen in a while. It's just that...well, she's a lot more commercial, more "rock star" than she was in the past. From the merchandise tables when you first walk in, to the lighting and other visual effects, to her stage presence itself -- this is a different Jewel, or at least a different side of Jewel, than we used to know. David (LENONO7638@aol.com) wrote: >She seemed so shy and soft-spoken when she >did interviews for the first cd. She seemed more out-spoken, more confident, >more polished for the new cd, which I felt was a shame, since alot of her >charm is that she seems very normal and down to earth. I've noticed this too. Her stage persona is a lot more confident too -- when she came out Sunday night, she greeted the audience with something to the effect of, "Hello babies!" That kind of took me by surprise. I'm not going to let it bother me. Her music is still wonderful, maybe even better than Pieces of You (I play Spirit more in my CD player, anyway). And her performance is better, or at least more entertaining IMHO, than ever. It's just...different now. Allen ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #488 ***************************
