["Kelli Coppens" Subject: * HOUSTON show, luna's perspective LONG ok, here is BIG ASS PART TWO.... this is REALLY long, skip to the **** for just the show amy, dennis, amias and i got about two and a half hours of sleep on the floor of my friend's apartment after the dallas show. we somehow did get up! and then we got on the road and headed down i-45 toward the woodlands. when we were about an hour away, dennis spilled his tea in the backseat of my car and he started freaking out! it was so funny :-) he started throwing tea out the windows and yelling for paper towels, and the cars driving by us were honking at him! all the time we had the prettiest picture ever of tom proven hanging from my betty-boop rearview mirror ornament. tom got to go everywhere with us! so we finally made it to the woodlands and found an HEB and bought a ton of hotdogs for ALL the people that were supposed to show up at the picnic. well, little did we know that we would only have nine and NONE of the houston people showed up except for derrick and mindi and amber! even rowdy showed up after getting 1 hour of sleep and driving like a madman! well, you guys missed out because we had fun anyway! woody was a little upset though because we kept singing "i'll never trust my pink fleshy heart to a plywood cow..." so we were sitting on the bench overlooking lake woodlands and then this angelic voice started coming out over the water. it was hands! and it was live. the pavilion was on the other side of the lake and we got to hear some of the soundcheck. she even sang, "i can see cleary now, the rain has gone..." we checked into our hotel room and watched the girls win the world soccer championship and then headed to the venue. when we got there we couldn't find the foodbank people, so we just stood by the barrels for a while and put our cans in and hoped that more would come. BRING CANNED FOOD TO YOUR JEWEL CONCERTS :-) dennis went to go check out his seats and he didn't like them so somehow he got some really good seats for him and amy about 15 min before steve walked on stage. my roommate didn't show up so amias sat in her seat beside me on the fifth row in the pit. yes. i was the one with the angel wings on dancing like a crazy girl. ****** so right as steve came on stage, the sky fell down. in torrents. it was raining so hard the mist was reaching us even in the fifth row covered section. and steve never fails to amaze me. he changed the words to the chair song to fit the pouring rain. then he did his little wine stunt and brought up this lady who was at least 25 and told her to kiss this cute old bearded security guard during the chorus. he had this little table on stage with a cheap table cloth, a mangled barbie with her head on backwards, two glasses, a bottle of wine, and a mini television that was playing austin powers. he played killkenny and out burst this beaming girl jumping around in black converse sneakers, soaking wet. it took everyone a second to realize it was jewel. she sang the chorus with him with that same excited voice she used when she sang with her dad on hard rock live. she looked so happy! and she looked comfortable in her skin. without the glam image she has in her shows (which i also happen to like). during the intermission we met heather and her friend and found tessa and joe hiding from everyone up in the corner of the covered section. amias snuck his ticket stub up to dennis so he and amy could get down into the pit. and then suddenly the lights went dark and jewel was already coming on the stage. when she first came on stage she didn't look as good as the previous night because one, she looks better in red than bluish grey, and two, she was still all wet, and three, she had on this obnoxious maroon lipstick. the crazy thing is, she looked better and better as the show went on and she grew comfortable in her skin and makeup and outfit. she kept pulling her little wrap around mini skit up and revealing the underlayer. it was very sexy. the show started out exactly the same as the dallas show with nya, deep water, winter song, hands, .....she told the endless pot story, steve doesn't smoke pot :-).....steve is catholic and wants to be rebellious so he took a brick of pot and she said, "steve, what are you fucking doing?" gave it to the cook, who must have been rosarita herself, pics with ak-47s etc. she sang sibtw REALLY slow. i think she wanted everyone to actually understand the words, but it is more digestable when it is flowing like usually does. and of course the goldilocks verse wasn't there. then she started playing her country song and i freaked out because i thought it was Summerhome in your Arms, which i love, but she played Happy Endings whihc i had never heard before and i really really really liked it. now i forgot to mention that in dallas the night before when amias and dennis and amy and i were at the front, amias threw his blue gilligan hat up on stage and steve grinned and picked it up and put it on! so about half way threw love me just leave me alone in houston (w/ brother atz on bluesharp), steve noticed my wings and made some flapping arms at me and then i pointed at amias' SECOND hat and steve smiled really big with recognition, and later in WWSYS he motioned for him to throw it, so he did and steve now had 2 hats from amias! wwsys was so awesome! i really like when she starts singing "when the kitty wants milk she goes meow meow meow!" she really looked like she was having fun, and she really gets into it. she seems to say, well, they want me to be sexy and i want to be sexy so damn it, here, they'll like it if i shake my hips and make sexy noises. some guy in row four was sreaming "i love you jewel" and she made fun of him and said it was like free willy and he screamed out, "i love free willy" and she laughed and said, awww, what a sensitive man who loves free willy... for the encore she did a lovely version of a of fear and separated each note on the uh uh oh oh oh oh part and the audience went nuts! for the yodelling she just sang the chorus of chime bells. they were obviously in a big hurry to get out of there because they were driving to louisiana that night. still she yodelled really really fast! in dallas she just sang it instead of belting it out like that! now i really wanted one of the little organic cotton tank tops that had jewel's symbol embroidered on it, but it was twenty five dollars. i was broke before i even left on this exhibition. so i was sad, but what can a girl do? well, rowdy came up to me and handed me this little folded up shirt and said he had *found* it somewhere.....uh huhhh. sure! needless to say i was completely overjoyed. rowdy, you are so sweet! after the show we went to denny's and took our picture of tom in with us. tien and his brother went with us. these guys justed oozed of coolness and it is too bad they couldn't make it to the concert. tien it was really nice to finally meet you since i have seen your name on the list for years! tien, his brother, amy, dennis, amias, rowdy, amber, mindi, and i went back to the hotel where dennis taught them to rope while i played the guitar. i played youre in cleveland and most of the people didn't know it, and i got really sad because it is one of my top 5 favorite songs and i didn't think she would ever play it again. little did i know!!!! we had a great time and after everyone left dennis and i took some crazy pictures..... finally we went to sleep because we had to get up and go to LOUISIANA. more to come....... luna ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 16:31:13 -0600 (MDT) From: Laurel Crump Subject: * New EDA Hi Everybody! I just joined the list and I thought I would introduce myself before I lurk around for a while. I live in Boulder, Colorado and I am 19 years old. I attend the University of Colorado because I don't know what else I want to do! I first saw Jewel at the Fox theatre in 1995, it was SUCH an intimate concert..like, less than 50 people..I don't think POY was even out yet. I was SO impressed with the show that as soon as the album came out I went to the local street mall and begged people for quarters, saying I had to take the bus home, so that I could buy the CD. (I actually have a funny story about this concert, and me being an idiot if anyone wants to hear) I think one reason Jewel inspires me so much is because I feel as though I could do it, too, ya know? (I mean...with lots of practice etc!!) But of course I feel that Jewel has something extremely special to offer people that listen to her...and of course she has an amaaaaazing gift. I also saw her at Red Rocks Amphitheatre last Tuesday. WHAT an amazing difference from the last concert!! Her voice is SO much more developed, she is SO much more confident..not to mention the band backup AND the electric guitar! This was such a good concert on Jewels part, but the crowd was SO annoying! I will write another email because I want people to give me feed back on this... THanks for taking the time to read this! I will most likely tell more about myself as time goes by. Also, in case you are new and do not realize, the list is moderated, which means all posts are held in my mailbox until I can log on, screen them and then "deliver the mail". I am requesting a "list slowdown" because I will be heading out of town Friday morning through Sunday evening for the Bearsville 99 EDA Reunion and of course the HGH Workshop with various members of the Jewel management team and about 50 other list members :-) By the way, please come if you live nearby and can scoot up to the Woodstock area. A good number of Jewel's management team will be there (mother/manager Lenedra, brother Shane, General Manager and more), so this is a rare opportunity to meet them and many fellow list members. The HGH Workshop starts at 11:00am at the Bearsville Theatre, which is about one mile west of downtown Woodstock. Weh nheading west, it is on the left side of Route 212 (Tinker Street) and if you go over a small bridge in Bearsville, you went about 100 feet too far. It is a red barn kind-of building, nestled behind three eateries on the complex. Anyway, I will be taking my notebook computer with me so I will not have to shut down the list as I had to during Bearsville events the previous years, but none the less my access time will be limited for obvious reasons. So, while I WILL be periodically delivering list email over the weekend, I would like to request that beginning Friday morning at about 9:00am ET or so, if you have a post that can wait until Sunday, please do wait. (i.e. Angelfood requests and/or basic Jewel/list questions). Of course if you have news to post, a review of a concert or a post gloating of clay-Jewel's upcoming pummeling of clay-Alanis on MTV tonight etc, please go ahead and post. :-) Mike :-) * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * Many basic/common Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) * * If you can't find the answer on the page have any list related * questions, please feel free to email me at ducksoup@spectra.net * or you can IM me on either of the AOL names below: * DuckOfPrey or WhyADuck55 and/on AOL or AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 13:28:03 PDT From: "Richard Enlow" Subject: * Questions for Jewel neded I don't know if you EDA's know about this site http://netmusic.com/woodstock.html but this guy is going to interview Jewel as well as other artists at Woodstock and he wants your questions. Every Jewel concert in US is having a foodbank setup inside the concert arenas. I was thinking that all EDA's going to the July 24th show at Jonesbeach NY could all meet at where they are collecting the canned goods. It would help also if we could all try to either wear our EDA T-shirts or wear a blue shirt. This way we could all meet each other and maybe do something after the show. Dont 4-get to bring canned goods/non-perishable food items also :-) If anyone wants to do this you could e-mail me! See ya :-) - - Kelli *the city angel* ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #408 ***************************
