The Spirit version of Jupiter seemed so much more meaningful with its slower tempo and less... well, less. As for the video: way out there. I guess I expected something less flashy and modern such as her dressed as a goddess on the moon or something. I just thought it would be cool to have some quotes or something from people who read them. So, thanks! So, where are we all meeting before the Aug.4 Camden show? I'll be attending alone, so, it would be cool to see some of you. I really enjoyed the making of Jupiter. I think this is her best video since WWSYS. She looked really good, a little too much makeup. She has such a natural beauty that I don't think she needs all of that extra stuff. I was just wondering if anyone knew how long "storytellers" will be. I need to know because i need to set my VCR because i will be out of town when it airs. Thanks in advance. Also, i just wanted to comment on Jewel's performance at Woodstock. >From what i say on my tv, thanks to pay per view, i thought her performance was rockin' and passionate. I loved her voice changes and the way she held notes. It was very cool to hear "racecar driver", "down", & "love me just leave me alone". I also liked "life uncommon". I can't wait to see her live Aug. 10 in cleveland. Another thing i wanted to comment on was the "making the video" show, it was awesome. I loved the behind the scenes footage. jewel was amusing and real, under all that make-up. Over all i think the video is good and different, i'm happy with the results:) Melanie (\o/) /_\ "I believe in people as much as I believe in angels" ~ Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 18:19:02 -0400 (EDT) From: Jonathan Maton Subject: * Nikos & Trying to reach Anji Dancer Anji (emails signed "Becca") please contact me! I've been trying to get in touch with you about those West Palm Beach tickets! Thanks! Now my Nikos question... I've read before (on this list, I think), that "Don't" was really the only song Jewel wrote "autobiographically", meaning that the song's material happened in her life, or that she was writing from personal experience. Is Nikos fictional, then? It's a deep song... and the last two lines are like, P.S. I love you, from your sister Jewel. Ok, don't everyone jump on me, but...I dunno, I didn't like the video that much! I mean, I liked it better than DSL, but it just seemed so...unsettling. I mean, I'm an artist, so I should be better at understanding the significance of the lighting and the weirdnesses, like ILLUMINATION, but I couldn't! Everything just seemed so random, and the lighting was really unsettling. Those 2 people kissing was just plain bizarre. Well, I guess me not liking it has a lot to do with me not liking the Swallow the Moon remix, but I still hold the video for YWMFM above ALL! But I will still vote for Jupiter on TRL. I just voted about 50 times just now. As for the actual show, I LOVED it! I knew she had a dog (long, weird story as to how I knew that), so it was cool being able to see it, and the closeness she has with Nedra was wonderful. I also loved her little crack about the toothpaste. She's such a cool person, I love seeing the real her, like when she was all in her curlers with no make-up...that was just cool. I hope everyone gets a chance to see that show. ~Jenny Falling Star Angel "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle." ~Plato ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jul 1999 00:08:40 +0200 From: Koos van Zyl Subject: * Woodstock on TV! Hi Angels! SABC 3 in South Africa showed a three hour highlight package of each day of Woodstock '99. Monday night day three was aired. Jewel came on fourth, and amazingly they showed 12 of her songs (from Near You Always through WWSYS)!!! I was expecting two or three songs max, not twelve!!! Needless to say, I'm happy...:-) And to make all the pay-per-view users out there insanely jealous, I saw this all for FREE! And I got three copies of the whole thing....hehe. That was only the second time I saw Jewel on TV (the first time I saw her in Hands). Anyway, she ROCKED, and I loved it all!! I FINALLY get to hear a bit of the WWSYS I've read so much about...:-) I was hoping that she'd play Sometimes It Be That Way, but Love Me Just Leave Me Alone was just as a special surprise...:-) And Race Car Driver...oh boy...I like that one more than the STL version of it! Damn, she didn't yodel...ah well, ya can't have it all, can you? Another bit of news. Today I rummaged through old newspapers, and discovered one with Jewel on the front page!!! And it was almost thrown away!! MOM!!!! :-) She's part of a "collage" of four photos (she's with Jamaroquai and two other female artists) on the backdrop of a white & black '69 Woodstock crowd. It's a pretty stunning photo which I haven't seen before. Too bad it's in black & white...:) OK, that's it from me for now!
