I slowly moved the branch aside, trying to be as silent as possible... A sigh escaped my lungs as my eyes focused ahead. There he was!!! I raised my hand and begun my play. The rope slid smoothly out of my grasp and flew beautifully toward the beast's horns..... And continued to fly past the lumber bovine to cinch around the trash can that the elusive autographed calf was hiding beside... Lucky for me Woody the plywood cow cannot run real fast!! Boys and Girls pull your chairs up, the bard has a few tales for ye. But first the cast of characters (and my impressions of them) Luna: An outstanding woman who lives in Austin. She plays guitar beautifully, and her singing voice is haunting. She needs very much to make a tape of her singing... I know a Texan that worked in Paris that would beg to have a copy... She is quite knowledgeable on art, is quick to smile, and as an uncanny talent of befriending a stranger and making him feel like he's known her forever. And she is VERY cute in her angel wings.... Nay... I said that wrong.. As the saying was on this trip, Goddamn cute! Luna the beer faerie is Finest Kind. Amy: A person who sees things as they are, and has the talent to see them as they could or should be. Caring and kind..... And with the patience and maturity to keep Dennis somewhat moving sanely. For a long time she has taunted me on the Internet, teasingly hiding on AOL, and always quick to jest... It was good to finally meet her! Amis: This guy has an incredible sense of honor... He feels what he feels and is not ashamed of it. He is a damn good man. He understands kindness and knows beauty.... And the lucky bastard talked to Steve, touched Jewel, but that is his tale.... Amber: Alas, I didn't get to know her too well. But she seems to be very fun loving. She also knows what a goddess looks like when she sees one. Also she met someone rather interesting Saturday, I think it will prove to be infesting to the list, but that is her tale as well... (which she left out of her post.... come on amber, tell us how you met Atz!!!!) Her sister, mindy is quiet, and she let's woody rope her, instead of the other way around. Derrick, tien, his brother and Derrick's cousin.. I didn't get to know them well, but they were apart of this all.... Dennis: I left him for last... Dennis is... unique...... There are no strangers to Dennis... I cannot properly describe him here..... Dennis is Dennis!!!!! - - I would storm the gates of Hell with these people. Okay, I know everyone else has posted about all this, and my account is much the same, though perhaps not as complete as some, but this is my tale.... I only wish I could have posted this that weekend, with the energy was still fresh, but alas I was delayed.... So, I drove into Dallas from Paris, bought my ticket, and hung around the arena looking for EDAs... For three hours I walked around worriedly, so afraid that I would not be able to meet any other EDAs...... Dejectedly I returned to the entrance, so I can be near the front of the line.... Standing there in the sweltering hear I glance through the windows, and my heart jumped into my throat... There behind the glass, and about 30 degrees cooler stood four people, two of which had EDAF shirts on.... Having no way to get their attention; I just stood there for 45 min, trying to keep calm, and trying to use the jedi mind trick to get the door opened... and studying my soon to be companions..... I placed Dennis first. His movements , and energy marked him easily. Amy was also fairly easy to place as well. She just seemed to fit the person I met on AOL, I have no other reasons than that..... Plus Amy and Dennis were wearing shirts..... The girl dressed all in black took slightly longer to place, but in the end I was right.... It was Luna.... The tall lad had me stumped, but soon Amis and I would meet.... The door soon opened, and the wild trip began..... I walked up to amy and we all got to know each other as we sat around the empty food barrels (hey, take can food to concerts people!!!) Soon several other EDAs showed up (sorry girls, I am bad with names, and I was still rather shy at the time..) It was great, but I was rather shy, so before long I went to find my seat, though in hindsight i should have hung with them some more...... The concert? It was breath taking!!! my seats were not anywhere near my newfound friends, but I enjoyed looking down to see dennis befriending half the floor... Steve was great (though people around me kept asking "who is he?" and they looked at my funny when I sang with every song, but hey..... Jewel was beautiful, and her set had me screaming my lungs out at times, and at others just sitting there, slack-jawed, awed with her talent... I would go into detail, but Luna, Amis, Amy, and everyone have done that, this is just my observations of the general trip, and of meeting these wonderful people... amis did throw his hat to Steve, and as I saw it from the nose bleed seats, I yelled with glee, and felt like a proud father somehow..... Afterward we all hung out behind the arena (after amis talked to Steve) and talked. Soon I found myself following Luna all over Dallas. It seemed that she was trying to lose me, as to the fact that we weaved all over the town, and she sped through every yellow light we passed... The coffee house was packed. People were standing ahead of us, but being resourceful as they are it posed no problem. As I made a phone call I watched them pick extra chairs from tables all ready occupied to form an imaginary table... So, soon we were sitting in the middle of the outside portion of the cafe, discussing responsibility, while sipping water that dennis helped himself to from the waiter's area... The cafe and waiter were great.. I had a fruit salad that Dennis demanded to partake in. After Harris foraged through my food, I found it quite filling.... Being drunk with the happiness of seeing Jewel and being with the EDAs it did not take much to convince me to go to Houston.. So somewhere around 2 am we left the cafe, and I drove back to Paris to get towels, and take my room mate to work... ____________ 1:35 PM and one hour sleep later I arrived in Houston, and I at last met woody.. He is the nicest plywood cow I have ever met!!! That is where we first saw the beer faerie..... We have pictures, so do not laugh... and yes, we all know that she does kinda look like Luna........The picnic was kinda slow, but it was okay, as that all of us were really tired... That is where I first met Amber, mindi, Derrick and his cousin....So after trying to get thrown in jail for cutting down the park's trees and putting out the fire we retired to the hotel.... The highlight of our afternoon was watching the womens world cup (and the winner ripping off her shirt, even though Luna and Amy quickly set to tear down our joy in the symbolic display... We arrived at the concert early again to stand by the food barrels and once again they did not get filled (People, bring food!!!) So we wondered around the inside, and of course ya'll already know how dennis and amy get better seats..... but during this time Amber met Atz...... I did not see that mentioned in her post, but it is very note worthy and very funny.... Everyone ask her to post it, as that is her tale to tell not mine, I wish not to steal her glory in the matter.. but oh lord, it is funny,(at least I thought so!!) Right before Steve's set it started pouring down rain.. really hard!!! We were all under cover, but the poor people out on the lawn got soaked... As it turned out Amis had an extra ticker after getting down in the pit, so we took the extra ticket and gave it to an lady out in the rain.... Steve's set was great of course, and with Jewel and Atz appearing made it even better.. The rain seemed to invigorate the performance.. Jewel was great!! Even better than Dallas, and our hearts all melted when she cooed "thank-ya babies.." I have not enough words to describe the concert, so I'll go on with the EDAs......... Afterward Luna once again tried to get me lost as we swerved all over the woodlands, and we ended up at Denny's, taking pics of everyone(including the pic of tom p) Back in the room we all listened to Luna play and sing (damn, homegirl has a great voice!!!) as Dennis taught tein and his brother how to rope in the room... It was great, and I think Woody enjoyed it.... After everyone left we all sat and talked and laid down to sleep.... A few hours later morning found us sitting in the lobby eating and talking about the weekend... The morning was slightly more subdued, as we all realized that for some of us it was the end.... We all posed for pics outside and hugged and laughed, and all that... As we pulled out of the lot, Luna, Dennis, Amy, Amber in one car, and Amis and I in my truck, "Charles bronsen had tears in his eyes I guess because nature had been vindicated"... or something.... Suddenly Amis and I could take no more of the pain, so we sped down I-45 until we found them, forced them to pull over, and Dennis and I ran out to hug each other on the side of the road.. It feels awkward for to guys to hug in the middle of the highway, but damn, it was funny.... After our second farewells we parted company.. Since Amis destination way on my way home he and I road together as those other lucky bastards coniuted on to LA... Aye, it was a long road that stretched from Houston to nowhere, but Amis and I passed the time quickly talking.... That dude is cool!!! We said our farewells and i drove away to find a phone.. still drunk on the experience I looked up the number of my childhood love that lives in Austin, and I finished the last chapter on that saga... The drive home was long. Much longer than any of the miles before in the last few days... I felt very happy, but sad that adventure was over... I kept remembering little things of the weekend, laughing with glee.... Right outside Austin I slipped rare angels into the tape deck, and I could almost hear Luna sing as Jewel began Summer Home in your arms... and see Amis's hat fly onto the stage.... I came down slowly. The next few days found me to be in a daze.. I longed to be in New Orleans, and to have email access.... the weekend felt so much like a dream.... Just as I thought it was behind me..... around 11 PM Tuesday Dennis called me. And I realized that it really happened.... all of it..... I felt loved... Really loved.... And you know what? None of them emailed me. None. nada. I was filled with dreams of an Texas EDA get together, and no one emailed me.... It will happen, even if I have to come and find ya'll... hehehehehe anyway, that is my tale.. it is short, and I didn't explain it as I had wanted, but I am more eager to start planning the next get-together, and if ya'll come, then I wont have to describe it to ye.... anyway take care, Rowdius "oreo, oreo, jupiter..." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jul 1999 13:05:15 +0200 From: "james" Subject: * NJC: ICQ LIST ONLINE Hi you all. By Ken Barnes, USA TODAY Best-of lists are compiled to create debate. VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock & Roll, attempting to include nonrock performers spanning the century and chosen by music pros and amateurs, is especially vulnerable to second-guessing. Here's a mix of current stars and a few past greats who missed the cut, along with arguments for their inclusion and reasons for (or speculation about) their omission. Mariah Carey Why she should have been listed: Eight No. 1's in three years; seven-octave voice;arguably the biggest female star of the '90s. Why she's not listed: Perceived as lightweight; voter bias against pop stars (Celine Dion didn't make it, either; Whitney Houston couldn't break the top 60). Rosanne Cash Why: First major injection of rock and punk sensibilities into modern country; exquisite songwriter; 11 No. 1's in eight years. Why not: Collective amnesia? Celine Dion Why:Diva credentials equal to Carey's . Why not: Just missed (No. 106); voters set on sinking the Titanic. Lesley Gore Why: A dominant female solo star of the mid-'60s; You Don't Own Me an early feminist landmark. Why not: Like contemporaries The Shangri-Las and The Crystals, undervalued as a pop puppet. Lauryn Hill Why: Today's biggest -- and most credible -- new female star. Why not: Was No. 104; ballots sent out just weeks after her first solo album's release. Would certainly make it if vote were taken now. Wanda Jackson Why: Rockabilly's first female star in the '50s, with a sandpaper rasp and enough raunch to rival Elvis and Jerry Lee. Why not: Short on actual hits; probably too distant and obscure a figure for contemporary voters to recall. Jewel Why: Idol of millions; probably as influential as Alanis Morissette, who made the list. Why not: Stardom too recent; possibly viewed as artistically insubstantial. Brenda Lee Why: Top female singer of the '60s (on Billboard chart points); heavenly balladeer who could rock like the devil. Why not: Without Joplinesque drama or Slick image, her stature diminished over time, leading to forgetfulness among voters. Lulu Why: Stop laughing back there. Before To Sir With Love, she was Britain's wildest rock singer, easily a match for Joplin, Brenda Lee or Wanda Jackson. Why not: Rock wildcat phase of her career not widely known in USA. Silly name couldn't have helped, either. Shania Twain Why: Country's female Garth Brooks and a more successful pop crossover; two 10-million-selling albums. Why not: Impact likely too recent; possibly viewed as a producer's frothy concoction. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jul 1999 18:49:45 +0100 From: "Jenna Law" Subject: * My Photos Delay & Jess Smith please read If anyone has not received the photos they asked for then please mail me and i will do my best to get them to you A.S.A.P.
