I actually work at a concert venue so I know a little about soundcheck scheduling. Traditionally the soundcheck will occur between 3 and 5 for a 7:00 show. Of course this also depends on when the artist actually arrives at the venue. One thing is for certain though-they never do a soundcheck after the gates have been opened so the public do not have access to the venue while the artist is doing the soundcheck. If you have some sort of connection or pass or something though, that's great. You might also want to keep in mind though that some artists actually request that no one except for the sound people be present for the soundcheck. I don't know how Jewel feels about that but I'd say it's pretty much a given that unless you work for the artist, tour promoter, venue, or any of the vendors, you won't be able to get in during the soundcheck. Hope that helps. :) Michelel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Aug 1999 01:32:33 EDT From: "Matt Neely" Subject: * Review....Pittsburgh I have just walked in the door from the show. What can I say amazing!!! Jewel is simply just so wonderful in everyway. Her set was so great. I also would like to say that to see Rusted Roots last show in their hometown was a great thing to be a part of. I know that a lot of the angels didn't have much to say about them but I want to say they rocked. I was blown away by all the fantastic drumming. Then came Steve....great show. Liz from RR came out to sing "Little Red Corvette" how cool is that. And also Steve played the best dam cover I've ever heard "Waterfalls" you know like by TLC. Anyways he was just so great. Well when Jewel took stage I was nearly blown away. I just couldn't believe that it was her in front of me. Wow what a set. So extreamly great I can't even say much else. Here's the set list: Near You Always Deep Water What's Simple Is True Hands-opening lyrics "If I could tell the world just one thing it would be that I like cold cereal" Jupiter Story about Steve and the song then he sang:"Stab the yolks with the goddamn fork why'd you have to take me to court" You Were Meant For Me Morning Song Cold Song-one of my fav's of the night German Interview Story Innocence Maintained Barcelona Life Uncoommon Foolish Games Down So Long Down Love Me Just Leave Me Alone Who Will Save Your Soul-I loved when her and Doug did the little back and forth thing and that whole kitty thing is so great ENCORE- Absence Of Fear Reading of poem sorry but I forget which one Anyways it was for Kyle Chimebells accapella great show. well i have it on tape if anyone is interested email me privately. i am so tired i'm goin to bed see ya later matt guitar pluckin angel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Aug 1999 00:46:08 EDT From: TFace151@aol.com Subject: * Pittsburgh Show OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! I just got back from seeing Jewel at Starlake and I am so excited. SHe is so wonderful. I just love her so much. I just wanted to write about my experience. Rusted ROot was awsome. They are a home town band so i guess i have to say that, but really I think they are great musicians. Their fans on the other hand......well lets just say i don't like a second hand high form other peoples pot in aclosed in area. Then we had to wait for steve to come on, but when he did he was wonderful. I wish I could remeber the order of setlists, but i stink at that kind of stuff. The cool part was he brought lisa from rusted root out and they sang little red corvet by prince. that was cool, also steve ended his set with TLC's waterfalls. May I say steve is a tlented rapper. By now I am so excited i could die. That is when these peopel beside us decide to light up pot (differnent people) so my fiance (he is so embarassing sometimes) asked them kindly to put it out, so they did and we were happy. Then Jewel came out. She looked so beautiful. In all black.....which brings me to a point the girl needs some color to her wardrobe. Now to the concert. Beautiful she sang Near You always without any music. Now my mind is so distraut after the whole evening i can't remember what comes next. She sang a lot off of SPirit and WWSYS And YWMFM (which had a funny story about chic lyrics and what steve wanted to write, if you want to know email me) and FG of course. She stuck to the basics. I was kind of mad because i was looking forward to SIBTW, Grey Matter, so close to heaven, ASB, Race Car Driver.....she played none of these. The only "new" songs were cold song, down, and love me just leave me alone. WEll anyway about 20 min inter her set these morons next to us light up their pot again. This time i decide that i will not stand there and be sick so we moved to the aisle. I was happy i could see better. and i was at the edge of the pit. about two songs later they start to ask everyone to go back to their seats, but we got to stay because i told the guards about the pot smoke,( i know that is narcing, but they weren't going to arrest anyone.) well anyway it is now close to the end of her set. WWSYS isthe last song so i sneak up to the front of the stage. I wanted to give jewel a change purse with fish on it(if you want to know why you can email me) so i got up close and this girl (i use the term loosley) was being rude to me. I know she couldn't have been an eda because she was a b*tch (forgive my language) she was trying to push me out of the way because i got a better spot than her. She snuck up too because she used to be sitting in my row. so anyways i was up there and she kept pushing me so i hipped checked her and she still dind't stop. so i gave the security guard the wallet and he put it on stage. I really hope she got it. I also know this will sound crazy but i know jewel looked directly at me and smiled at least twice. I don't care what anyone says she looked at ME> ok i am normal now. So it is the end and Jewel leaves and they throw picks i got one of Tony hall's. I almost got a drum stick but some girl snatched it. Oh well. then Jewel came out by herself and started to shake peoples hands she shook my and just as she touch me the witch from before pushed me out of the way grabbed onto jewel's and screaming (needless to say jewel looked scared) then she sang absence of fear and she read a poem from a book an asusience member had given her to sign. I can't rember which one i was still too shocked from being that close to a goddess. And then she sang Chimes bells told everyone to call the local radio station because they won't play jupitor. ANd it was over. I am still excited about tonight so i am rambleing i am so sorry this is that long. Well I hope everyone has a nice night and i look forward to hearing from you if ya have questions. It was awsome just wish she would have sang less album stuff and more bootlegged stuff. I went to Musicland in my mall and where they were showing all the releases coming out this year, they had a release date for Jewel that said Aug/Sept. I asked about it and said she had one soming out in November but of course the sales people were no help. Could this be the soundtrack to "Ride With The Devil"??? Any help is appreciated. Pilon" Subject: * Toronto Show (I refuse to let this subject die) j/k, actually, I'm just a procrastinator with random thoughts, so bear with me (if you dare, I haven't posted in a dog's age): EDAs have to be some of the most patient people in the world: Due to a little misunderstanding with my friend, I was 45 mins late for one meeting, and over 5 hours overdue meeting another. Yet no one even seemed annoyed. (hey Shawna, just be glad I actually found ya =) It was a 5 hour drive, just so you know. (Hey Russell, hey Steve!) Rusted Root was great: Yeah, I know the crowd wasn't realy into them, and they're set was longer than most (even myself) appreciated, but they're still an amazingly talented and entertaining group (in my opinion, naturally). (And Jen, I think they always play in this order: RR, Steve, then Jewel) Steve Poltz - drinking: Most of you guys may not get this, but he was drinking KEITH'S!!! He was talking about cutting his teeth on this stuff and not being able to get it in the States. Our boy is definitely from Halifax. heehee His cousins were there and brought it. (It's a beer for those who aren't in the know, and no, no one got the bottle, even I would have loved it) Steve Poltz - ABC song: My life may not be complete till I learn all the lyrics to this song. It's HI-LA-RI-OUS. Steve Poltz - Star Wars song: I was actually laughing so hard, I didn't hear the whole Yoda part. Steve Poltz - Little Red Corvette: I could be mistaken, but I think we may have been the first to hear that little duet (correct me, anybody?) betwen him and that girl from RR (sorry, I don't do names.) Steve Poltz - overall: Talk about talent!!! I'm going to have to actually buy his CD now. It was THAT good. Going backstage during intermission: didn't get to see anything finally, but Shawna, thanks again for getting us ejected TWICE. heehee Jewel - overall: I won't go into detail, cause one of the first things I noticed is that there were few surprises (even though I don't read in detail the long posts). I just have to say I've never enjoyed a concert so much (this was my first Jewel concert, although far from my first concert). She is, without any doubt, amazing. Jewel - Drug Bust story: You can read about it a hundred times, but it'll never be as good as when Jewel tells it. The crowd was really into it (in TO, at least). Jewel - down by the stage: I figure pretty much everyone knows about this now. But I was kinda happy to be expecting it to get there quickly (without putting anyone ion harms way, of course). There was one row of people standing between me and Jewel (they got to touch her, but not moi). But I was close enough to make it pretty much every detail about her face. WOW!!! I've been a fanfor the longest time, it feels, but Jewel has never felt so REAL. It's an incredible experience and I recommend it. My friend Rob - the pick: Pettibone (sp?) threw Jewel's and his' picks into the crowd with Steve. Rob caught one (Jewel's I'm prety sure, it wasn't Steve's anyways) and was all anxious to go play (it was better he caught it than me, I guess). He had to headbutt someone for it though (accidentilly, of course). Now his favorite reply to everything I say is: "...yeah, but I got a pick." Jupiter song on the radio: Why am I mentioning this here? Cause I finally heard for the first time while driving home. It was ok, I guess. But it's just not the same song I fell in love with on Spirit. The CD version is my favorite song. (I know, I know, the lyrics are considered somewhat cheezy amd perhaps shalow by some, but I love it, don't ask me to explain it.) Ok, I rambled, but that should about do it. =) Reservoir Angel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Aug 1999 16:44:30 EDT From: Grapegum27@aol.com Subject: * Storytellers That was pretty awesome. She's quite a talker that Jewel, but very funny. My sisters were cracking up. I wish they'd shown "Life Uncommon" I loved the way she did it that night!! And LMJLMA was incredible =) peace angels, mf ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Aug 1999 11:32:31 PDT From: "Jennifer Corley" Subject: * NJC: A Steve Poltz song? Hey everybody! There's a country/rock group called Reckless Kelly and they sing a song called Tommy and Marla. I looked at the case and next to it it said S. Poltz. Is that Steve? There can't be many S. Poltz's.
