I just wanted to write up a quick impression of Jewel's concert at Riverbend in Cincinnati, OH. This was my first time seeing Jewel in concert and I was very excited. Plus I had 12th row seats. Anyway, I have to say Jewel was simply amazing! She blew me away! I have angelfood of her live, but it simply does not do her justice. She is a million times better LIVE!! I can't even find words good enough to describe the concert. Her voice was in top form and although she didn't talk much she was funny and warm. I was so impressed with Barcelona, Foolish Games, What's Simple Is True, LMJLMA, Absence of Fear and Life Uncommon. She really rocked the place making us dance. Then would slow it down with a powerful love song that would make you want to cry. Just amazing! I will never forget the show. I can't wait to see her again. That's all for now. Take care all. Shelia The deer hitting angel (lol) P.S. Rusted Root was awesome!! Is it true that they are breaking up after this tour? ------------------------------ Date: 12 Aug 99 01:33:17 EDT From: Mark Street Subject: * NJC: Codecs (for downloading video) I don't remember who wrote to the list about needing the lastest codecs to view the video on the VH1 site, but the place to download the latest codecs from intel is http://developer.intel.com/ial/indeo/video/driver.htm Just install the iv5setup.exe file. Hope this helps. I just thought I'd keep you all up to date on Jewel's UK TV appearances. At 1.35a.m this morning, a 15 minute programme entitled 'Pieces of Jewel' was shown. The bulk of the programme was made up of clips culled from various sources, to highlight the phenomenal change and growth of Jewel's career. The programme began with clips from the 'Introduction to Jewel' video. We got to see a young, giggly and excited Jewel talking about how her dreams had become reality beyond her wildest expectations, as well as clips of the WWSYS video. A highlight for me was seeing Jewel surf and then go up to an apartment to see a certain Mr Steve Poltz sprawled out in bed with a red dress on and a bottle of beer in his hand! We got a tour of the Denny's bathroom as Jewel talked about how great it was to wash the suds off the back of her head in the low faucets. Then, the phenomenal rise in her career was highlighted with clips from her 'Vatican' performance of Hands and a clip of poetry reading (The Slow Migration of Glaciers) from Virgin Megastore. The programme ended with a clip of live performance of 'Jupiter' suggesting the programme was edited together fairly recently (with it being her next single and all). Overall, I thought the programme was great. Anyone with th 'Introduction...' video probably didn't miss much and the various 98/99 clips have probably already been seen by most U.S e.d.a's. Still I think it was great for us Brits!!! Hope I didn't bore you all Rach xxxxxx ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Aug 1999 12:10:32 +0200 From: "michiel - Jewelfan- van gorkum" Subject: * Discount on cdnow hello Jewelfans, When you want to order the cd Jupiter with the cd of Merle Haggard with two songs that Jewel sings on than you can get $ 10 dollars discount. Jewel's keyboardist Steve George has answered a number of your questions in the Obsessin' section. Brady Blade will be next week's featured "Obsessin' with a question" participant. There are also a bunch of new concert reviews from YOU in JReviews. Thanks for contributing! We encourage all others who are sending reviews to the list to contribute them to Jewel's site at the "On Tour" section, as well. You'll also find several new items at the JMerch store including the new Jewel black high contrast photo shirt (the one over 900 EDA's voted for) and a new Spirit Tour Baseball Jersey. For those wanting accurate setlists, almost every 1999 Jewel setlist is up on the setlist page as well as a lot of informative "headline news" blurbs which answer most of the current questions being asked on this list. You can also find lots of answers (such as "when does "Ride With The Devil" begin showing in movie theaters?") by simply reading the calendar which is updated almost every day. Have a look & enjoy!
