I mean their lyrics are real strong." #33 K.D. Lang- "I've always loved K.D. Lang's voice. I like seeing women that make it on the sheer strength of their talent." #13 Ella Fitzgerald- "I love Ella Fitzgerald. Her voice is very versatile and very playful. I mean, she was very very good with the band. Instead of just being a singer in front of the band, she really was in the band. There were also some remarks/notes made of Jewel: When they were showing the different faces of music played by women, she was shown among a group '90's women, and right at the end, when women were asked to name their favorite music stars of tomorrow, PAT BENATAR said of Jewel: "Jewel's great! She's incredible!" Even though Jewel did not make VH-1's official list(although Ani Difranco came in at #90), she did make the voters at #34- tied with Courtney Love. Cal EDAs who missed out helping out at the LA Foodbank, poo on you! :-) We didn't get much time to help out cause we got there at 1:30pm and the place closed at 3pm-don't complain to me, complain to our drivers- ;) We'll be having a Living Room Concert on August 28th at Jason Vierlings house out in Riverside. I just wanted to bring that up cause, not all the So. Cal EDAs I've met are on the So. CA list....ok, my two cents on Storytellers. I think that it should have been made into a 2 hour show instead of the run-of-the-mill hour show. I liked how Jewel opened up on LMJLMA and how friendly she was to the EDA only audience. I also got to see the EDAF folks a little bit-I've hear Alan is in there somewhere- "Hi Tom, Dennis, and Amy". The Federales story was WAY too slow and so was the Bob Dylan story. One thing I noticed, on the Bob story she didn't mention anything about "borrowing" a line of his in a song of hers. Of course, being a songwriter and saying that on record is foolish cause it'll become a finanical mess in royalties fees to Bob, yadda, yadda,yadda... :-) Anybody know the name of that last song that Jewel did? It was a bit sad for her to tell of her Grampa died and I've gotta admit, if Jewel wants to go country...all the better I say! hehe It was great to know that everybody in the audience was EDAs and the show was free(grumble, grumble...wish I was there). I expected VH-1 to do a typical StoryTellers, and I was right. Until Jewel gets on one of those non-monpoly channels-ie MTV and VH-1 and gets on a PBS music show, I don't think Jewels true "colors" will be anything close to going to a concert. Foxtel has just broadcast Woodstock 99 on its pay per view channel and I have a copy of Jewel's complete set. I also have alot of Jewel's TV appearances from Foxtel's other channels, including Jay Leno, Saturday Night Live ... etc, that has never been shown on free to air. I am looking for older stuff like MTV Unplugged (or anything else from MTV) and Hard Rock Live. I am also looking for unreleased songs. If you would like to trade or want me send you a list of what I've got, please e-mail me privately at foolishgames@hotmail.com Tim ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Aug 1999 01:25:40 -0500 From: Khanh Duong Subject: * Bits and Baubles...
