Hey all, I suppose I've waited long enough to ask this. Procrastination is one of my greatest talents. lol Now the Craziness starts. Anyway, who all is going to the show on sunday? Does anyone know of any EDA plans? Come on people Sunday is my B-day and it's fixin to be the best one ever! Ok. They are a little blurry for some reason that I can't fix right now, and keep in mind I just started making the page. If any of you want to see the pictures, go here: http://members.xoom.com/Rex99/sincerity.htm Again, they showed up a little unclear but you may want to take a look anyway. Just click on the link at the very bottom of the page. - -Nicole:) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 01:14:55 -0400 From: "Michael Thiele" Subject: RE: * Question about Jupiter single >>Has Jewel's sales and popularity here slipped so much that they need to >put out the single here? Because they haven't done so since YWMFM, and it >confuses me that they decide to do it now, after all this time. My opinion on this... I don't think it has anything to do with popularity. I think it's because all of the singles off of Spirit have been album cuts. They probably assume that without the a single available, people who would usually just buy the single will buy the full album instead, therefore making much more money. For Jupiter, however, it's a completely new cut, different from that of the album. The single is being released for that reason; because this particular cut of Jupiter isn't available on any other US album. HEY EVERYBODY!!!!!!!! A bunch of the local gang and I just got back from SD and are now in the process of crashing here at my humble abode. Jason Mraz (of EDA Concert fame) and Carlos Olmeda were the musicians of choice this evening and they did not disappoint. After a great dinner at Theos we all headed over to NewBreak to catch Jasons show. From there we headed over to Carlo Olmeda's CD release party just in time to catch Carlos going up on stage for his set. HE ROCKS!!! After a little trouble with Gary the idiot sound guy everything clicked and the show took wing :) These two will be excellent in an LRC situation...but more on that later ;) OK ...on to business :) For those heading to the Foodbank in LA tomorrow a little reminder. No open toe shoes and dress to get grubby. We'd love to see you in your new EDA Shirts....but not this time :) Wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty or stained :) And drive safely :) And don't run with sharp scissors or eat pop rocks with soda :) That's all I think :) See You Soon :) === Take Care Angels, Jason V Arunsun on IRC & ICQ Arnsun on AOL IM ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 12:23:00 EDT From: MrchngAngl@aol.com Subject: * Next single Recently everyone has been debating the next single. Here is my take on it: Hope this is better! I was somewhat disappointed that jupiter was released as a single. While i love all jewels songs Jupiter doesn't not have much radio appeal in my opinion. I admitt the new version helps this, but still it isn't what the public has shown they want. after voting all day for TRL several days in a row i have realized it doesn't fit with the music the public wants now. And i dont' mean jewel should change her style or anyhting. It's just the trend now, and for us die hard jewel fans it's just a disappointment. There are only a few radio stations playing it. Every DJ knows my voice at one station all i have to say is will you please play my song, yet they haven't played it once after swearing to me they are allowed and they will. But i know better than to believe them. I can't even get the overnight DJs to play it. They say i'm the only one asking for it. My response is no one knows about it if you don't play it. But DSL didn't last long on the radio either. And that's why i think they won't play it. DSL had more radio appeal that Jupiter, but it didn't make it. And now someone brings up the question why would they release a single in the US if they are used for promotion?? Maybe it's time. Maybe she needs promotion. Now dont' get me wrong, i love this rocker girl's music, but it is different than most of what is popular now. Even when i heard hands i thought it was much different than the three songs off POY. And all of us on this list tell each other to vote. I even have my friends who DON"T like jewel voting. But i have no idea how may people are on this list. Can you compare that too all the screaming young teenagers who are convinced the boybands are singing to them and are just as devoted to them as we are to jewel?? i'll bet there are many more of then than us. now i sound very pesimistic. I think it's just my mood since it's 3:00 AM and they still won't play the song. But i'm going to keep going anyway. my fav song on the CD is Innocence maintained. And i''m not sure if i like it faster or not, but i don't think it will make a good single. I would love to see life uncommon as the next single, but it starts too slow, it takes to long to get to the part that would make it on the radio. anything else would be Deep Water, but i dont' think that would make it either. Lets think of the previous sinles. WWSYS is upbeat, it's got good guitar too. YWMFM, same, adn FGis completely different than those, but it fit, and it helped about the movie. The other songs are complete contrasts to those. They are more like most of jewels music. They dont' jive with the radio which is cool. I'll listen to them forever, but jewel has to get another big hit on the radio. And i don't think Any songs on spirit will do that for her. An xmas CD?? ok but that's not going to do much either. while i love Spirit, it's not the same as POY. it doens't have the same potential. Why am i bringing all this up?? i'd like to try and help Jupiter succeed and everything else too. We can call and try and get in on the radio and MTV and VH1(although they do play it sometimes) but we can also do somthign else..... WE CAN TELL THEM WE DON'T WANT LIKE HEARING THE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. TELL THEM WE FIND THEY ARE LOSING THEIR EDGE, THAT OTHER STATIONS ARE PLAYING NEWER AND BETTER VARIETY. GET ALL YOUR FRIENDS TO DO THAT AND WE MAY GET SOMEWHERE. That's my 2 cents for today. please don't hate me i really do love jewels music. just beacuse i don't see it happening doesn't mean i don't want it too. i've been proven wrong many times before...so prove me wrong!!!!!! <3peace=) always Mel Marching angel ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 10:06:55 PDT From: "Justine L" Subject: * Toronto Show Hey everyone, As far as I know there aren't any plans for an EDA meet for the Toronto show. Remeber the big discussion over of why Amen was written? well, it says it in the jewel poy promo book, written in jewels handwriting. here's the link to that page: http://www.justjewel.cwc.net/page6.htm And for the people w/o internet, ill type it (arent i just so nice? j/p): Amen "I wrote this song indirectly for Kurt Cobain, but more precisely for the angst he represented, but even more for the exact hopelessness so many felt after his death. The dilema of what does it mean when our heros and idols kill themselves. Personally, this is my favorite song that made it on the album, both for singing and for its words(?)." Hey Angels I was wondering if anyone had the Complete Works of Jewel Kilcher? I know it's six tapes, so I thought rather than buy six tapes and send them all the way somewhere, then have them sent all the way back, it would be easier if I traded with someone and they bought the tapes themselves. Because of where I live, I have access to a lot of hard to find Jewel CDs, like import singles and albums, and vinyls. So if you have the Complete Works, and you've been looking for an import CD or anything, e-mail me, and I'll tell you what I have access to. I think most of the import singles are about $10, which is around how much a six pack of cheap tapes is, plus maybe shipping, I'm not sure. And the other CDs, like the Australasian version of Spirit, are about $21 or $22. So let me know if you've been looking for any of those, or anything else. I also know where to find some really old Jewel stuff, like the San Diego collections from like 94 and 95, like Saint Doug's 91X local CD, where she has like one song on them. Those aren't as cool, but they're rare, so if you've been looking for something like that I can help. So e-mail me if you're interested! ~Jenny Falling Star Angel ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 22:29:04 +0200 From: "michiel" Subject: * Update of Jewel dutch EDA tapes hello Jewelfans, I still have some time left for making copies of my dutch eda tapes of Jewel concerts in Europe may 1999. I was able to procure the this exclusive Target item today and in my store it was also just $6.99. I found it to be packaged beautifully and visually appealing. It was on an aisle end along with Pieces of You and Spirit (only a couple copies of these though). A poster advertised ANWA, but they didn't have that available (I already have one anyway, but still). The girl who checked me out said "Jewel...she must be putting out a seven track CD to see if she should make a full album or not!" Fairly interesting statement! :-) I think they could have maybe had some better LIVE tracks on the CD, but they are good and fun! The poems were nicely selected and fit the CD perfectly. I wonder what the offensive artwork was in the originals? I don't think the interior flap artwork is that childish personally! All in all...a very interesting experience and for all of you to know...the current CD's in my changer: Bits & Baubles, Pieces of You, Spirit, Jesse Camp and the 8th Street Kidz, Britney Speares, and Geri Halliwell (of course I mainly only listen to Jewel).
