Is it just me, or has every single from Spirit pretty much "flopped"? I hardly ever hear Hands, I heard DSL more times in Berkeley, California than I have in Florida. I heard it here, like twice. I heard Jupiter twice, and that was on the overnight show. I hear Foolish Games more than anything. I think something lighter, like she's always done would be much more radio suited, than trying to be some rocker chick. Maybe something like What's Simple is True, or Kiss the Flame. Even Life Uncommon would probably make a big hit on Christian radio stations. I have also linked it to YWMFM US (discography page 3) & biography in the text. I'll eventually link it to all of the other pages! I don't really know that much about Steve & I'm sure there's alot of other people out there that would want to know more, sooo I thought i'd add some more to that part of my site....he's a really talented guy. Here's the problem, all I have is what you see on my site, so any of your ideas or anything you'd be willing to send me will be great & a huge help:) I thought about maybe adding links to other Steve pages??? or including some sort of biography???? Live pics???? CD's available etc???? Lyrics???? So if anyone can help with the above or has any ideas, or if you have a Steve site that you'd like to be linked to my page please email me!! Just her style and use of colors and imagery in the video is totally, don't get me wrong, expected of her and is great. I've watched it over and over and everytime I learn something more from her. Her sense of humor is awesome. I truely hope that the people that vote for her on TRL on MTV have heard the song and really understand it before they listen to it because you only get the real feeling of the video if you know what it's about. Am I right? Well, to wrap this up it came out great. Share your coments. Cya, Ian _ Atlantic Readies Jewel Yule Set Atlantic Records has set a tentative release date of Nov. 9 for a holiday album by Jewel. The collection -- produced by Arif Mardin -- features the singer/songwriter performing such classics as "Silent Night," "Hark! There is also a Christmas version of Jewel's hit "Hands" and a gospel medley of "Go Tell It On The Mountain," "Life Uncommon," and Julie Gold's "From A Distance." Jewel's most recent album, "Spirit," features guest appearances by Red Hot Chili Pepper Flea and her mother/manager, Nedra Carroll. The set, which peaked at No. 3 on The Billboard 200, is No. 194 this week. It is certified by the Recording Industry Association of America for 3 million units sold. I read an article from Billboard Dec.19,1998 Ron Shapiro VP/GM said there would definetley be 4 singles off of "Spirit" although there ARE possibly 7. My guess it will be "Abscense of Fear" And a cute quote from Jewel... "I feel pretty damn good. I've gotten really clear about what I want to do. I'm more cofident, and I've realized that {Atlantic} allows me to remain who I am. Thay support my creativity." It's a good thing, too, considering what Jewel confides she has in mind for the future. " I have such a tendency toward country, it's ridiculous," she says. "For my fourth record, I want my own line dance. I want the whole nine yards." That would mean after her Christmas album she might go a little country. That would be intresting huh? And Tuesday on FOX she set to be shown in there Woodstock 99 2 hour special. I just think some of Jewel's songs are 'too tender' for public consumption. I don't know about you but whenever Jewel comes up on the radio or on tv, I notice an uneasiness in the people around me. They create a soft fluffy moment. Same thing goes for all the other 'tender' songs... you know, the ones by the McLachlans, the Amos', etc etc. Forgive my use of words, but thats just what I think of it. I won't be listening to a Jewel CD when I'm out with my friends, we'd be listening to ... say Nirvana. Jewel's songs are intimate and are best heard when you're alone ... or at one of her concerts. You guys rock. *applause* Rusted Root was a lot different than I thought they would be. Lots of cool instruments, but I couldn't understand much more than "The Cat is Blue" on their songs. Steve Poltz had a lot shorter set than I thought he'd have, but I loved it. He look great in his cowboy shirt and boots. The crowd was on and off with him for some reason, but he dealt with it great and earned a lot of cheers for the Star Wars Song. And he has WAY too much energy, bouncing around the stage all night. I Love You Why Are You Going Out with that Gold's Gym Guy Just a Chair Everything About You ABC's of Love Silver Lining I Love You, I Adore You, What do you want for an Encore Star Wars Song Waterfalls Jewel - Everytime the lights dimmed for a moment, cheers went up in the crowd. When she finally cam on stage, it was all dark and she started out singing "Near You Always" a cappella. The lights came on during the chorus, and it was beautiful. She wore a black tank top that showed a bit of belly and a knee length back skirt. She was full of energy and really busted the house with an acoustic version of "Carnivore." She and Steve also told the story of when they met, which was apparently when he worked in a donut shop and got fired for giving her a free donut. And though I'm sure her voice killed, she still yodeled a much slower version of "Chime Bells" a cappella as her last encore. For a concert that is for an album of inspirational songs, it rocked the house down. Near You Always - done a cappella Deep Water - acoustic then joined by band What's Simple is True - with band - on this song, it sounded like she was always late with the lyrics, starting them about 2-3 seconds after it started on the album version. But she made it work. Hands - with band Jupitor - with band - The rockin' new version You Were Meant For Me - with band - Steve and her looking at each other while singing the chorus Morning Song - acoustic Carnivore - acoustic - BEAUTIFUL!!! Her voice just soared throughout the chorus. *happy sigh* New song - fast - with Pettibone- first words were "Take my hand" - Barcelona - with band - still love how her voice flies on "Let Me Fly" Life Uncommon - with band - sounds much more rock when in concert Foolish Games - with keyboardist - Greg? Been Down So Long - with band - was starting to get into a bit of a scat throughout the song. This is also when she started scream singing some and the lights started flashing and blinding everyone. Very cool. Even if I still see bits of purple flying around. Do You Want to Play - with band - I liked it much better when I could see it live than the real audio I got. Down - with band- This is what I was most looking forward to hearing played really loud and great - I wasn't disappointed. More funky lights. Love Me Just Leave Me Alone - with band - More rockin' and light shows and scream singing. Who Will Save Your Soul - with band - they should release a version of this called the 'scat' remix. Her voice being repeated by Pettibone on guitar is just amazing. No kitty cats this time though. *more happy sighs* Encores: Abscence of Fear - acoustic - very etheral and pretty. Appreciated it even more after all the rock. Chime Bells - a cappella - Her voice sounded tired, and it was a different tune than I 'm used to hearing her sing (much slower) but she did a great job when it came to yodeling fast, even if it was a bit of a different yodel as well. My sister said the concert was worth it just to see Jewel yodel (of course, since I paid for her, that doesn't make complete sense. :) I am SO glad I went. Though I didn't have the chance to meet anyone in person, it was great being able to say I was in the same room as Jewel and Steve Poltz, and see them perform after three years of waiting to get a chance. Wish I could of met some of you, but I didn't see any other EDAs there (I was wearing my shirt and everything!) Hopefully I'll be able to get down to the Virginia Beach show later. ~Kristy ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #450 ***************************
